DEED DATED JAN 23, 1812 

BETWEEN JOHN AND REBECAH GRIGGS AND WILLIAM GRIGGS

This indenture made this 23rd day of January in the year of our Lord 1812 between 
John Griggs & Rebecah Griggs his wife of the county 
& state aforesaid of the one part, and Wm. Griggs of the said state 
& county aforesaid of the other part, witnesseth that the said John 



Griggs & Rebecah his wife for an in consideration of the sum of twelve hundred dollars to them in hand paid before the 
sealing & delivering of these presents, the receipt 
whereof is hereby acknowledged hath bargained & sold & by these 
presents doth bargain, sell, release and coming unto the 
said William Griggs, his heirs, executors & administrators all them 
two tracts of land containing two hundred & fifteen 
acres & one fourth, be them more or less situate lying & being in 
the county aforesaid, on the waters of Fort Creek, 
butting and bounding as follows (viz) the first described 
tract of two hundred acres beginning on a pine running N 40 W thirty 
seven chains & twelve links to a Black Oak, thence S 
50 W fifty three chains & sixty two links to a Hickory, thence S 40 
E thirty seven chains & twelve links to a Spanish Oak, 
thence N 50 E fifty three chains & sixty two links to the beginning, 
one other tract of fifteen acres and one fourth 
beginning on a Red Oak running N 60 S twenty four chains & fifty 
links to a pine thence N 88 W twenty two chs. & eighty links to a 
Spanish Oak, thence S 7 E thirteen chs. & forty links to 
the beginning bounded Northeastwardly by Brown's land, 
Northwestwardly by Wm. Griggs, southwestwardly by Rodom 
Griggs & southeastwardly by Polly King's land, to have and to hold 
the said two tracts or parcels of land, with all and 
singular the rights, member & appurtenances thereunto belonging or 
in any wise appertaining unto the said William Griggs, 
his heirs & forever in fee simple, and the said John Griggs & 
Rebecah his wife for themselves, their heirs, executors, 
administrators or asigns doth covenant & agree to & with the 
said William Griggs, his heirs & to warrant & forever defend the 
aforesaid tracts or parcels of land against the first claim or claims of all 
person or persons whatsoever.

seals the day & year first above written.

personally appeared James Arthur and being duly sworn saith that he 
saw John Griggs and Rebekah Griggs his wife duly 
sign, 
seal and deliver the above mentioned Deed of Conveyance for the use 
and therefore above mentioned, and that he also saw 

Joseph Pritchett and James Griggs duly sign their names as witness 
thereunto. Sworn to before me this 24th of January 1812.
