BROWN FAMILY HISTORY I started with Tarlton Brown who was actually from Barnwell SC because he is my ggg grandfather and to identify the other family members I needed to start with him. He later migrated to Sylvania, Screven County, Georgia. My g grandfather was a dentist in Sylvania, Screven County, Georgia and his children were all born in Sylvania, Screven County, Georgia Tarlton Brown (1757-1845) a native of Albemarle County, Virginia, a Captain in the American Revolution, Colonel in the South Carolina Militia, planter in Barnwell District South Carolina. Married first Amelia Matthews (died cir 1801) married second Judith (O'Bannon) Cook a widow (1770-1837). Tarlton is my ggg grandfather) Children of Tarlton Brown and Amelia Matthews are: William Duke Brown (1792-1866) married Mary Elizabeth Langley. Almedia Brown (1793-1855) married 1811 Preston Harley (1792-1837) son of Elizabeth Jackson (1754-1822) and Lieutenant Joseph Harley III (1748-1807). *Reverand Lewis Matthews Brown (1796-1876) a Baptist minister married in Virginia (1831) Elizabeth Fuqua (died 1871) daughter of COL John Fuqua (b 1770). Lewis Matthews is my gg grandfather. Upon the death of Elizabeth Tarlton married Judith (O/Bannon) Cook (1770-1837) their children were: Dr. Austin Barnett Brown (1805-1880) a physician. Married (1834) Virginia Ann Elizabeth Bowdin (1819-1842) James Kennedy Brown (1807-1835) never married. Frances Caroline Brown (1809-1853) married Major William Henry Peyton (1801-1853) son of Richard Henry Peyton (1767-1813) Sarah Wilson Brown (dates unknown) predeceased her father. She married a Mr. Dopson. Her son Raymond R. Dopson is mentioned in Colonel Tarlton Brown's will. Reverend Lewis Matthews Brown married Elizabeth Fuqua of Virginia in 1831. Elizabeth died 1871. She was the daughter of COL John Fuqua. They had several children one of whom was: Lewis Barnwell Brown (born 1840) who married Frances Melissa Langley (1847-1900) one of the daughters of Sarah Rebecca Harley and Christopher Henry Langley, Sr. Lewis Barnwell Brown was a prominent dentist in Sylvania, Screven County, Georgia. Lewis was a member of the Black Creek SC Vol;unteers as a Copnfederate Soldier. Lewis is buried in Jackson Church cemetery in Screven County. Lewis Barnwell Brown is my g grandfather Lewis and Frances' children were: Tarlton Brown born 1866 Langley Brown Willie Brown (born 1869) Elozabeth (Betsy) Brown married Derwent Alonzo Langley Eolah Brown Fuqua Brown Atticus Brown(9-2-1879 to 2-13-1958) married Nena Elizabeth Brinson (11-14-1885 to 11-26-1926) on 12-30-1903). my grandparents Melissa Brown married a Mr. Birdwell. Atticus and Nena had several children most of whom died in infancy. Following are their children: Margaret Frederika Brown (10-17-1904 to 4-2-1992) married Lonnie LeRoy Milligan (5-24-1892 to 8-8-1963) on April 18, 1925.
