                       Mrs. A. T. Bennett Answers Last Summons

  Following a short illness, Mrs. Hannah Crump Bennett, widow of the late Captain Alva Thurmond Bennett answered the last summons early Sunday morning, death occurring at her country home near Apple Valley. 

  Mrs. Bennett was about 80 years of age and was a descendant of a prominent Franklin County family, coming to Jackson County following her marriage to Captain Bennett.  With the exception of a short period when she resided in Athens, her entire married life was spent at the Bennett homestead.  Here she dispensed cordial hospitality at all time, and ministered to the sick and needy of her community and was a leader in church activities, civic culture, which is evidenced in the lives of her children and step-children.  Her love, kindness and sympathy were extended to family and friends and gave pleasure to those who knew her. 

  Funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon in the church at Thyatira by Rev. T. C. Hardman of Commerce, assisted by Dr. J. E. Coker of Jefferson.  The pall bearers were Messrs: Guy Maley, Colquitt Sims, Alvin Evans, Hoke Arthur, Morgan Wilhite and Hoyt Nunn.  Interment was in the Morgan burial lot. 

  Surviving the deceased are the following children:  Mrs. Ned Pendergrass, Jefferson, Sam D. Bennett, Ellenton, Fla., Memory F. Bennett, Louisville, Ky., Hoyt H. Bennett, Athens, step-children:  George D. Bennett, Athens, Dr. J. J. Bennett, Sylvester, Mrs. Sarah Bennett Mahaffey, Gracewood.
