THIS IS THE HOUSE THAT JOHN BUILT

ACROSS THE FENCE

From: The Hamilton Herald-News

This is the house that Jack—or John—built.

John Jones and his wife Michele have wanted a home built just to their liking, so they have practically accomplished this on their lot on East Boynton, just southwest of the Park Heights Church of Christ.  The lot is wider than most lots and runs back about 200 feet to include many large tees and a draw which will be like a park when they get their landscaping done.  A lot of land filling and leveling has already been done, but they plan to do more before getting St. Augustine grass over all of it.  They have sown rye grass on much of the yard to hold down washing this winter,

John has done much of the work himself, such as the framing, roofing, plumbing, wiring, and painting.  All of this makes it much easier and appreciative for them to say, “Our Home.”

He got his kinsman, Ervin Jones, to build the cabinets, and they are beautiful and spacious.  They are in oak finish, which matches the narrow oak patterned Formica cabinet sops.  Dainty little café doors lead into the formal dining room.

On the other side of the kitchen is a long bar, which is also a low partition for one side of the sunken living room.  This makes it possible for them to watch he TV in the living room as they are eating.  There are enclosed shelves all along under the bar on the kitchen side.

The Jones took advantage of the sloping lot to put a large sunken living room, which is three steps down, across the back of the house.  With its high cathedral ceiling and partial opening across one wall, one gets the feeling of spaciousness.  This is more emphasized by double sliding glass doors that look out across the park landscape along the draw.  Flanking these windows on each side are panels of V-grooved sliding that are mounted in a sloping herringbone pattern.  This same pattern is carried out in other parts of the house.

The house has three nice-sized bedrooms and two complete baths.  All the rooms, except the kitchen, are covered with nice beige and tan mottled carpeting, which adds much to the appearance.  They have installed ceiling fans in many of the rooms, so comfort, beauty and usefulness are certainly evident in the planning and building.

If John can find enough time from the J & J Hardware and Welding business to do a little more work on the house, they will soon be able to move into a house any of us would be proud to call “Home.”

Here we are with nearly a week of October behind us and it is still dry.  If my record of rainfall is correct, the lst rain of any amount was on July 13th, so that means that we have gone about 85 days without any of that good wet stuff.

Think of this contrast.  I was talking with Lester Roberts Sunday night and he said that the church where he attends in Creede, Colorado, was meeting that night to pray for dry weather.  It has been so wet all summer people are far behind with their work.  Lester and … …
