ATKINS, Joel C. Seeking the parents of Joel C. Atkins, born July 3, 1805, in Virginia. Joel married Mary Austin sometime before 1825. Mary was born in Greenville, South Carolina. It is believed that they might have been married in DeKalb County, Georgia, in that Mary's parents lived there from the time they migrated to Georgia until their death. In 1842 the second DeKalb County courthouse burned, destroying all records except the Inferior Court Minutes (1823-1859) and one book of the Superior Court Minutes (1836-1843). The courthouse burned again in 1898. These fires most probably resulted in the lost of Joel and Mary's marriage license. Joel died August 11, 1876, in Fish Creek, Polk County, Georgia.

BATCHELOR, Beulah Mae My Georgia brick wall is my grandmother; Beulah Mae BATCHELOR (more like wall of steel) She was born April 3, 1882 somewhere in Georgia. She married in Florida to my grandfather, John William Jefferson THOMAS, born in November 1862. John was born in Florida, they married August 25, 1909. They had 6 children all born in Florida (I have names and more info on them). Beulah Mae was known as "Miss Mary" in her home of Leesburg, Florida. The family lived off South Street in Leesburg. They had family ties to the "WARD'S" from the area called Ward settlement, Lake County, Florida. Sumter County at the time they all moved there. It is also said that many of my Thomas ancestors lived at Ward Settlement as well. Logical since John William Jefferson Thomas' mother was born a Ward, Nancy Ann Loucinda Ward. I am looking for anything on my grandmother!! I am not sure of the spelling of her name, as many researchers all have it spelled differently, It has also been seen as "Bulah Mary" and Mary Bulah.I have a picture taken of her when she married John William Jefferson THOMAS but this is the only photo I have of her. She died in 1955 and is buried at the Lone Oak Cemetery in Leesburg, Florida. If anyone has any information or clues to where I can look? Please send it my way. I am looking for her parents, siblings, cousins, anything I can lay my hands on at his point!! I have absolutely nothing except what I have stated above. I am also out of ideas, and places to look. So if any of you have ideas for me I am open to all. Thanks a million!!

BENNETT, Aaron I am searching for the marriage place and date of my GGGrandfather. He was Aaron Bennett a landholder in Emanuel/Bulloch County (it was Effingham/Burke county before that, and of course St Philips/St Matthew Parishes before that) I have him on record as a juror, land owner, and the census records in 1814-1826 Emanuel/Bulloch County Georgia. I do suspect that he may have been in Columbia County though. I do not have his wife's name, but his first born child, John Bennett was born in Emanuel County in 1800, followed by Benjamin L Bennett in 1802, and 5 sisters, so I suspect he may have married about 1798 or so. Any help you could provide will be most appreciated.

BISHOP, William L.
Birth: 31 Jan 1823, GA
Death: 4 Feb 1905, Cobb Co., GA
Married to Kiziah Power ca. 1844.
Lived and operated a grist mill in East Cobb County... Home place was in what is now Indian Hills Subdivision between Lower Roswell and Roswell Roads, East of Old Canton Road. At the time of his death in 1905 he owned 1163-1/3 acres and had 12 living children. I suspect, but cannot proove that his siblings are Hezekiah Bishop of Fulton and Cobb Counties... Joseph Asbury Bishop of Cobb, Shelby County, IL (After the War) and Collin County, TX. and Benjamin F. Bishop of Cobb County, GA... I believe their Mother to be Boxa Bishop, enumerated in the 722 District of DeKalb County, GA in 1840 which becomes the "Buckhead" District of Fulton County in 1853 when Fulton County is formed. I believe that Boxa, if living in 1850, was living with William and Keziah Bishop at their home in East Cobb County but the Census Enumerator "missed" their entry... W.L. Bishop appears on the Cobb County Tax Rolls for 1848, 1849 and 1851 at the Section and Land Lot of his farm there in "Indian Hills".... Any help is greatly appreciated

BONNER, Joseph moved from Prince George Co. VA to Wilkes County, GA and purchased 250 acres bordering the Ogeechee River on the East which became Warren Co. GA in 1793. Land sold about 1803 and he moved to Jones Co. GA near Haddock.
Joseph Bonner married in 1780-81 to Susannah Heath. He was born abt 1750-60 Sussex County, Virginia died: Jan 6, 1825 Jones County, GA.
Since Joseph Bonner owned land on Commissioners Creek (adjoining son Hubbard Bonner), he could not have qualified as indigent so must have been an invalid.
Records have not been located to show weather he paid the required $18.00 grant fee for each lot, sold his land warrants, or let the land go by default. The latter was not an uncommon practice in Georgia -- the only state to dispense lands by lotteries. Counties were cut up into lots almost sight unseen with the result that many were unfit for cultivation; others less desirable than the property already owned by the drawer. Joseph Bonner left no will and his property was probably divided among his adult heirs by mutual agreement. (His wife died Jan 12, 1822 and there were no minor heirs so an estate administration was not mandatory.)
I am a direct descendant of Joseph Bonner and have no record of his burial place. I have visited the cemetery at Standing Rock, Chambers Co. AL several times. Also the Thomas Harris Cemetery (Old Dewberry Place) at the site of the original "Bonner Church" in Hickory Flat, AL. I have not seen Joseph and Susannah's graves. I have always thought they were buried in Jones Co. GA.
If you have any clue as to where their graves may be, please contact me. I am also very interested in any additional information you may have about this Bonner line.

Carroll, Jesse Willingham. I am trying to locate the county in Georgia where my gggrandparents, Jesse Willingham Carroll and Esther Vineyard (Hettie), were married. The date is October 6, 1831 according to family bible. Three counties show ties to my clan perhaps -- Carroll County in 1840, Walton and Madison County at earlier date. I have tried the county clerk at Madison County, various books and Ancestry.com. Do you have other suggestions? I know that both were born in Georgia and migrated to Alabama by 1850 census. They are in Carroll County in 1840 census. Thanks,

Carroll, Owen I'm looking for any information on Owen Carroll. He participated in the 1827 Land Lottery (known as the "Fifth" Land Lottery). He drew land in Lee County, land lot 126, District 13 and was granted this land on 11/5/1836. Beside his name is RS which means he fought in the rev war in Georgia. After 1790 he apparently moved to Bladen County NC. Where My GGGGgrandfather was born. Does anybody have this man and his wife Mary buried in their cemetery? I'm looking for any information at all.

Carpenter, Joanna (Griffin) Born 1856 in AL according to Census & Death Certificates. Two of her children's death Certs claim her maiden name to be Griffin but this is unproven. Her death cert does not say either. She died in 1930 in Santa Rosa, FL. She married Cary Carpenter about 1875 in Covinton Co. AL. & they divorced. Cary then married a Carter & had several more children. Searching for any info on Joanna at all. Death Cert is almost impossible to read but contains no clues. Cemetery is possibly Hickory Hammock in Santa Rosa but cannot locate grave. Covington Co. Courthouse burned in 1900 along with possibly Cary & Joanna's marriage & divorce papers. Thanks,

Carpenter, Mary "Dollie" 1st child of Jesse Monroe & Emma Barnes Carpenter. Born 1900 in Crenshaw Al. She is last found on the 1920 Census in Escambia Co. AL. with her parents & single, 20 years of age. Before 1924 the family moves to Autauga, AL. where in 1924 Jesse Carpenter born in 1875 in Covington Co. AL. dies while working on the Farm for the Tatum's. It is said that it is thought Mary stayed behind when the rest of the family moved to Fulton Co. GA. Emma, her mother remarried abt. 1928 to a Charles Cheek & Emma died in 1936 in Fulton. No one in the entire family knows what happened to Mary. I was able to find Martha.
It is said from everyone that Mary "Dollie" stayed behind in AL. yet I have not been able to locate a marriage for her in a County in AL. yet.

Clayton, Frances FRANCES CLAYTON is named in an 1896 publication in Limestone Co., Texas as the wife of William ROBERTS, mother of Charles Roberts born in Walker Co., Georgia.

Frances Clayton is believed to have been born ca 1790-1800, possibly in GA or one of the Carolinas. She is believed to be enumerated on the 1830 Monroe Co., GA census in the household of William Roberts, with ten children. Their only son (1 of 10) known by this branch of the family, Charles Roberts, was born 1813 Walker Co. GA, migrated to Texas with his father's brother ca 1833, married Emily Stanley on Feb 4, 1842 in Washington Co. TX, and finally settled and died in Limestone Co., Texas.

Would truly love to find the family - parents/siblings - of FRANCES CLAYTON. She is believed to have married William ROBERTS possibly in Richmond Co., GA and perhaps lived for a time in Columbia Co. GA.

Cochran, Neal b. about 1859, was my ggrandfather and Jacob:b. 1847, Alexander: b. 1856, Guss; b.1866 are his brothers. Grandfather Neal was a slave and I think I've found Uncle Alex on a Slave Bill of Sale. Their mother's name was Susan. The information on the Slave Bill of Sale comes from the Cunningham Collection. I have not been able to find the Cunningham Collection. My reserch indicates that there was a Cunningham Plantation around August, Richmond County. However, the Slave Bill of Sale gives Putnam and Muscogee Cunties. Some of them had moved to Alabama by 1880 and I found all of them in Alabama in the 1900 census. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cone, Jesse b. in NC 1771-1774 but was in Georgia by 1806 when his oldest child was born. He and his wife, Sarah Bailey, are said to have married in Georgia. There are a number of Cones throughout the state, but Jesse doesn't appear to be one of them. He left no census records, land records, marriage, birth or church records that we can find. He and his family migrated to Alabama between 1816 and 1818 and from there on we have a complete record of them. Would appreciate any and all help, and wish all of you good luck on breaking down your brick walls.

Darnell, William Wade First appears in the 1870 census, in Fayette County. He maintains his birth state as Georgia in each census. His older sister, Sarah, married William G Fleming, and William "Bill" married Virginia Victoria Fleming, sister of William G.
Bill and Virginia Darnell had 3 children. Anna Bell, Grover Cleveland, and Elfha Brittemar. Virginia died sometime before 1891, when Bill married Sarah Almeda Lyle. He lived in the Kenwood/Corinth area of Fayette County, near the Clayton County line, and is buried in Corinth Baptist church cemetery, with Sarah "Sallie" Lyle Darnell.
