? - May 2, 1899

Stan Bevers gg grandfather was Rev. John RAKESTRAW, son of John and Susan RAKESTRAW.  The younger John served about three years in the Confederate army, then returned home and married Nancy S. BARBER (?) in 1865.   The Reverand had an older brother, Ivey RAKESTRAW, and the following note was sent to me by one of his direct descendants, Gail Hutchinson:

 

****    Ivey RAKESTRAW was a miller.  His first mill was located near the Old Electric Dam Road.  His second mill was located on what is now called Old Rakestraw Mill Road.  The mill and homeplace were located a short distance from McGarity School (Dallas, GA). 

Ivey served in the Civil War as a member of Co. D, 1st GA CAV of the Confederate States Army.  He and his Company fought in Tennessee, Kentucky, South Carolina, and Georgia.  Ivey was captured in 1864, near Atlanta. 

Ivey died May 2, 1899 from injuries he sustained while cleaning debris from the water wheel of his mill.  Virginia [his wife, Virginia Neal CARROLL] died April 2, 1919.     *******
