The 1830 Census for Hall County, GA named Heads of Households and counted members of the household without differentiating between family members, relatives, visitors, boarders and so on.  The census also counted slaves by sex and age group and free colored people by sex and age group. Within those groups information was taken about whether members of the household had disabilities involving blindness, deafness, and ability to speak. There is also a column to count the number of people in the household who are alienst. The groups below are of free white males and females by the following age groups:

Column 1 Under five years old Column 8 Of fifty and under sixty
2 Of five and under ten 9 Of sixty and under seventy
3 Of ten and under fifteen 10 Of seventy and under eighty
4 Of fifteen and under twenty 11 Of eighty and under ninety
5 Of twenty and under thirty 12 Of ninety and under one hundred
6 Of thirty and under forty 13 One hundred and up
7 Of forty and under fifty

When slaves or free persons of colored are in the household, the age groups are:

Column 1 Under ten years old Column 4 Of thirty-six and under fifty-five
2 Of ten and under twenty-four 5 Of fifty-five and under one hundred
3 Of twenty-four and under thirty-six none 6 One hundred and up

There are only two households with free colored people in Hall County on this census and they are not named as none are Heads of Households. They are found on pages 132 in Uriah Hubbard's household and 134 in Mary Pugh’ s household. Because it is often helpful to the researcher to know the names of people living next to or close to your ancestor, this transcription is by page and not in alphabetical order. I checked my transcription against the 1830 index as a means of proofreading the names. When I disagreed with the index, I placed my transcription in parentheses. I suggest searching this page using the “ FIND” function (ctrl-F)  when looking for specific names. Just keep in mind that names were often spelled phonetically and weren’ t always the modern spelling. Further proofreading and/or corrections would be welcomed.

On the microfilm roll, pages 1-66 are for Habersham County, GA.
