FAIRY GIRLS BASKETBALL TEAM

Miss Marrianna Christenson, coach of high school girls, organized the first girl basketball teams that Fairy has had in several years. Miss Christenson went into this work whole heartedly as if her work meant everything her teams would have won every game they went into. Rain or shine, Coach Christenson could be seen on the court working out wither girls. In 1934 and 1935 the following girls played on the team: Louise Seago, Margaret Blacklock, Thelma Jameson, Vance Blakley, Juanita Parks, Lucille Herricks, and Ruby Davis. The first year was not successful from the standpoint of winning games but the girls showed good spirit and good sportsmanship in every game they played, This alone means a great deal in the lives of high school students and in sports of all kind.

The team of 1935-36 was more successful. The team won second place in Hamilton County Interscholastic League. The following girls played on the team –Norma Lee Sellers, Juanita Parks, Lucille Herricks, Vance Barkley, Margie Lee Hutton, Ethridge Williamson, Mildred Shepherd, Jossie Mae Parks, Donnie Wolfe, Lola Mae Edington, and Ruby Davis.

We are sorry we will lose Vance Blakley and Ruby Davis—both of those girls were good guards and did some commendable work this year. Ten royal blue warm-up suits were bought for girls this year. They were very pretty and were appreciated by the team.

The girls were very faithful in their work and are coming out stronger than ever next year.

COACH MARRIANNE CHRISTENSON

Coach Christenson is a splendid director of girl athletics. She is one of the hardest workers that can be found anywhere. The girls worked with her and appreciated her helping them. Any school is fortunate in having Miss Christenson as a member of their faculty.
