Dr Henry Hicks. He was an early promoter of Dublin

and one of its leading citizens.

Left is the brick office of Dr Robert Henry Hightower.

Said to have been the first brick building constructed

in Dublin after a fire destroyed almost all of the city.

The tent was set up as a center to inoculate citizens against smallpox.

Members of George W Carter family in front of their home.

Mr Carter was a prominent farmer in the county and had

large cotton holdings.  He served in the Senate of the

Georgia General Assembly 1900-1901

Dr Edward Burton Claxton and daughter Charlotte Iris in his

first automobile.  Dr Claxton was involved in

establishing several hospitals in Dublin.

Talmadge Hicks, an educator and farmer in Laurens County.

He was superintendent of Laurens County Schools

for a number of years.

George William Rountree and his wife Elizabeth Maddox Rountree

He was an engineer on the boat Dubois that navigated the Oconee River from Dublin to Darien.  She taught school.

Dublin ca 1872.  Mr and Mrs G S Hooks.  They managed the Hilton Hotel which had been built in the mid 18902.  It

became known as the Hooks House and later as the New

Dublin Hotel.  It was located on South Jefferson St.

John Thomas Duncan (1830-1891).  He was a lawyer, and

served in the House of Representatives of the Georgia General Assembly, serviced as the sheriff of Laurens County and

held other county offices.

T J Gilbert Merchandise store, Dry goods and notions.

The owner, Thomas Jordan Gilbert is fifth from

the right on the back row.

General David Blackshear, an early doctor in Laurens County.

Born 1764, died 1837.  He was in charge of building a string of forts on the western frontier of early Georgia to protect settlers from Indian attacks by the Creek tribes.  He was born 1764 in Craven NC.  Fought in the Revolutionary War at the age of 12 or 16.  After the war he became a surveyor and moved to Georgia in 1790.  He established his home in a small settlement of Springfield, which was originally in Washington County, now in Laurens County.  He was appointed Brig General in the state militia in 1799.  In the war of 1812 he again was called to service with the responsibility of defending the southern and western borders of Georgia.  He married Frances Hamilton and had children: James Hamilton Blackshear, William Thweatt Blackshear, Edward Jefferson Blackshear, Everard Hamilton Blackshear, Elijah Franck Blackshear.

Caroline Henderson, ca 1915.

She was a midwife and lived at the home of T J Perry.  She had been a slave and died at about the age of 90 about 1918-1920.

Laurens County, 12 Dec 1919.  Friends and relatives gather to celebrate the 100th birthday of Zenus Fordham, seated

whose home was located on Moore Station Road east

of Dublin.  He died 14 June 1920.  At the time of his death he left nine children, 62 grandchildren, 87 great grandchildren and 18 great great grandchildren.
