Confederate Soldier: W. W. Goodman aka W. W. Goodwin Pension Application Number 34303 and 4443 Died Sept 30, 1919 Applied for Confederate Soldier's Pension on Jan. 9, 1917 while residing in Kildare, Cass Co., TX Stated he was born in Harris Co., Ga near Chipley, GA and had lived in Kildare, Cass Co., TX for 47 years, since 1870. Served for 18 months with co. A., 4th Ga Infantry Reserves. His unit was organized at Andersonvile, Ga He enlisted June 18, 1864 and was discharged May 10, 1865. On some of his military records he is listed as "Goodwin." W. J. Dunlap stated that he served with W. W. Goodman and that Goodman mustered out in May 1865. War Department , The Adjutant General's Office, Washington June 5, 1915 Respectfuly returned to the Commissioner of Pensions, State of Texas, Austin The records show that W. W. Goodman (surname also borne as Goodwin), private, Company A, 4th Regiment Georgia Reserves, C.S.A. enlisted June 18, 1864. On the company roll dated December 31, 1864 (last on file), he was reported absent, furloughed October 24, 1865, for twenty days; now absent without leave. No later record of him was found. Sig. H. P McClain, the Adjutant General W.W. Goodman replied to inquiry about his absence without leave in a letter to Hon. J. C. Jones, Austin Texas, dated June 29, 1917 "Dear Sir: Replying to your letter of June 23, will say that I was on a 20 day furlough and while at home with measles I took typhoid fever and was away from the army about two monts but I had Dr. Galespie our family physician to send in a certificate that I was sick but I don't know whether it every got to the captain of the army or not. I reported back to my company about the 1st of January 1865. And there was nothing said to me about being absent. Now if this is not sufficient evidence to make the matter clear to you, I can get the affidavits of two of three ladies of the community to the truthfulness of the above statements. If it is necessary kindly so advise me and I will send them to your. Yours very truly, W.W. Goodman H. A. Turner, of 1895 Grand Ave., Beaumont, Tx, son-in-law of W. W. Goodman Wrote to J. C. Jones, Austin, TX on 10-14-1919 Dear Sirs, This is to notify the Pension Depart of the death of Mr. W. W. Goodman #34303 who was struck by a train near Atlanta , Texas Sept. 30 (1919) having been there making arrrangement to attend the Reunion oat Atlanta, Ga. And this is a claim for the sume of $30.00 funeral expenses as per the agreement of the Pensions law. Am enclosing statement form the Dr. who attended the case. If any other arrangements nessary in this matter, please notify me and I shall comply as you wish. Yours Truly, H.A. Turner, Son-in-law of the deceased. Certificate of the Undertaker, R.S. Allday Supply Co., By N. P. Hanner that in the town of Atlanta, County of Cass, State of Texas, that I had charge of the body of W. W. Goodman, State of Tex and town of Queen city, County of Cass, State of Texas, who died in the town of Queen City, County of cass, State of Tex on the 30 day of September 1919. Tht said body was buried in the Kildare Cemetery, which is located in the County of Cass, State of Tex and that I am of the opinion that warrant herein applied for should be issued to the said > H.
