Opening Day”, Sat. January 2, 10:00 a.m., Historic Courthouse-Buchanan

Join exhibit partners for the “Grand Opening” of the exhibit with opening remarks from exhibit administrators Karen Higgins and Stephanie Jarrell. Mr. Rhubarb Jones will announce the winners of all the art & essay contests and the Sons of Confederate Veterans will demonstrate what soldiers ate during the War. Refreshments will follow opening remarks and contest winner announcements.

Etiquette and Manners” classes, Thurs. January 7 , 6:00-8:00 p.m., Amelia’s (Johnson Family Home Place)-Tallapoosa

Mary Tolleson opens her family home place to give everyone a “refresher” course in etiquette and manners! This evening’s class is for adults 18 and over please. Call Mary at 770.574.7193 to reserve a place at the table!

Seems the 4H presentation today has been canceled and the BHPL is closed. We have decided NOT to open the exhibit today due to icy roads and extremely cold temperatures.

Etiquette and Manners” classes, Sat. January 9, 10:00 a.m. – Noon (Ages 8-12) Amelia’s (Johnson Family Home Place)-Tallapoosa

Mary Tolleson will give basic etiquette and manners instruction to children ages 8-12. Call Mary at 770.574.7193 to reserve a place at the table!

Toddler Day”, Mon., January 11, 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., Historic Courthouse-Buchanan

The exhibit will open just for toddlers and their parents to view at their leisure. Afterwards, Branch Librarian Jana Gentry reads “Green Eggs and Ham”!! Exhibit will open to the general public at 1:00 p.m. POC: Historic Courthouse 770.646.3369


Senior Day”, Wed., January 13, 10:00 a.m. – Noon, Historic Courthouse-Buchanan

The exhibit will open just for seniors age 55+ to view at their leisure. Dr. Ann McCleary with the University of West Georgia’s Center for Public History presents “Curator’s Talk: Tales from the kitchens of Georgia” which will discuss the Center’s award-winning catalog “Food, Family, and Community: A Collection of Georgia Memories”. Cooking Demonstration & Cookbook Swap, Sat., January 16, 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m., “Buchanan Room” West Georgia Technical College-Waco (detailed flyer online here.)

Come help us celebrate the Budapest Community and its immigrants by sampling several authentic Hungarian dishes!! Copies of the recipes will be available. Bring your “unwanted” cookbooks and swap them for someone else’s “unwanted” ones!! POC: Karen Higgins 678.644.0743

Hunting as a source for food and clothing”, Sat., January 30, 10:00 a.m., West Georgia Museum-Tallapoosa

Local author, entertainer and taxidermist Bud Jones discusses how, in the past, hunting was a source for food and clothing. View the local exhibits on display at the museum while you are there! Admission to museum is $2.00. POC: Ann Crim 678.378.3795

BBQ Cook-off, Sat., February 6, 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m., Wright Way BBQ-Bremen

Come enjoy the various BBQ flavors from local restaurants and backyarders!! Judges will award top 3 places in both “Best Restaurant” and “Best Backyarder” categories. Attendees will vote for “People’s Choice”! Admission is $5.00 for “all you can sample”. POC: Frank McIntire 770.827.7981
