Barkleys honored on 50th anniversary

Mr. & Mrs. Bill H. Barkley, Sr. celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary with a family party Saturday, June 26. They were married on June 26, 1943, in Wichita, Kan., in the First Methodist Church by the late Dr. Thomas A. Williams. Bill was attending the University of Wichita in the College Training Detachment of the Army Air Corps during World War II. Claudine was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Claude Fergusson of Hamilton and worked in the courthouse in the office of County Judge S. R. Allen, Sr.
After serving three years in the Air Corps, one year of which was on Guam, Bill returned and they attended the University of Texas at Austin. Bill graduated in January, 1949, with a BBA. He graduated from the SMU Graduate School of Banking in 1968. After spending 37 years in banking in the Midland National Bank and the Hamilton National Bank, Bill retired last year as Chairman of the Board.
Saturday evening the family enjoyed a picnic on the lawn of the Barkley home and a swimming party at the city pool. Sunday they attended church services at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Georgia Adamson preaching. They then dined at the Pecan Creek Inn Restaurant.
Those present were: Ima Fergusson; Dr. Hal and Vicki Barkley, Brent and William; Dr. Robert Barkley, Daniel and Rachel; Dr. Sara Stone;  Todd Barkley; Ima Jean and Wallace Dunson, Jr.; Dan and Anna Dunson, Amy and Aaron; Thomas and Judy Dunson, Joel and Tyler; Daniel and Babette Dunham.
