HORTON PARK
Across the Fence
By Arvord Abernethy
I don’t know who we should thank, other than the City, for the fine appearance that Horton Park now has. I am sure that we had better give some credit to the Good Lord for the good rains we have received recently.
The City has had Doc Nelms to mow the grass twice, and someone has given the swings, seesaws and rides a bright coat of blue, yellow and green paint.
It is regrettable that many of the live oak trees have died in the park. We need to be setting out some other trees to replace them. Even an awning over the exposed picnic tables would be a big help.
It is a shame that the water in the flood prevention lake in the southwest part of town isn’t close enough so the trees and grass could be watered.
The Kiwanis Field there in the park has also had some sprucing up lately and is all ready for the little League teams to hear the call, “Play Ball”.
