Beal, Mary
Dawson, Hattie
Deloach, Martha
Hand, Andrew Jackson "Jack"
Jones, Gertrude and Sam
Stephens, John Solomon

Beal, Mary (unknown)My brick wall is my grandfather's family. The are first found in Upson County in the 1870 census with my great-grandmother, Mary ______ Beall as head of household. Offsprings were, Susan, Samuel, Tucker, Allen, Fletcher, Webster and Lester, all born between 1848 and 1865. They are not listed any earlier, anywhere that I can find. I don't think Susan ever married, I found Samuel's (Truesa Murcheson) family in Macon (and they have encountered the same brick wall), Tucker has evaporated into thin air, Allen married a cousin's widow, Jennie, Fletcher married Annie Gerald, Webster, my grandfather, married Lou Findia Smith of Talbot County and we think Lester died young. The main brick in the wall is my great-grandfather, who was he?

Dawson, Hattie I've been searching for information about Hattie Dawson (my maternal grandmother) who is listed on the 1910 Census for Upson County. I found one record on microfiche which lists her name along with her children, sister, and niece. I have been unable to locate any additional records for her. I figure her birth year would be but 1881 or 1882. Would truly appreciate any additional information. Thanks you.

Deloach, Martha My brick wall is my g grandmother, Martha Deloach, and her line. She married George Whitfield Wright and they had my grandfather, Charlie Cleveland Wright. I sent off for Martha's death certificate. She was born in Ga. abt. 1859 and died on 12/24/29. Her parents were Jim Thompson and Mary Deloach. This would lead me to believe she was born out of wedlock. I can't find anything on either parent. I would love to connect Martha and Mary Deloach with the other Deloachs in Upson Co. I know there were a good many others, just haven't been able to link mine with them. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated! Thanks,

Hand, Andrew Jackson My BRICK WALL is my great-grandfather's parents. Andrew Jackson Hand was born April 18, 1834 (taken from gravestone). In later years he was known as "Jack" Hand.
A Descriptive List and Account of Pay for Andrew Jackson Hand Co. G 34th Infantry, Alabama Volunteers lists his place of birth as UPSON COUNTY, GA. He married Margaret A. E. Ruffin in Upson County October 11, 1855. Sometime after their marriage they moved to Tallapoosa County, Alabama (1860 Census). A brother, Allen W. was born in Columbia Co. Ga. about 1825 according to Descriptive List and Account of Pay Co. G. 34th Infantry, Alabama Volunteers.

Other children were Stephen (1850 Upson County Census) John, Sarah, and possibly Thomas B. Stephen and Thomas B. can be found in Upson County Marriages Volume A 1825-1850 Along with Allen W.

I believe some or possibly all the Hand children in the 1845 Poor School Records are my ggrandfather and his siblings. The age of Jackson Hand is right to have been the person I am researching.

I would appreciate any help anyone can provide.

Jones, Gertrude and Sam are listed in the 1930 Census of Upson County. Can anyone tell me how long Sam lived and where Sam worked while living in Upson County.
Where did Sam go if and when he left Upson County?
I am told they had a baby boy named Andrew Belson ( AB) Jones which was the oldest of their children yet only the two younger girls are mentioned on the 1930 Census. What happen to baby Andrew Belson ( AB) Jones?
Thank you so much.

Stephens, John Solomon I am looking for information on the parents of (John) Solomon Stephens who married Sarah Sally Barrow in Putman county in 1808. I posted this message on the list in 1998 but at that time thought Sally's maiden name was Barron, have since found out it was Barrow. They were shown on the 1830 Upson Co census as Solomon aged 50-60 and Sally age 30-40, with 7 sons and one daughter. About 1843 they moved to Russell and Randolph County Alabama. I am descended from their son Josiah Fishback Nelson Stephens who married Winnifred Barron, dau of Hiram Barron and Pheraby Pool. The Barrons and Pools were also in Upson Co. and moved to Randolph Co Alabama.

In 1829 Solomon Stephens deeded land in Upson County to the trustees of the Methodist Society. This land was apparently used for the Upson Camp Ground, in 1842, William Stephens deeded two more acres (for 35.00), this info from "History of Upson County, p. 372. I would like to know who the parents of Solomon Stephens were, I know there were many Stephens in Upson Co. according to the afore mentioned book, most, if not all were decendants of George Stephens, but I did not find any mention that Solomon was related to George. According to the census reports, Soloman was born about 1775 in North Carolina. Also does anyone have any info as to where George Stephens came from? Thanks
