ROGER AND MARY
GREENLEE
Across
the Fence

Many
times when a couple retires and moves to
Hamilton
to make their home, it is because they have lived in the
Central Texas
area before. Such is not exactly the case with Roger and Mary Greenlee
who recently bought their home and moved to 1124 E. Ross here in
Hamilton
. Mary was born at Eastland, but the family moved to Levelland when she
was about four years old. However, she does have a sister living near
Dublin
and they have visited her often.
In
their trips down this way, they had circled around through other towns,
so when it came time to retire, they thought of
Hamilton
as being the place they would like to call home. They stated that the
trees in
Hamilton
were a strong drawing point, and that they were careful to pick a place
that had large trees around it.
Roger
was born at O’Donnell, but his family moved to
Lubbock
when he was just a lad, so it is considered as being his home town.
For
the last 29 years, Roger has been the distribution manager for the
Pioneer Natural Gas Co. at
Odessa, and that is where they made their home. Their son, Jerry, is a
contractor in
Odessa, and their other son, Don, is an accountant for Exxon in
Midland. Each of their sons has two children, so you can guess where the
Greenlees will be going often.
Roger
hopes to catch up on some fishing that he has got behind over the years,
as well as doing some work on their home and yard. Mary has a kiln and
likes to do ceramic work along with her macramé work. They have a
travel trailer, so plan to do some leisurely traveling and seeing the
sights of
America
. They have been real busy since moving here about six weeks ago working
around the house and putting up fruits and vegetables that her sister at
Dublin
has given them.
They
have found themselves a church home at the Park Heights Church of
Christ.
I
had a long enjoyable visit with them as they knew some of my relatives
out Levelland way and Roger knew a lot about
Lubbock
when it was much smaller than it is now. I could beat him on some of the
tales on
Lubbock
as my days at
Texas
Tech were a little ahead of his moving to
Lubbock
.
