Rupert

Rupert Community is located in the south central section of the county in the Cedar Creek GMD #1071.

Early families around the turn of the century included: Bone, Cooper, Fowler, Allman, Hill, McCarty....just about everyone buried in Prosperity Cemetery.

Origin of Name

It is pronounced Ru Pert, with emphasis on Pert. We're still working on the name origin. One account indicated that the small town of Royal (10 miles south of Butler) and Soda Town were combined to form the Rupert Post Office. Rupert came into being before the completion of the railroad in late 1905. In a June 1904 issue of the Butler Herald was the following article. "Fire swept over a large portion of piney woods near Rupert last Friday caused from lightening. No serious damage was done however." During RR days, Rupert was a thriving little town (as was Mauk and Charing). Many people rode the train from Rupert to Mauk with a stop in Charing.

Early Beginnings

Early families included Bone, Cooper, Fowler, Allman, Hill, McCarty. (Just about everyone buried in Prosperity Cemetery)

Early Schools

Account of early schools

This material is based on information in the Butler Herald 1976 History. I welcome additional information about early Fickling Mills and the families who lived there.
