 HOW TO FIGURE A BIRTHDATE

 REMEMBER THIS NUMBER: 8870

How do you figure the birthdate?

Suppose the person died May 6, 1889, at the age of
 71 years, 7 months, 9 days.

 1. Write the year, month, day as: 18890506
 2. Subtract the age at death: 710709
3. This gives the figure: 18179797
4. Now subtract 8870:
 5. The result is: 18170927
 Year 1817, 9th month (Sept), 27th day or 27 Sept, 1817

Pauper Burials

Upon speaking to PASLEY Fletcher Funeral home, the pauper list burials were explained to me. When someone died who had no kin or money the community took it upon themselves to help bury these people. First of all different churches were approached and asked for help. No Church was hit up 2 or three times in a row. There are no Cemeteries considered Pauper cemeteries in Upson Co.
The funeral home would choose a moderate casket available for the burial. Most of the time they were never paid for this & considered it a community service. They were given a funeral home marker & no tombstone. Most of those are now gone.
Many churches donated lots for burial. There are about 6 known in Southview Cemetery that are Pauper & are side by side. Basically they were buried anywhere that they could find a spot avail! able. They were also usually buried with the clothes they had on which were cleaned first.
In some cases the Churches and Funeral Home had to bury people who were just passing through town & died and never found out who they were or any relatives.
This information was great help and I want to Thank PASLEY Fletcher Funeral Home for taking the time to explain this to me. Lisa Graham
