Minutes from Haralson County Historical Society Meeting January 12, 2009 Those in attendance: Jeri Ezell Karen Higgins Terrell McBrayer Pete Ewing Jana Gentry Philip Haddix Roy Black Naomi Black Charles Jarrell John Norton The meeting was called to order by President Karen Higgins. Due to the absence of Secretary Stephanie Jarrell, minutes from the last meeting were not read. Jeri Ezell is taking the minutes from this month's meeting. Treasurer's report - Jana reports a balance of $7847.89 Business: The Boatwright Hotel will be relocated to the City of Bremen. The SWHH has been rented. The note was also paid off by John Norton. Jimmy Pope has given the HCHS a list of items he is donating. Terrell, Stephanie and Karen will personally inventory these items and decide what would be appropriate to keep before signing list. Archives: - Philip is now making good progress. He also submitted a proposed mission statement for the archives: "The Haralson County Historical Society Archives has been established in order to protect, manage, procure, and make available for research all materials related to the county's significant structures, its municipalities, and the social, legal, economic, educational and artistic aspects of the lives of its citizens, throughout the county's history, to the end of serving the mission of the Haralson County Historical Society." Jana suggested a minor change of wording; motion was made and seconded with a vote to accept the statement with the word change. (The statement as written is what was agreed on.) - Philip has created a form for donated items to the archives. He also suggested inventorying all existing items. - Philip has not found much appropriate for the History Book yet. Building (Charles): - Fire extinguishers have been installed at a cost of $1406.91 - Back door needs weather stripping and a threshold. Charles and Roy will look at after meeting. - Grant from Georgia Power to insulate the attic has been denied. LCSH: - Terrell reports a couple has looked into purchasing the house on the lot. - He will submit a list of new officers and trustees. - Need a sign placed at the original site of LCSH (SR100) Chamber dinner is January 24th at the County High School. We agreed to purchase a table for 8 at $175 with everyone wishing to attend pay their own way. Budapest: - missing headstone; Karen spoke with Sheriff's Dept. and the committed amount for the reward is at $200 - Still working to get Landfill Road name change to Budapest Cemetery Road. BHPL: - the Library has been very busy lately. - FOTL should be able to keep the Library open until end of fiscal year (June). The County is cutting the budget for HCHS and BHPL by $3000 each. This is for the remaining 6 months of the fiscal year (a deduction of $500/month). John Norton will set up a meeting with Allen to discuss options. "Homework" for next month - set priorities for 2009.
