McKendree Blanton, one of the oldest and best known citizens
in this county, died at the residence of his son W. P. Blanton
near Zetella, on Monday night 9 o'clock and was buried at Mt. Zion
yesterday at three o'clock.
Mr. Blanton was born in Oglethorpe County in 1817 and was
89 years of age. He moved to this section 60 years ago and settled
near the place where he died. He was a life long member of the
Methodist Church, and it is said he had not missed a camp meeting
at Mt. Zion Camp Ground in forty years. He was a high minded,
charitable man, who had the respect of all who new him, and his
death removes one of the old landmarks besides being a loss to the
community.
He also leaves two sons, W. P. and L. P. Blanton, and two
daughters, Mrs. W. V. Maddox and Mrs. Jas. R. Ellis
residing in this county, besides two daughters living elsewhere.
Besides his family he leaves many friends to morn his death.
