I am looking for information on these two brothers. I have information from a family history that states, Amos and William Cook were orphaned young in Meriwether Co., GA. Their mother later married a Mr. Stevens or Stephens. I never heard of any brothers or sisters, nor any half brothers. May have been some but I did not hear them mentioned. Amos and William Cook moved to Wilkinson County, GA in their early manhood. This information was written down by a GGUncle in 1959 from other family records and memory. I do not know who the parents of Amos and William are, and there must have been other children. Amos was born about 1813 and William about 1815. Many thanks.

Does anyone know where?  I am also related to the Keith line that is in Meriwether and remotely related to Nettie Keith Rowe who assembled the Meriwether Cemetery book and who lives on Keith Road. Where can one get a copy of the Meriwether Cemetery book?

Riley THOMAS was my Great Great Grandfather. He was born 1813 in North Carolina. By 1850 he was living in Meriwether County, Georgia where he remained until his death on July 13, 1879. He lived in the Rocky Mount and Jones Mill area of Meriwether County. I am sincerely interested in contact from anyone connected to or with knowledge of this THOMAS Family.

Seeking info on the following family in 1850 Meriwether:
...OWENS, Martin, 49, m, farmer, $675, b. GA
...OWENS, Martha, 42, f, b. GA
...OWENS, Mary, 19, f, b. GA
...OWENS, Martha A., 14, f, b. GA
...OWENS, Elizabeth S., 11, f, b. GA
...OWENS, Matilda C., 8, f, b. GA
...OWENS, Lucinda C., 4, f, b. GA
...WHALEY, Robert W., 12, m, b. GA

Other children include William, b. 1830, and Robert Martin, b. 1851. The location of this family in the 1850 census places them in the extreme northeastern corner of Meriwether near Pike and Coweta, not far from Mt. Carmel Methodist Church. I believe this to be the same Martin Owen who married Martha Kennedy/Kanady in 1827 in Upson County. The 1830 Upson census shows the following family of:
Martin Owen:
...male 30-40 (Martin) b. 1790-1800
...female 30-40 (Martha) b. 1790-1800
...female 15-20 (Unknown) b. 1810-1815
...male 0-5 (William) b. 1825-1830

Martin died in 1853 in either Meriwether or Fayette County and Martha filed for guardianship of her minor children in 1854 in Fayette County:

"Court of Ordinary, Fayette County, January Term 1854 (p. 87)
It appearing to the court that Martha Owens wishes to become the Guardian of the person and property of her minor children orphans of Martin Owens late of Meriwether deceased viz Martha Amanda, Sarah Elizabeth, Matilda C., Lucinda Caroline, and Robert Martin Owens. It is therefore ordered by the Court that the Said Martha Owens be appointed the Guardian of said Minor children upon her given bond and security in the sum of Eight hundred and twenty Dollars with William Owens her Security and taking the oath prescribed by Law.
J. L. Blalock, O.F.C."

The next census finds Martha and her children in Fayette County:
1860 Fayette Co., GA census, Fayetteville P.O., 16 July 1860, #849/849:
...Owen, Martha, 45, f, farmer, $800/$0, b. GA (actually should be abt 55)
...Owen, William, 30, m. farm laborer, b. GA
...Owen, Amanda, 22, f, domestic, b. GA
...Owen, Elizabeth, 18, f, domestic, b. GA
...Owen, Matilda, 16, f, (attends school), b. GA
...Owen, Caroline, 14, f, (attends school), b. GA
...Owen, Robert, 9, m, (attends school), b. GA

Neither Martha nor her children are found in the 1870 Fayette County census. Lucinda Caroline married William J. Fowler in Meriwether County in 1866 and they are found in the 1870 Campbell county census:

1870 Campbell County, Georgia, Campbellton District, Powder Springs P.O., #1069/1069
...Fowler, Wm. J., 21, m. farm labor, $0/$200, b. GA
...Fowler, Lucy, 18, f, keeping house, b. GA
...Fowler, Oscar, 2, m, b. GA

Next door is Lucinda's sister, Amanda, and her brother, Robert:
1870 Campbell Co., GA census, Campbellton Dist., Powder Springs P.O., p. 129, #1070/1070
...Owens, Amanda, 27, f, b. GA
...Owens, Robert, 19, m. b. GA

Lucinda and William moved to Cleburne County, Alabama by 1880 and Lucinda died in childbirth in 1886. She went by the name of "Lula." She is buried in the Ranburne Baptist Church Cemetery, as are many of her children. I have no idea what happened to the other members of this Owen family. If the girls married, they did not marry in Fayette, according to marriage records. There is a Robert M. Owens in Carroll County, age 27, in 1880 but I don't know if he is the same one shown above.

Lucinda Owen and William Fowler were my great-grandparents. I have tons of information on the Fowlers which I will gladly share. Any information on the Owen/Owens family appreciated. Many thanks in advance,
Judy Fowler Kilgore

My Rev. Ancestor John THOMAS had 9 daughters, one of whom was named Lucy THOMAS. She married an unknown OWIN/OWENS in Georgia. I cannot find a record of this marriage, but in the probate proceeding in Autauga County, AL, it states Lucy OWIN lives out of state, which leads me to believe that she and her family stayed in GA when John THOMAS migrated to Alabama in about 1818. I have found the following census in Meriwether County in 1850 and would like to either confirm that this person is Lucy THOMAS OWIN/OWENS or that she is not the same person. Any information that someone can give me would be greatly appreciated. I have lots of THOMAS information to share with Lucy THOMAS OWIN/OWENS descendants.

Here is the census information I found:

I'm looking for information on the death of William Allen Farmer in Meriwether County, GA. I'm looking for newspaper articles, obituary, etc. William Farmer was a U. S. Marshal. He was living in Chalybeate Springs, Meriwether County, GA during the 1930 US Census. He was given an assignment to pick up an escaped prisoner some time in the early 1930's. He had to go into the area called, "The Cove" in Manchester, Georgia to find and arrest the escapee. He never returned home to his family. Six (6) weeks later his body was found in The Cove. He had five (5) shot
wounds to his back from a pump shotgun.  The wildlife had worked him over pretty well, but he was still identifiable. The above info came recently from a descendant of William's. I have been
trying to find any reference to this murder of William Farmer as well as to where he was killed and where he was buried for several years. I would also like to order a death certificate on him. So far I've come up empty with all my attempts, but this information gives me new hope. Can someone who as excess to the necessary records help me with this? Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.  You will be completely reimbursed for copying and mailing fees. Thank you,

I am searching for the parents of John Franklin TAYLOR and Mary Lenore PORTER. They are shown on the 1920 census as John and Mary. They are on the 1910 as John F and Mary L. They are on the 1900 as John F and Mary L, but in 1870 they are Andrew J and Mollie . Their marriage license has J.A.J. and Mollie, they married 13 April 1871. In 1880 they had children Mammie, Minnie, Rosa and Callie G.  Believe me these are the same people. They moved to Jacksonville, Calhoun Co. AL, not sure when and I owned a grocery store there. I am also told that they donated some property to the college there. I am also told that Callie G. was severely burned in a house fire before they moved. I would appreciate it if anyone has any information on this family. Rosa is my grandmother. Thanks.
