Death of Mr. J. E. Smith

Late on Monday evening at 7:15 o'clock the immortal spirit of Mr. J. E. Smith passed into eternity. This is the second death in the Smith family within the past week, Mrs. Smith, the mother having passed away on Wednesday afternoon of last week. At the time of Mrs. Smith's death, the condition of Mr. Smith was of a serious nature, but nothing could stay the grim monster, and he, not knowing of his wife's death, found her waiting him in the spirit land.

Mr. Smith was a man who stood high in the estimation of his friends. By his death, the family, the community, the county, the lodge and the church have suffered a loss which is hard to overcome. Almost every one was impressed by his dignity and manly bearing, his pure morality, his regular attendance upon church and his kind and genial disposition. He had hope, through riches of grace to a blissful life beyond.

It is hard to bear such grief, and we, like Jesus, weep over the departure of this noble couple. They had trod the same pathway in life, and in death they were not separated. We extend our sincere sympathy to the bereaved family and trust that the Father of all will comfort and sustain them in their dark hour of grief.

The funeral was conducted at Pharr Bros. & Childs Co.'s private undertaking parlors, at 10 o'clock Wednesday morning by Rev. Davis of Chipley. Immediately following these services the body was interred in Hill View cemetery by the side of the new made grave of his faithful and devoted wife.

Mr. Henry Smith, a son of the deceased couple, continues ill at their home on Whitesville street.
