This is a picture of Helen Georgia taken around 1900. My
greatgrandparents (Harvey Walter Whitfield and Louisa Josephine
Whitley Whitfield) are standing on the left. My grandfather (Henry Lee
Whitfield) is standing in front of them. The Whitfield's
lived in and around Jackson County their entire lives. My grandfather is
buried in the Howington Cemetery in Nicholson, GA.
This is a photo of the old asbestos mine in Helen taken
sometime around 1900. I am only able to identify 2 people
in the photograph. Second from the left is Zachary Logan. He moved to Madison,
County Georgia, married Miss Evie
Bird and lived there until his death in the 1970's. 4th from the right is
my great grandfather Harvey Walter Whitfield.
Grover Cleveland "Cleve" Wilson
and Callie Wilson
Cleve and Callie Wilson were neighbor's of my grandparents
in the
Newtown district of Jackson County in the 1920's.
My grandfather Henry
Lee Whitfield was a basket maker. This
is a picture of him (on the right) and my father (his son in law,
James Walter Baird) making baskets sometime around 1935.
This is one of the earliest Baird-Ford family reunions.
Our family is still having these reunions yearly in Jefferson.
Jabel Robert Baird and Family 1939
Joseph Ervin Baird and family
My great-grandparent Joseph Ervin (Joe) Baird and Ida Altoona Cannon Baird and
their family around 1905.

County. He died in Commerce, GA in 1935
Back row: Sanford, Henry, Cecil, Jabel (my grandfather)
Front row: Herbert (Hub), Joe E. Baird holding Ernest, Ida holding Haskell,
Sarah Leona, Lola Jane
They had two more sons after this picture was taken Fred and John Terrell (J.T.)
This is another photo taken on the John B. Brooks farm in the 1950s.
Hwy 98 south of Commerce. Just past the old " Seabolt's Store ". The
observers
are watching an air show at the old air field that used to be there.
The only person I can identify in this picture is my
grandfather, Jabel Robert Baird. He is leaning
against the post on the right side of the photo. I would like help finding out
who the other folks are.
My parents James Walter Baird and Daisy Lee Whitfield Baird.
This is interesting to see - a wagon pulled by a bull
instead of a horse. This is my grandfather
Henry Lee Whitfield as a young teen. He trained the bull to pull the wagon.
Reverend C.I. Whitley was my great-grandmother's
(Louisa Josephine Whitley Whitfield's) brother. He
was a traveling preacher in NE Georgia. My mother described him as "the best
man I have ever known".
Benton Elementary School 1936. I believe the 2nd from the
right in the front row is my mother Daisy Lee Whitfield Baird.
The only person in this picture I can identify is my brother David Oliver Baird. Front row 3rd from left.
These three photos are of plane crash in Jackson County (Pendergrass area) in
the mid 1950's. You can see by
all the people (children included) wandering
around the crash site that plane crashes ain't what they used to be.
