Looking for information on when (and why) Ezekiel Strickland and relatives moved to Meriwether County, Georgia and where relatives went from there. I am a descendant of Ezekiel Strickland through Sicero Marion Clay Strickland and Ancel Butler Strickland. Thanks,

I have information that my gg grandparents Jesse C (Christopher) PEARSON and Sarah Elizabeth Hay (Hayes?) were both born in Ga. Am wondering maybe Meriwether County since their first four children were born there from 1837 - 1844. They then moved on to Tallapoosa Co Ala. A John PEARSON shows up on the 1850 census and this would fit in with my information about possibly being a brother to my Jesse Christopher. If this were true, that would lend weight to the possibility that this family was from the Meriwether Co area. Wonder if anyone might have some information or a possible connection. Thanks.

I am trying to trace McNorrill BROWN and his ancestors. I have information that he was born November 2, 1827 and married Lucy Frances TYNER in Meriwether, County Georgia in 1848. They are listed on the 1850 census in Claiborne Parish, Louisiana and it shows that both of them were born in Georgia. I have been unable to trace any of McNorrill's ancestors and have no idea who his parents were. If anyone has any information on these Browns I would really appreciate hearing from them.

My genealogical research of my family, who are originally from the city of Rutledge, Morgan county is uncovering many things that were previously unknown. When acquiring G-aunt, Georgia Mae Henderson's death certificate I realized that the informant was a person unknown to us. His name is Emmett Henderson. Further research revealed that at age 26, Emmett was incarcerated for larceny in Meriwether county in 1910. The duration of said incarceration is unknown. Aunt Georgia was in her mid 30's when she died from pneumonia in Smyrna - Cobb county, 1945. I'm assuming that Emmett had also relocated to Smyrna. If you know of or are related to Emmett Henderson please contact me at

Seeking information on William WALKER who was farming in Meriwether Co. (between Woodbury
and Greenville) 1920/1930.  Anybody researching WALKER'S?

I am researching my great great grandparents, Mark Sanders WOMACK and Nancy Harrison JONES. In her application for a widow's pension based on his service in the War of 1812, she states that they were married 14 July 1836 in Meriwether Co., GA. A witness states that he is the brother of Mark Sanders WOMACK'S first wife, Elizabeth AVENT who died about the summer of 1835 and that he attended the wedding of Mark Sanders WOMACK and Nancy Harrison JONES  in the home of her father. Mark Sanders WOMACK  and Nancy Harrison JONES WOMACK moved to Chickasaw Co., MS in 1839, where they lived until their deaths. I am hoping to learn if Nancy's maiden name was HARRISON or JONES. I am inclined to believe that it was JONES, due to the fact that on my great grandmother's death certificate her mother's maiden name is said to be Nancy JONES.  I would love to hear from anyone who is researching this family. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

On December 5th, 1943, my great-grandmother, Alice KENDRICK, shot and killed her 14 year old adopted son, James Christian KENDRICK jr (Nooky). My family and I have always had questions about this murder and about the little boy. We obtained the court transcript from the Greenville courthouse and thought this would answer those questions. Sadly, it only created more. We would love to hear from anyone who is willing to share their memories of this incident. Also does anyone  know where we might find a copy of the transcript of the "commitment hearing," that was held at the community center in Manchester. Even the smallest bit of info would be appreciated.

I am seeking information on William Fletcher Woodruff (1857-1942). He may have been born in Meriwether or Troup County, Georgia. His death certificate states his father as John Woodruff and mother as Sallie Burston, both of Georgia. The earliest information I have on William Fletcher Woodruff is that he was working in the Dixie Mill in La Grange, Georgia in 1900 - he had 5 children (I have their names) and he was widowed (wife was Martha Patterson - who died between 1890 and 1900). My need is to determine William Fletcher Woodruff's birth place and confirm his parents. Thanks.

Surnames:GRESHAM, HARRIS, BEACH, HILL, WIMBISH. I am trying to make contact with descendants of Albert Y. GRESHAM  and Mary FOUCHE, whose grandfather was Davis GRESHAM from Greene County, Ga. Eliz Ann GRESHAM, the d/o Albert and Mary, married Henry Richard HARRIS in Meriwether County. Their children were Henry R. HARRIS who married Lola HARPER, and they had Louise HARRIS who married Henry Clay MOORE; Ella HARRIS who married John I. WIMBISH and they had Louise WIMBISH who married Charles Edwin BEACH; Lena HARRIS who married Hiram Warner HILL and they had Mary HILL and I think she could have marred a Wm. Terrell. I am a Gresham descendant (Archibald) from  Orange County, N. C. and Greene County, Ga. We have formed a Gresham Association and have connected with a good many of the family members of Edward, Archibald, Harris and Littleberry GRESHAM, all brothers. There were other brothers, Ferdinand, Beonia and a sister, Agnes. Years ago, my grandmother, Josie GRESHAM from Greene County and Ella Harris WIMBISH, were instumental in placing markers on the graves of Davis and Archibald, both Revoultional War Soldiers, in the GRESHAM Family cemetery in Greene County. They also had markers placed on two CSA family members, Sterling A. and Young Felx GRESHAM. This took place at a great celebration on July 4, 1936 in the community of Oakland, Greene County, Ga. We have so much history that we have found and would like to share with other members of this family, and do hope that they can fill in some blanks for us. I  do know that Mrs. WINBISH was very much into history and do hope that some of this sorta rubbed off on her family as well.  If anyone should know of the whereabouts of any of this family, I would appreciate you letting them know that they are needed to complete this family history. My husband and I lived in the Atlanta area and would so like to hear from them. They could contact me,
Lou Engelhart
