Mr.
Lawrence Lendoff Chapman, age 90, of Acworth died Wednesday, July 29. Funeral services wee held at 11 a.m. on
Saturday, August 1 at the Acworth First Baptist Church with Rev. Gene
Powell
and Rev. Emon Jones officiating. Burial
followed at Liberty Hill Cemetery.
A native of
Blairsville, GA, Mr. Chapman had resided in Cobb County for over 50
years. He was a former Deacon at Acworth
First
Baptist Church and currently a Decon at Hickory Grove Baptist Church. He was married for 62 years.
He is
survived by his wife, Selma S. Chapman of Acworth; sons: Ronald Chapman
of
Acworth and Terry Chapman of Cartersville; daughters: Alene Henson of
Acworth,
Myrna Chambers of Acworth, Barbara Reagan of Smyrna, Abbie Davis of
Acworth,
Betty king of Marietta and Mary Willis of Acworth; and 12 grandchildren.

Mrs.
Kathleen Coutu, age 83, died Saturday, June 20, 1998 in Holden Nursing
Home
after an illness. She was born in
Blairsville, GA, a daughter of Joseph and Blanche (Butt) Ciprian, and
lived in
Worcester and more than 20 years in Shrewsbury before moving to Holden. She was a 1932 graduate of Union County High
School and a 1934 graduate of Young Harris College.
She graduated from University Hospital School
of Nursing in Augusta, GA in 1937 and Clark University in 19946. She earned a master’s degree in education
from Clark in 1953.
She was a
registered nurse and later director of nursing at Worcester State
Hospital for
more than 31 years, retiring in 1977.
She was a member of St. Anne’s Church, a former member of the
Catholic
Nurses Association, the Massachusetts State
nurses
Association and the State, County & Municipal Employees Association
of
Massachusetts.
She was
preceded in death by her husband, Harold H. Coutu in 1976 and her
brother,
Charles Wayne Nuite in 1968. Survivors
include Mrs. Charles Wayne Nuite (Ella) of Hephzibah, GA, and nieces:
Irene
Nuite Lofton of Mt. Pleasant, SC; Barbara Nuite Auld of Mt. Pleasant,
SC;
Carolyn Clark Nuite of San Francisco, CA; and Charlotte Nuite Kitchen
of
Wadmalaw Island, SC.
A funeral
mass was held in St. Anne’s Church. Entombment
was in the Notre Dame Cemetery
Mausoleum. Memorial contributions may be
made to the Massachusetts Association for the Blind, 200 Ivy St.,
Brookline, MA
01545; or St. Anne’s Human Services, 130 Boston Turnpike, Shrewsbury,
MA 01545.

Mrs.
Donna Laffoon, age 82, of Blairsville, GA, passed away Saturday, August
1,
1998.
Mrs.
Laffoon was born in Fayette County, Iowa, on Thursday, March 9, 1916, a
daughter of the late James Simpson and Chloe Stapes Simpson. Mrs. Laffoon had been living in Blairsville
since 1989, coming here from Jacksonville, FL.
She was a retired manager of a dry goods store.
Mr. Laffoon was a member of First Baptist
Church of Blairsville. She had been
preceded in death by her husband, Donald Laffoon in 1991.
Surviving are
her son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Vee Laffoon, of Blairsville;
grandchildren: Rob Laffoon, of Arlington, TX, and Donna Peacock, of
Loxahatchee, FL; four great-grandchildren also survive.
Funeral
services were held Monday, August 3, 1998 at 11 a.m.
from First Baptist Church of Blairsville, with Rev. Danny Parris
officiating. Special music was presented
by Terry Hooper
and The Silvertones. Serving as honorary
escort to the family were members of the T.E.L. Sunday School Class. Interment was in Chapel Hills Memorial
Gardens in Jacksonville, FL, on Tuesday, August 4, 1998.
