MEMORIAL -----MR. ALSA ROBERTS
________________
After the dark mantle of night had covered the earth on Sept. 24, 1918, the spirit of Mr. Alsa Roberts winged its way to Heaven, sweeping through the gates into the Celestial City.
He was sick for more than four months, and suffered greatly during that time.
God in His love to him so ordered that in his last sickness he had the best care and attention possible, but all his family, friends and physician could do could not keep him, for God said, "Come and dwell with me."
Mr. Roberts was of a very quiet nature. He was a friend to all, a foe to none.
He was not perfect, for there are none such in this world, but tried to walk in the footsteps of his Christ, and follow the teachings of the Bible.
He joined the Baptist church in early life, and without making long professions, he loved the church, and was interested in its welfare.
He spoke of his going away, and told his loved ones where he wanted to be buried.
He leaves a wife, Mrs. Alice Roberts and four children: Bascomb, of Gainesville; Ernest, of Texas; Rainey, of Commerce; and Mrs. J. W. Watson, of North Carolina, to mourn his death. Also, several sisters and brothers. he was 64 years of age.
A short while before he passed away, on being asked if he wanted anything, replied, "Just a little more rest."
We feel sure he has entered that rest, sweet rest, in the Saviour's arms, for which he so earnestly asked.
In such an hour as this we can only go to Him whose heart beats in sympathy with all the sorrows of His children. In His hands we leave this sorrowing wife, children, sisters and brothers, and bid them trust Him in this sad hour.
May the
arm of God support and help you, and may His richest blessing rest upon you
all. And while crushed and overshadowed with grief, may you trust Him, who
doeth all things well, to join the links up yonder make the chain complete in
Heaven.
A Friend.
