Death of Mr. L. F. Fielder
The many Meriwether friends of Mr. Frank Fielder will regret to hear of that
gentleman's death. His death was a result of an accident and occured near his
home at Box Springs. He had carried a bale of cotton to the gin and was
awaiting his turn. While walking near the cotton press he fell on the cog wheel
and was so badly mashed by the cogs that he died a few hours later. He lived in
this county several years and married Miss Belle McLaughlin, sister of Hon. B.
F. McLaughlin. The wife and five little girls survive him. The deceased was an
industrious and useful citizen.
Additional Comments:
Leander Frank Fielder was the son of William Pinkney Fielder and Susannah
McLaughlin Fielder. He was born on November 2, 1858 and had a twin brother,
Joseph T. Fielder. Frank Fielder, as he was known, married Cathryn
Isabelle "Belle" Fielder, on April 28, 1889 in Marion County, Ga. Belle was the
daughter of Josiah Tuck McLaughlin and Mary Ann Jane Jordan. Frank and Belle
have five children: Susie, Joe, Harry, Daisy and Edna. The obituary was
incorrect in stating all of the children were girls. Frank Fielder is buried
at Mt. Zion Cemetery which is located on the grounds of Ft. Benning, Ga. in a
restricted area. Permission must be obtained before visiting the cemetery.
After Frank's death, Belle Fielder moved her family to Hogansville, Ga. (Troup
County) and lived there the rest of her life. My great-great grandmother was a
sister of Frank Fielder and I would like to correspond with anyone related to
this family. Frank's obituary was located and shared with me by Ben McLaughlin
