Nell Truitt BECK - would like to communicate with descendants of John BECK and Sarah WANSLEY, whose children settled in Murray County and had a large plantation. John and Sarah married during the Revolutionary War in Albermarle Co., VA and took land in Elbert Co., GA, where he died 11 July 1824. His children moved to Murray County and Sarah, their mother, moved there with them. One son was William, who owned the plantation "Woodlawn"; he married Ann Welch and their children were Caroline Elizabeth, Patrick Henry, Eugenia, Margaret, William James, Reuben Thomas, John Welch and Lucy Aurelia. I have an old typewritten article about Sarah Wansley Beck my dad carried around with him in Texas and wondered if this Beck family was related to ours. We still are searching.
Tom P. Carter Stephen Goodson CARTER came to Murray County in 1846 from North Carolina. The 1850 Census shows him to be age 13. He came to Georgia with William (age 38-born in Va),Ann E.(age 26-born in Tn.), John W.(age15-born in N.C.), Mary C.(age 7-born in Tn.)and James M. (age 20-born in N.C.) All ages shown are as of 1850 census. I am Stephen Goodson Carter's grandson and I am trying to determine who his father and mother are. While it's possible that William was his father, it isn't likely that Ann was his mother, as she would only have been 13 when he was born. Also, it appears that he had brothers John W. and James M. . And, it's possible that William and Ann were his older brother and sister. I'm looking for any information that will tell me who the mother and father were.

Shawna West I am looking for information on any WEST or LANKFORD family members related to William and Leaty(Leathy) WEST. William was born in SC about 1845; Leaty Caroline LANKFORD was born in TN in 1848. They moved with their family to Murray County, GA about 1875, presumably to be near Leaty parents, Wyatt and Tabitha LANKFORD. They resided in the Cisco, GA area until their deaths in 1928 and 1932 respectively. Two of their sons, William Marion and Robert were born in Murray County and lived in the area most of their lives. If you think you may have a link to this family please contact me. I have a lot of information about a branch of the family that moved to South Georgia in the late 1910's. I also have information taking the LANKFORD branch back to several more generations. Any lead is worth following.

Gary King I am trying to see if the Robert KING family I found in Murray Co. in the 1850 census is the same as that on the 1870 census in Caiborne parish, La. The reason I am uncertain is my great-grandfather, Daniel P. KING, was not born until 1854. (He was born in Ga., and reported on the 1880, 1900, and 1910 censuses that both his parents were as well). He DID have a brother, William, born in 1847, but the child named William on the 1850 census is 1, not 3. Please someone clear up my confusion.

Robert Williams Here's how my MILLERs came to Murray County, GA. Can anybody identify them?

Julia Ann GREEN was born 15 Feb 1830. She married a Mr. MILLER about 1848 and they had two boys William Russell "Russ" MILLER, born 1849 and Allison Woodville MILLER, born 1853. This Mr. MILLER apparently died before 1857, because in the 1860 census of Forsyth County, GA, the mother Julia Ann and her two sons William and Allison are listed with a man named Daniel HENDERSON, born 1827. They then had two other sons of their own; Missouri Cordelia HENDERSON, born 1857, and Martin Luther HENDERSON, born 1858. Later on they would have two more children, a daughter Mary Elizabeth HENDERSON, born 1860, and Daniel HENDERSON Jr., born 1862.

Now, the story goes that Daniel HENDERSON Sr. went off to fight in the Civil War and never returned home. We don't know what happened to him. His wife Julia moves the family up to Murray County, GA, where they are found on the 1870 census. Both sons Allison and William MILLER find wives in Murray County and are married, William in 1869 and Allison in 1875.

Can anyone tell me about the original Mr. MILLER that Julia Ann GREEN first married?

Appreciate any help you people could give me.
