I am searching for the ancestors of Jesse Purvis (1820-1898) of Warren Co.
He was an officer in the Civil War and is buried in the Purvis Cemetery in
Warren County.
Could his parents be from Jefferson Co.? A Jesse Purvis is listed in the
census 1820 in Jefferson Co. and William Purvis, census 1820,
Jefferson Co. Family history states that Jesse Purvis (1820-1898)
bought his land from a William Purvis. Could his father be Jesse or William

Seaching for infomation on ancestors of James Merrel Waggoner, Sr.
(1805-1883) and his brother Henry Holcomb Waggoner (1799-1871) born possibly
in Warren Co. Ga. We have reason to believe there is a missing link between
these brothers and George Waggoner,Sr. (1720-1811) md. Elizabeth, 8
children. Family records show a George Waggoner as the father of James and
Henry (2 of 8 children). They migrated to Mississippi in 1845 and lived
there until their deaths. Also reported is that their father George (died
1811) and his brother James' names are on a plaque at Warrenton Court House,
both having served in the Revolution 1776-1783. Does anyone have
information on the George who served in Revolution? George Sr. who died
1811 would possibly not have served at about 55-60 years of age. The George
who served was reported to have died in 1811 which coincides with the
reported death date of George, Sr. Does anyone have information on the
George Waggoner named on the plaque?

Carrilynn Corbin June 2000
I have a copy of the marriage license for John Rogers and Mary E. Gibson,
married in Warren County, GA on October 24, 1836. I would be happy to mail
it to anyone interested in this family. This family is not one of mine.
I
came across the license when I copied the license next to it, which was one of
my ancestors. In order to copy my ancestors' license, this one had to be
copied, too. I just hate to throw it away when it may be of use to
someone.

Vincent Lenard Brooks, b. 5/3/1834 GA
Missouri M. Brooks, b. 10/ 22/1836 GA
It is my belief that Joseph C. Brooks is a brother of Jacob Rutledge Brooks, Josiah Brooks, Seaborn R. Brooks.
I believe this because I know that Jacob's parents are James Brooks and Falby Cobb.
Joseph C. named a daughter Falby Cobb Brooks
Seaborn named a daughter Falby Viola Brooks and a son James, Josiah, and another one Joseph.
I believe Josiah is a brother of Joseph C. Brooks.
I have also been told that Jacob Rutledge Brooks is a cousin of a John Brooks, SR married to Susan Narsin.
The John Brooks, Sr. line is a Brooks line that goes back into England. I just cannot tie them together.
The Gilmore name seems to be more that a coincidence. Seaborn R. Brooks' second wife is Martha P. Gilmore.
Two children from your Joseph's family marry Gilmores. Jacob Rutledge Broooks' daughter Miriam M. Brooks married a William
Gilmore. I believe they are the children of Martha's first marriage. She also married another time to a James P. Danford.
------
He is found in the 1850 census for Pike County, Alabama... with property at twp 11, Range 23 in Pike County, AL. He is listed as a farmer. He is also listed in the 1860 census for Pike County, and was in the CSA. He died May

COX DANIEL DISMUKE
Submitter: Janet McElroy ([email protected])
Date: 09 Aug 2000
I am trying to prove the parents of William Dismuke. Some researchers
think that William was a son of Edmund and Bethena (Cox) Dismuke. William
married Susan Daniel, daughter of Frederick Daniel, in 1820 in Jones
County. He and Susan eventually moved to Coffee County, AL, where he died
in 1880. Edmumd Dismuke died in 1829 in Jones County. Bethena Cox
Dismuke died in Harris County where her estate papers were filed in 1844.
Where were Edmund and Bethena married? Was William their son? Where
are documents located that would prove this relationship? The indexes to
records compiled by Daniel Nathan Crumpton place Edmund Dismuke in Warren
County. For example, Edmund was involved with the administration of
the estate of Lion [Sion?] Wheeler in 1798, along with Ichabod Cox and Lovinah
Wheeler. Edmund witnessed a property transaction in 1802; in 1809, he sold
property to Nelson Gunn.
Frederick Daniel, father of Susan Daniel Dismuke, was a Virginian who fought in
the American Revolution from Nash County, NC; his name also appears in the
indexes mentioned above. In 1798, he was listed as an adjoining property
owner and witness for a property transaction. In 1799, he was the
administrator for an estate. In 1803, he sold property. He migrated to
Pike County, where he died in 1840. Thank you for helping with the William
Dismuke questions.

Recently, I found this obituary in "Marriages and Deaths 1763-1820"
for Alexander Smith of Warren Co., Ga. It was in the "Georgia Express"
from Athens, Ga. It states he was shot by Indians on the Natchez Road. It
further defines the location as Wilderness Road between Bear Creek and 20 Miles
Creek. It is dated August 6, 1808. Can anyone tell me where the
"Natchez Road" was located? I am also searching for information on my
gggrandfather, David King, who received two passports "to the Natchez"
One gave his residence as Washington Co.(1806) and the other gave it as
Jefferson Co.(1808) He was accompanied on one trip by John Davis and on the
other by Anguish McMillan and his family.
MIMMS
Reba Landrum ([email protected])
Date: 26 August 2000
The Martin Mimms listed on the Revolutionary War marker in the history
section of the Warren County web page may the same Martin Mims that is our
direct ancestor. Our Martin Mims lived in Warren County. His wife's
name was Martha Miller (?) and they had five children: Betsy, David, Adam,
Ishmael and Rufus. Do you know where the Martin Mimms listed on the war
memorial is buried? Maybe some of the other family members buried around
him will give us a clue as to whether he is our ancestor. I am not sure
because the marker has the last name with two "m's" and our family
record has only one "m" in the last name. If you know how we may
find out any more info about this Martin Mim(m)s, would you please share it.

Anna Shurley Johnson: My grandfather, Perry Jefferson Johnson, son of
Stephen Lewis Johnson, Warren County, married Anna Shurley August 1, 1889.

TX. (Wood County) without Anna. My mother, Ruby Estell Johnson, was born
to Perry J. and his second wife, Helen Cordelia Burke, in 1905 in Wood

I'm looking for info on Sarah HEARNE POOR or POORE, and particularly her
husband (first name unknown) and children. I would like documentation to confirm
that F.T. Poor is the son of Sarah.
There is a Sally Hearn marriage to William Poor in Jasper Co., GA, April 6,
1810. Not sure if this is the same as my Sarah Hearne. Sarah and her husband may
have also lived in Wilkinson, Wilkes, Warren, or Hancock counties in Georga.
Sarah and her parents moved from Georgia to Montgomery County, AL, in 1819. That
part of Montgomery County was later split off to help form Lowndes County.
Believe that Sarah and her son F.T. moved to Mississippi sometime before 1838.
Sarah and F.T. are listed in the 1850 Winston County, Miss., census. In 1866
census, F.T. is in Jasper County. At times, they also may have lived
in Neshoba, Newton, or Jones counties, as branches of my family can be found
there.
Below is the information I have on Sarah and her parents and, if my link is
correct, F.T. Poor.
