Brandi Fields Jessie Fields is an ancestor of mine through my father's side of the family. I read the articles from the Blairsville Herald (1902 edition) on the " Our Southern AKINS" home page. I am hoping that someone can give me more info on Jessie's parents so that I can trace the family back even further. I know that they are from Ireland and that Jessie was born in Pendleton District (now Pickens, Co) SC on June 12, 1812. Anything on the family would be helpful. Thanks!

Jamie Crump Brandi, Have you talked with a lady named Patty Davis Everett? She lives in Blairsville and is a Fields descendant. I worked with her on the Union County Heritage book and she seemed to have a lot of info on the Fields line. I don't have contact info for her at the ready, but my folks are still in Blairsville so I could get it for you if you haven't talked with her already.

Carl Steele Thomas B CANTRELL listed on the 1850 census, household# 1059. According to family records, Thomas had a son Thomas Bryant Cantrell born Jan 14, 1846. However, this son is not shown on the census record. Also, I notice in marriage records Thomas married an 18 yr old Eliza L CHASTAIN Oct 24 1849. Was the elder Thomas md before? Can anyone explain this? Who is the mother of the younger Thomas Bryant Cantrell? My family history indicates he was born in NC.
Terrilea1234 I am trying to locate information on the family of James Herrin BARNES, who was in Union Co. census in 1850. Any information would be appreciated.
Woolfpac Trying to solve a puzzle, such as (1) was Eliz. THOMPSON b abt 1827 NC d/o James LONG and ULY CANSLER LONG ? she is living with the couple in 1850 Unoin Co. GA (2) where was Eliz. THOMPSON in 1860? (3) where is Eliz.'s son James M. in 1870 ? (She was in Fannin Co. (4) Samuel STANLEY md. 1865 Caroline THOMPSON, was she the woman in 1870 Fannin Co. called "Lydda" in HH Samuel STANLEY? (5) Eliz. LONG THOMPSON, did she remarry John SHELTON? and if so where is she in 1880? (6) James M. THOMPSON was said to marry either Sarah LEATHERWOOD or Sarah SHELTON, I did find a James THOMPSON marraige in one of the surround. counties to Sarah SHELTON, but can not be sure he is the right one, as he was barely out of his teens then (Seems young to be married). Also, found Jimmie THOMPSON md. 1861 Sarah McCAY, also very young if this is him, as he was born @1848. (7) Louada Ann THOMPSON hh in 1870, next to mom, were the children hers? or her mom's? Louada Ann md. 1871 Columbus FORTNER (possible of Polk Co TN) where did they move too? I have alot of unsolved pieces of this puzzle, been working on it for years and believe someone out there knows my family, or some of these people. Please help if you have data.

Tom Stargel. I noticed in the marriage section on the Union County web page that you have a STREGEL, John J. Married on Jan 24 1836 to a Jane Ann LOPER. I was wondering if that was a misprint? My GGGGrandfather John Jones STARGEL (not Stregel) was married to a Jane Ann. My records show her last name as DEFORE and not Loper but I am not sure if Defore is correct. I do not have any parents for her. John J.Stargel lived his life in Lumpkin County GA., a county formed from Union County. I am also looking for the burial site of William Cicero Stargel, son of John Jones and Jane Ann Stargel.

I appreciate any information on any of the descendents of these families.

Debbie Woolf. Can anyone tell me who the James TOMPSON age 25 and Sarah age 17 were in 1860 Union Co. GA census? I have been trying to locate James Thompson age 12 on the census. He md. a Sarah M. SHELTON in 1871. It would be 'far fetched' to think that this couple could be them, they were age 12 and 6 in 1860, but I have reasons to believe she was not living with her parents in 1860 and I know for a fact he was not. His father may have been dead, and his mother was living as HH in Fannin Co. GA. Is there anyone who can help identify this couple? Thank you in advance.
Sherron Eustice. I am the great great granddaughter of Lucinda RICKETTS from Union County Georgia. She married my gggrandfather 1n 1860 in Union County. Lucinda's father and mother were William and Elizabeth Ricketts. From my understanding he fought in the Civil War. If you have any information on any of these people I sure would appreciate if you could let me know. I am also trying to find any photos also. Lucinda married John P (Jackie) EUSTICE and then moved and settled in the Soddy Daisy area of Tenn. Hamilton County. Thank you for your help.
H. W. Palmer. MY GGGRANDFATHER WAS AJ PALMER. I BELIVE HIS FULL NAME WAS ANDREW JACKSON PALMER. I FOUND IN THE 1880 UNION CO. CENSUS THAT HE WAS 65 BORN IN TENN (MAY 1815) AND DIED IN 1896. I ALSO FOUND IN THE 1860 CENSUS AN AJ FARMER; HIS AGE WAS 20 YEARS YOUNGER. HIS WIFE WAS ALSO NAMED SARAH (SANDLIN) AND ALL HIS CHILDREN HAD THE SAME NAME AND WERE ALL 20 YEARS YOUNGER. SO EITHER THE CENSUS PEOPLE MISUNDERSTOOD HIS LAST NAME OR MAYBE THAY CHANGED IT FROM FARMER TO PALMER ? WE HAVE ALWAYS SPELLED OUR NAME PALMER BUT WE PRONOUNCED IT PARMER SOUNDS ALOT LIKE FARMER. MY GGGRANDFATHER AND HIS WIFE ARE BOTH BURIED AT ZION BAPTIST CHURCH IN SUCHES GA. I WOULD SOMEHOW LIKE TO FIND OUT WHEN HE MOVED TO THE SUCHES AREA. ANY INFO WOULD BE APPRECIATED.

I CAN'T LOCATE CLARY LUCINDA (CLARA,CLARISSA,LUCINDA, LUCIE,LUCY) OR ANYTHING ELSE. COULD YOUR JOSEPH BE THE JOSEPH LISTED AS 18? I HAVE STORIES IN MY FAMILY AND HAVE TALKED TO ANOTHER PERSON, WHO CONFIRMED, THAT THERE IS CHEROKEE BLOOD IN THIS LINE. WE SEEM TO ALL AGREE THAT IT WAS FROM JOHNS WIFE. ALL MY PARKS ALL SEEM TO GO BACK CHEROKEE COUNTRY.

Benjamin Parks, Sr. born March 25, 1746 left this Birth Record of family. The pages are titled "Family Register". The Bible belongs to Lois Humiston of Mancos, Colorado. Her niece, Charlotte Baxstrom, also of Mancos, CO, indicated that the Bible was passed down from Benjamin to Flemmon, to Joseph E. Parks, to Emma (daughter of Joseph E.), and finally to Lois (daughter of Emma). She indicated that it was very old and there were pages missing. She could find no date. However, from a fly leaf of the New Testament section of the Bible, there was enough information that with the help of the American Bible Society in New York, they indicated it was printed and published by Henry C. Sleight: New York in 1828. That was 11 years before Benjamin died.

Greg Land. It appears thru some research on my part that the LAND Family migrated from their original settlement area of Virginia in the mid to late 1600's to Haywood County North Carolina and then directly across the NC/Tenn. border to Blount County Tenn. From that point many of the Land Family members came into Union County Georgia and then into Gilmer County and finally settled in today's present Cherokee County Georgia.  Do you have any information regarding any Land people in the Union County area from approx. 1700 to 1858? He was supposed to have been a well known athlete. He was known as a fast runner. He and Caroline are in the 1850 census of Union. And in the 1860 census of Fannin. His children were Sarah, Martha and Peter. He died young and I think Caroline remarried, but don't know to whom.  Thank you.

Bob ChappelCan anyone help me? I am trying to find out if my ancestors are Cherokee Indian. I am trying to follow up on my great grand mother Florence Ellen Dockery who was born in Union County, GA in 1874.   I started off  by contacting Mariia Keasler in Cherokee County, NC where my grandfather was born and she provided the following information: Marilia  did find the birth certificate on my grandfather, Mose Chappel in Cherokee County NC. He was born in Cherokee County on April 13, 1909. My great grandfather was William Henry Chappel, born in Yatkin (which I believe is actually Yadkin), NC in 1879. My great grandmother was Florence Ellen Dockery, born in Union County, GA in 1874. There are no other records there; however, with this information I should be able to trace my family through Yatkin (Yadkin), NC and Union County, GA. Union Countywhich is located in Blairsville, Georgia.  We looked for a marriage certificate for William and Florence, but were unsuccessful due to not knowing the date of marriage. They may have also been married in another county or state.  I talked to the woman at the Yadkin County, North Carolina Register of Deeds ( 336) 679-4225 on 7/11/08. She told me that they only started keeping birth records in 1913.  She looked in the birth and the marriage index records they have and found the following in the marriage records:  William Chappel & Elizabeth Gross were married in Yadkin County on November 2, 1854.  They could be William Henry Chappel ( my great grandfather) s parents. The timing would be correct.

Lee MuseI am trying to locate where in Union County land lots 48 and 49, District 10, Section 1 are located. So far I have been unable to locate a map that shows were this property is. I think the Duncan Cemetery is on this land but I am not sure.  Can you help?  My ancestors are DUNCANs and GILLESPIEs and my wife is from the BOWLING and PENLANDs.

John Goins.  I am researching my 2nd great grandfather. From what research I have done, he seems to have moved from Pulaski County, KY, down to Georgia, during the gold rush. I do not know whether he moved by himself, or with his family (so far I cannot locate parents names). I do know he joined the GA volunteers during the Mexican war (1846-1848), and his place of enlistment is listed as Union County. On his pension application, he stated that before the war, he was 'digging for gould' (his spelling exactly).  Therefore I suspect that he may have been located in Union County and that is why he joined the war from that county. Anyway, its a good place to start my search.  Sorry for all the details, but to the point, I wanted to ask you if you knew of, or could recommend, any known sources of information for the years around the Georgia Gold Rush. I know there were land lotteries, so I am looking to see if I can find the family name listed with any of those (but I doubt he had any land there, since he settled in TN after the war). I was wondering if there may have bee any special census that took place, that attempted to gather info on those that had come to the area to search for gold. At this point, I am just trying to get started and thought since you were familiar with the county, you may have some good suggestions. My ancestors name was Gideon Myers. Douglas Smith.  William MILLER was born in Georgia on May 23, 1824. It has been very difficult to fiqure out who his parents were. There was a Zealot Miller living in Lumpkin Co., Ga., in 1834 whose occupation was a miner. He was old enough to be William's father, perhaps he was. They were both living in the Frogtown district in 1850. I have not been able to connect them together yet.  William married Catherine Amy WATTS (dau. of Garrett Watts?) on June 10, 1845 in Lumpkin Co. She was born in 1828 in N.C. They had 16 children. Catherine died on July 7, 1888. William next married Mary "Dad" SELF. She was born in 1865. They had 4 children: (1) Peter, he married Nellie Jarrard, (2) Paul (3) William, he married Ruth Dover (4) Tom.  It has puzzled many of the descendants why Williamss second wife went by the name of Mary "Dad". If anyone has any information or additions or corrections, please feel free to contact me.

Ed Eller.  I am looking for any info on Nancy ALLEN who married Jacob ELLER in Rabun or Union County abt 1830.

Robert McKenzie.   I got some information once & figured it to be erroneous, about my great great grandfather (Robert TRAMMELL) Robert was born in SC on 12/29/1788. He married a girl named Mary, in Union County Ga. Mary was born in 1808..I think they were married in 1828 or 1833 but not sure.. She was so much younger, I simply though it to be the wrong Robert..Their children were Loretta (b 1835, in union county), Jacob Lafayette (b1841, d 1923- My great grand father). Andrew (b 1843) , Malcamby (b 1845) & Nancy (b 1847). All show Union County. Can you tell me who I might call to get the marriage record ? & possibly birth records of the children (if they were born there)..?? Whoever I talked to, I sent her a picture of Jacob L Trammell's sons. But, I discounted what she told me (by phone) about the marriage, because it sounded like she had the wrong Robert, at the time. It turns out, he married Mary, who was 20 years his junior.. I have Robert's descendant (5 generations) & his tree back to the 1700s (& beyond), if you want them.. I just want to find his marriage records (mostly).

Wayne Drinnen.  I suspect that William M. STILES  is my Great-great-grandfather who is buried in Pollard Cemetery in Sevier County, Tennessee. If so, he lived in the Kodak area of Sevier County until his death in June 9, 1907. I have his date of birth as January 1838 in Arkequah, Union County, Georgia.  I have been looking for information on his wife also from Union County, Lucinda Jane COOK. She completely eludes me. They were married on May 8, 1859 in Union County.

Kathy Nuernberg.  Seeking information for:

SARAH L HOUSTON, born in Blairsville, Union County, Georgia in May, 1850. Daughter of JOHN G & MARTHA ELVIRA (nee Meadows) HOUSTON. Married JOHN LEONIDAS CABE on July 15, 1866 in Polk, TN.

Brenda Danielson.  Can you help me find where my ancestor lived in Union County, Georgia?  I found him in the Georgia Property Tax Digests, 1793-1893.  His name was James L. BAILEY.  The list doesn't give me much info to go on, but I hope you have access to more records.  He is in Union County in all the Census data for many years.

Nancy Dickens. My husband is a descendant of Absalom, Thomas Francis, and Thomas Lafayette.  I know that he has Native American blood in his ancestry and that it came through the Hooper line.  I think Thomas Francis was married to Cintha Alvinia Rogers and that she was probably Native American.  However, his family says that Thomas Lafayette Hooper (“Fate”) was full-blooded Native American, which means that Thomas Francis was maybe a Native American adopted by Absalom, Jr.?  Have you ever heard any “rumors” about this?
