                                         MRS. W. S. MATTHEWS

On Tuesday Feb 2, 1897 at 10 o'clock pm the spirit of Mrs. Lizzie Glenn Matthews of Apple Valley took its flight to the celestial realms above. That dread disease, pneumonia was more than she could bear, and calmly and peacefully-- "She wrapped the drapery of her couch about her and lay down to pleasant dreams."

Mrs. Matthews was born in Oglethorpe County Ga. in 1846 and at the time of her death was 50 years 8 months and 5 days old.  She was the daughter of C. T. and Sarah A. Glenn.  On the 9th day of March 1865 she was married to Mr. William S. Matthews and for nearly 32 years made him a helpmate indeed.  In 1869 Mrs. Matthews moved with her husband from Oglethorpe to Jackson County and has resided here since that time.  She united with the Baptist church at Harmony near the line of this county and Hall in 1872 and remained a faithful member in the branch of the Christian Church until she died.

She leaves a devoted husband, two daughters, two little grandchildren, one brother: C. L. Glenn of Whitt Tex, one sister: Mrs. W.W. Gholston of Danielsville, and a host of friends and acquaintances to lament  her death
