Monroe County Probate Court has marriage and probate records from 1824, birth records from 1927, death records from 1940. The Clerk of the Superior Court has civil court and land records from 1821, as well as divorce records.  An advance payment of $10.00 must be submitted prior to the Probate Office doing any
genealogical research.  A money order for $10.00 should be mailed to the above address along with your request for ANY research.  Due to the rapid growth
of Monroe County they are very busy and reluctant to doing any genealogical research.

Monroe County Museum & Genealogy Room
Located in the Old Train Depot,

The room is owned and operated by the Monroe County Historical Society. The Old Train Depot is just a few blocks from downtown Forsyth, where you may visit the 1896 Courthouse, which is surrounded by eight blocks that contain 40 structures listed on the National Historical Register.

The Family History Library of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints contains many millions of rolls of microfilm which include original records of Georgia. You may order these films and have them delivered (for a small fee) to a local Family History Center.
