WILL OF SAMUEL S. HOUSE
Georgia
Jackson County
I, Samuel S. House of said state and county, being
of sound and disposing mind and memory do
make this my last will and testament.
Item 1 I want sold for the purpose of
paying my debts at my death and also to cover my burial
expenses that portion of my land lying north west of the following line and
between it and the ______
said line beginning at mouth of big ditch where it enters Park's Creek at the
upper side of the old
pasture running along said ditch to where it bends. Hence from
said bend to a white oak on the bluff
said W.O. being marked thence from said W.O. a straight
course to a cherry tree on the Jefferson
road: thence to the lower end of what is known as the John
Patch thence in the same direction to
the line between Dr. Brock (?) and myself adjoining G.N. Chandler and
others containing about 40
acres. If after the land is sold, it overpays said debts and expenses:
I want the remainder of the
money to be paid over to my son Smith.
Item 2 I bequeath and devise to my
beloved wife, M.L. House the balance of my home place
containing about 90 acres and also all my personal property: This bequest to
take the place and be in
lieu of dower and 12 months support and to be her property
as long as she lives and at her death to
be sold and distributed as hereinafter _____ after the burial expenses have
been paid.
Item 3 My son M.V. House now deceased having
already been paid $ 250 I give and bequeath to his
children $ 50 each.
Item 4 My daughter, M.E.
Hancock having already received three hundred dollars. I give and
bequeath to her two children John $ 5 and Ira (?) $ 50 and Bose (?)
$100.
Item 5 My son D D House having already
received $ 300 I give and bequeath to his two children John
and Sam $ 50 each.
Item 6 My daughter Julia Chandler having
already received $ 400 I give and bequeath to her $ 50.
Item 7 My son SS House having already
received $ 200 I give and bequeath him $ 250
Item 8 My son J M House having already
received $ 950 I will that he should receive no more of my
estate.
Item 9 My daughter M A Daniel having already
received $ 500 I will that she should not receive
anymore from my estate.
Item 10 My son J.C. House having already
received $ 342 I give and bequeath to him $ 258
Item 11 I will that if there is not enough
property left to pay the above amounts that the loss be divided
proportionately among the above named _____ and that if it goes over
that the gain be divided in like
manner.
Item 12 I hereby constitute and appoint my
son in law, G.N. Chandler executor of this my last will and
testament.
This the 30th day of January 1893

I want the dividing line changed from the white oak on the
Jackson County bluff running south west course to Post
oak above the Jefferson Road, thence
to a black oak near the John Patch hence straight on to a black oak beyond the
John Patch, hence to
a post oak on the J.M. Venable line. If this land is sold after I die I
want one fourth paid down and
one fourth year until it is all fully paid I want all the perishable property
that I own at my death to be sold
and applied to my debts.
Item I will and bequeath the homeplace where
on I now live to my beloved wife, Margaret L. House
during her natural life and after her death to be sold and divided as stated
in the first part of this will.
Item I give to my son J.C. House one big
bedstead and feather bed, l mattress and ten quilts. Also,
one bureau ,one sound table and five chairs and all the books I own at my
death.
Item I will that my son J.C. House be one of
my executors
This December 29, 1895

Amendment to Will
I , S.S. House of said state and county still
being of sound and disposing mind and memory make this
amendment to my last will and testament.
Having this day made a deed of gift to my son, J.C. House 66 3/4 acres
of land more or less being
the land lying above the dividing line heretofire described in said will and
being the same ordered to
be sold to pay my just debts and to cover my burial expenses. I hereby
revoke that portion or portions
of my will and amendments there to bequeathing certain amounts of money and
other property to him
and he is not to receive anything more than I have all ready given him.
Also having this day sold to G.N. Chandler the 103
2/3 acres more or less left in the homeplace. It is
my will that my just debts and burial expenses be paid out of the money to be
paid by said Chandler
on said land and also the expenses of maintaining and supporting my beloved
wife M.L. House which
said Chandler has agreed to do, be paid out of the same the amount of said
last expense to be left
with the honor of said Chandler.

on July 21, 1896.
