Following are several Obituaries for the POPE Families of Stewart Co, GA, Muscogee Co, GA, Russell Co, AL, and Lee Co, AL. I have personally transcribed them from microfilm of various newspapers and this is my authorization to use them in any manner that appears appropriate. Obituary for William Thomas Pope: The Enquire, Columbus, Muscogee Co, GA Sunday Morning May 28, 1899, Pg. 3

MR. W. T. POPE’S DEATH.   He was an Aged Citizen of Stewart County, Mr. W. T. Pope died at the residence of his son, Mr. J. W. Pope (James Warren Pope), in Wynnton, at 8:35 o’clock yesterday morning (Saturday, 27 May 1899) after an illness of one week of Bright’s Disease. His death was hastened on by a severe fall sustained last Friday (26 May 1899).

Mr. Pope was a resident of Stewart county, but was visiting his children in this city at the time of his death. The deceased was 78 years of age and was an old Confederate veteran having served in the Thirty-first Georgia regiment. Mr. Pope is survived by a heartbroken wife, seven sons and one daughter, all of whom have the sincere sympathy of many friends in the hour of their sad affliction.

The deceased was a member of the Missionary Baptist Church at Pleasant Grove, and was well known through Stewart county, where he resided, and the news of his death will cast a gloom over the community in which he resided.  The remains will be taken on the 7 o’clock train this morning to Pleasant Grove, where the funeral will take place. The services will be conducted by Rev. R.J.B. Hawks.

B. T. POPE- Funeral Services for B. T. Pope, whose death occurred at his residence at 627 Fifth avenue, Phenix City (Russell Co, AL), Monday morning were held Tuesday afternoon at 3 o’clock from the Central Baptist church of Phenix City, conducted by Rev. J. J. Justice, pastor, assisted by Rev. A. J. Cone.

The services were attended by many of the friends of the deceased and the following were pall bearers: Active, Huel Pope, Haywood Pope, Alvin Pope, Coleman Gullatt, Lamar Gullat, Frank Gullatt; honorary, A. E. Gullatt, W. P. Gullatt, C. B. Gullatt, A. L. Gullatt, E. S. Gullatt, R. E. Gullatt. A quartet composed of W. E. Shearer, J. E. Shipman, Miss Alma Mackay, and Miss Mattie McKay sang “ No Care Up Yonder.”  The Misses Mackay rendered “In the Land Where the Roses Never Fade”.

Obituary for Bryant Thomas Pope, Columbus Enquirer-Sun, Tuesday Morning, March 15, 1927:    B. T. Pope, 73, died at his home at 627 Fifth Street, Phenix City (Russell Co, AL), at 2 o’clock yesterday morning (March 15, 1927), after an illness of five weeks of paralysis. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. B. T. Pope (Cynthia Missouri (Colman) Pope); 6 sons, S. W. (Silas William) Pope, Creo, Miss., T. O. (Toombs Oscar) Pope, Columbus, V. A. Valpeau Adolphus) Pope of Phenix City, W.A. (Walter Appleton) Pope, Creo, Miss., V. D. (Vaster Devest) Pope, Greenville, S.C., P. L. (Prior Lopez) Pope of Opelika, Ala., five stepsons, A.E. (Augustas Eugene) Gullatt, W. P. (William Powell) Gullatt, C.B. (Claude Bertram) Gullatt,   A. L. (Alfred Livingston) Gullatt and E. S. (Ernest Sherod) Gullatt, all of Phenix, Ala., A stepdaughter, Mrs. J. I. Jenks (Leono Katherine Gullatt), of Howard, GA, five brothers, J. W. (James Warren) Pope, R. J. (Rufus J.) He was a member of the Central Baptist Church. Mr. Pope was one of the oldest citizens in Phenix and was highly esteemed and will be greatly missed by his many friends. The funeral will take place at the Central Baptist Church at 3:00 o’clock, Tuesday evening. Services will be conducted by Dr. J. J. Justice, pastor of he Central Baptist Church. MRS. SARAH M. POPE,   Mrs. Sarah Missouri Pope, 78, died last night (12 Feb 1933) at 10:30 o’clock at her residence, 627 Fifth street, Phenix City, after a short illness, She was a member of the Central Baptist church and is survived by one daughter, Mrs. J. I. Jenks (Leono Katherine Gullatt); four sons, C. B. (Claude Bertram) Gullatt, A. L. (Alfred Livingston) Gullatt, A.E. (Augustas Eugene) Gullatt, E. S. (Ernest Sherod) Gullatt, all of Phenix City; sixteen grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 o’clock at Central Baptist church. Rev. W. J. Ray will conduct the service and interment will be at Pine Grove cemetery. Active pall bearers will be: R. E. Info: Cynthia Missouri ‘Pinkie’ COLEMAN, m.1st (20 Sep 1871, Russell Co, AL) Robert Benjamin GULLATT (d. 10 Feb 1890.) Robert Benjamin died by drowning in the Chattahoochee River. He was a farmer. He, Cynthia and children lived 16 miles from Columbus, GA near Crawford, AL. At the time of his death, Cynthia was pregnant with twins. Both died within a few months after birth. m. 2nd (10 May 1897, Lee Co, AL) Bryant Thomas POPE (d. 14 Mar 1927, see Obituary earlier). This was Bryant Thomas POPE's 3rd marriage. Bryant Thomas was the son of William Thomas POPE and Julia A. Elizabeth CHESTNUT. (See William Thomas POPE Obituary earlier.)

George S. Pope of 2009 Fifth avenue, Phenix City, died at the family residence at 8 o’clock Sunday morning, after an illness of a few hours. He was the son of the late William and Elizabeth Chestnut Pope. Mr. Pope was born October 11, 1874. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Nanie P. Pope; one daughter, Mrs. Lena Gill, of Macon, Georgia; two brothers, Arthur Pope, of Phenix City, and Warren Pope, of Omah, Georgia; also several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at the north Phenix City Baptist church at 2 o’clock Monday afternoon, with Rev. Lonie Fields officiating, assisted by Rev. Stamps. Interment was in the Girard cemetery. Pallbearers were Emmitt Pope, Floyd Hodge, Henry Concle, Haywood Pope and Benals Ward, all nephews.

Mrs. Maggie Lee Pope, aged 56, a lifelong resident of Phenix City (AL) died Tuesday morning (November 21, 1939) at 9:30 o’clock at the family residence, 1716 Fourth avenue, following an illness of one month. Mrs. Pope was the daughter of the late J. M. and Martha Emma Walker Stover and was born in Phenix City, December 10, 1882. She was a member of St. James Freewill Baptist church. Besides her husband, she is survived by three daughters, Mrs. R. B. Ward and Mrs. Gladys Pope of Phenix City, and Mrs. J. W. Deason, of Inverness, AL; four sons, H. A.,   I. L., Chester and Lauvere Pope of Phenix City, AL; a sister, Mrs. Ida Phillips, of Columbus, GA; a brother, L. M. Stover, of Muscogee, OK; nine grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. The remains were removed to the residence of her son, H. A. Pope, 1611 Fourth Ave., Phenix City and remained until Wednesday afternoon at three o’clock when the body was carried to the Church of God, Thirteenth street and Tenth Avenue, Phenix City, where the funeral services were conducted at four o’clock. Rev. Woodrow Wilson officiated and was assisted by Rev. W.E. Pope. Pallbearers were Leon Strictland, Cecil Phillips, J. B. Pope, Marvin Pope, Clyde Phillips and Clifford Branch. Interment was in Pine Grove cemetery.

“Day’s Illness Fatal To Velpo Pope”,   Velpo Pope, 64, died Thursday (20 Jan 1943) at 3 a.m. at his home, 1716 Fourth avenue, Phenix City (Russell Co, AL), after an illness of only one day. Mr. Pope had been a resident of Phenix City all his life. He was a member of the Saint James Freewill Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife, three daughters, Mrs. Hazel Ward and Miss Gladys Pope, of Phenix City, and Mrs. J.W. Deason of Union Springs, Ala; four sons, Hayward, Chester and I. F., of Phenix City, and Lavare Pope of the U. S. Army; five brothers, T. O. and P. L. Pope, of Opelika, Ala; Vaster Pope, of NC, and Walter Pope, of MS. Funeral services will be announced pending the arrival of out-of-town relatives.

Velpo Pope Paid Last Tribute Funeral Services for Velpo Pope, 64, who died Thursday morning at his home, 1716 Fourth Avenue, Phenix City, will be held at 5 o’clock this afternoon at the Hayes Funeral Chapel, Rev. LeRoy Knighton will officiate and burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Fletcher Bartee, T. A. Hardy, John Bartley, G. S. Brooks, W. L. Barker and O. E. Cole.

Obituary for A. F. Pope   Wednesday, March 10, 1948, Columbus Ledger News Funeral services for Arthur F. Pope, 78, 1622 Seventh Avenue, Phenix City, who died Tuesday afternoon at Memorial hospital, will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday at West Side Baptist church, the Rev. J. S. Johnston officiating. Burial will be in Pine Grove cemetery.

A native of Crawford, Ala., Mr. Pope moved to Phenix City as a boy. He married the former Miss Porter Lee Hall in 1890. He was a member of West Side church and the woodman of the world. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his two daughters, Mrs. L. W. Hodge, Sr. and Mrs. W. H. Conkle, Phenix City, AL, three sons, A. D. and Lewis V. Pope, Phenix City, and L. L. Pope, Charleston, S. C., 18 grandchildren, nine great grand children and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be: active, Floyd, Leon, Dan and Lewis W. Hodge, Jr., Bobby Conkle and Arthur D. Pope, Jr; honorary, H. D. Cobb, Sr., A. L. Gullatt, Herbert Booth, James Horne, W. L. Harrell, Cary Ramsey, and Ernest Ramsey.

Mrs. Bassie Pope, 73, 1338 Springer St., died Friday at St. Francis Hospital. She was born on Nov. 14, 1893 in Henry County, Ala., daughter of the late James Henry and Alice V. Kellup Jackson. Obituary of Prior Lopez Pope    Opelika-Auburn News, Friday 4, 1977 Funeral services for pryor Lopez Pope, 91, of Route 1, Opelika, will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 6, graveside, at Garden Hills Cemetery, the Rev. Jimmy Blanton officiating. Mr. Pope died today at Lee County Hospital. Survivors include two sons, M. W. (Marvin Weldon) Pope of Opelika, Roy B. (Byron) Pope of Long Beach, Calif.; three daughters, Mrs. Elza (Elois) Smith of Long Beach, Calif., Mrs. Robert Bell (Mary Cue) of Opelika, Mrs. Lucille (Esther Lucille) Pope of Opelika; 12 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. Mr. Pope was the father of the late H. A. (Huel Adolphus) Pope of Opelika. Fredrick’s Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Obituary for Clarence E. (Bill) Pope, Opelika Daily News, Sunday, December 6, 1976. Funeral services will be held today at 2 p.m. for Clarence E. (Bill) Pope. The services will be held from the chapel at Frederick’s Funeral Home with interment at the Providence Cemetery. Rev. Robert Dismukes will officiate. Mr. Pope died at the Lee County Hospital on Friday. He was 69 years old and a resident of Opelika. Mr. Pope was a member of Providence Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mamye Lois Pope, Opelika; two sons, William Pope, Phenix City; David Pope, Houston, Tex.; two sisters, Mrs. Agnes Dennis, Mrs. Gladys Jackson, both of Montgomery; and two grandchildren.

POPE, Mamye Lois Golden, age 89, died Friday, December 19, 2003, in Columbus, Ga.

A lifelong resident of Lee and Russell County, Ala., she had lived the past 10 years at the Oak Manor Nursing Home in Columbus, Ga. Mrs. Pope was born April 27, 1914 in Rutherford, Russell Co., Ala. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Earl (Bill) Pope, December 3, 1976. She is survived by her two sons, William M. "Billy" (Barbara) Pope of Phenix City and David Earl (Betty) Pope of Sugar Land, Texas; her granddaughter, Jan Poehling of San Antonio, Texas; Granddaughter, Donna Gayle Underwood, Sugar Land, Texas; four great grandchildren, Tommy Poehling, Austin Alexander and Skyler Underwood. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church of Phenix City.

Graveside services will begin at 2 P.M. CST, Sunday December 21 at Providence Baptist Church, Lee County Road, 166, Beauregard Community, with Rev. Dan Nixon officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, 1600 5th Avenue, Phenix City, AL 36867. Frederick's Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Obituary for Mamye Lois Golden Pope, Opelika Auburn Daily News,   December 21, 2003 Mamye Lois Golden Pope, 89, died Friday, Dec. 19, 2003, in Columbus, Ga. A longtime resident of Lee and Russell County, AL, she had lived the past 10 years at Oak Manor Nursing Home in Columbus, Ga.

Mrs. Pope was born April 27, 1914, in Rutherford, Russell Co., AL. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Earl (Bill) Pope, Dec. 3, 1976. She is survived by her two sons, William M.
