The I REMEMBER DAHLONEGA series began as a weekly column in The Dahlonega Nugget when local author Anne Dismukes Amerson began collecting oral history in Lumpkin County. Published in four soft-bound volumes by Chestatee Publications, the contents include stories related to her by local old-timers in their own words, plus the fruits of her own extensive research into the area�s colorful history. All of Amerson�s books are written in an easy-to-read style filled with humor and human interest.

Volume 1: Originally published in 1990; reprinted in 1993 with a Foreword by Atlanta columnist Celestine Sibley and again in 1998; features interviews with three of the last of the old gold miners, who describe their personal experience with mining. Other interview articles tell stories about early roads and modes of transportation, living off the land, early stores and trades, etc. Contains 330 pages, 93 historic photographs, 67 interview articles, index.

Volume 2: Published in 1992 and reprinted in 1998; features an early photograph of Cane Creek Falls on the cover and a chapter about the history of the picturesque waterfall. Chapter 4 reveals that some of the earliest usage of hydro-electric power in the U. S. took place Lumpkin County�s Chestatee River and has photos showing some early dams and power plants. Contains 342 pages, 39 interview articles, 115 historic photos, maps, index.

Volume 3: Published in 1994; contains articles about interesting people who helped create local history (Benjamin Parks, Agnes Paschal, Harrison Riley, Amy Trammell, etc.) and historic places and events (�Dahlonega was Once the Hollywood of the South,� �Camp Wahsega Began as the CCC�s Camp F-11�). Part II has 38 interview articles (�Dorris Abee Remembers Serving Bob Hope at the Smith House,� etc.) Contains 321 pages, 95 historic photos, map, index.

Volume 4: Published in 1997; features cover photo and article about R. D. Hogue, owner of Auraria�s famed Josephine Mine, who donated most of the gold to gild the college steeple. Includes articles about the 1836 Lumpkin County Courthouse, dredge boats on the Chestatee River; �The Dahlonega Nugget� and the Tugboat �U.S.S. Dahlonega.� Contains 294 pages, 28 interview articles, 108 historic photographs, index.
