DEATH OF MR. THOMAS PHILLIPS

Our hearts were made sad and overflowing with sorrow on Tuesday night the 12th of December, 1922, at 9:30 o'clock, when the death angels visited our home and took from us our dear and beloved father.    It seems  like it is more than we can stand but we submit to the Lord.  Thy will be done; The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away.  He was stricken with paralysis about four weeks before his death, and said to his children that the end of his life was near.

Father was born September 24th, 1847 and died the 12th of December, 1922 - seventy-five years, two months and sixteen days old.  He was twice married, his first wife being Miss Caroline Lyle; two children blessed their union; and on the 8th of December, 1909 God called her to live with Him in the beautiful glory land to await His coming.   So they have met, and what a grand and glorious meeting to know they will live together forever more.  On December the 22nd, 1910, he was remarried to Miss Susan Wise, who survives him.  He said the night before he died that he wanted to go home to rest and he fell asleep to awake in Heaven.  Oh, dear children and companion and grand children weep not, for he is gone to live with mother, and some day if we live as we should we will meet with them around the Great White Throne, and be a united family again.

He leaves a wife and two children, Mr. Hugh Phillips and Mrs. Mary Jane Brooks; two brothers, Mr. Augustus Phillips of near Walnut, and Mr. John Phillips of Lawrenceville; and sixteen grand children, and eleven great grand children, and a host of other relatives and friends, to mourn his departure.  He wrote his name by kindness, love and mercy, in the hearts of the people he came in contact with, and by that he will never be forgotten.  He joined the Baptist church at White Plains, and was baptized by Rev. W. H. Bridges, in July 1880; and Rev. Odis McNeal preached his funeral, after which Rev. Cooper gave an interesting and __________________ talk, at his home, and he was laid to rest at the Doster cemetery. to await the coming of the resurrection.
