Ketron, Irenus

Mr. Irenus Ketron, a son of Mrs. Rose Ketron, of Gainesville, died at Bakersfield California, Sunday at 6 p.m. of pneumonia.  He had been in the west for several years and was engaged in the oil refining industry.  He is survived by his mother and the following brothers and sisters: Marrin, who lives in the west, Harold W., of Washington, D.C., Peyton, of Texas, Clyde, of Oklahoma, Grover, of CA, Mrs. H. M. Cooper and Miss Ruby Ketron of this city.  Funeral and temporary interment was held at Bakersfield Cali. yesterday.  The sympathy of friends is extended to the bereaved family. --The Gainesville News

Kimmell, Willie Mae Bramblett
Funeral services for Willie Mae Bramblett Kimmell, 81, of Taylors, S.C., were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 13, at First Assembly of God, Greenville, S.C., with burial in Woodlawn Memorial Park.  Mrs. Kimmell died Thursday, Jan. 9, 2003.  Born in Demorest, she was the daughter of the late Earnest and Lorena Jordan Bramblett. She was a member of First Assembly of God.  Survivors include her husband, Paul Kimmell of Taylors, S.C.; daughters, Gloria Isreal of Mauldin, S.C., Mary Mills of Simpsonville, S.C.; sons, Paul J. Kimmell and Robert Kimmell, both of Taylors, S.C., Raymond Kimmell of Pelzer, S.C., Wayne O. Kimmell of Easley, S.C.; sister, Eloria Bramblett Westbrook of Jacksonville, Fla.; brother, Buford Bramblett of Taylors, S.C.; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.  Woodlawn Funeral Home, Greenville, S.C., was in charge of arrangements.

Kinsey, Paul Edgar
Funeral services for Paul Edgar Kinsey, 72, of Cleveland were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 16, at Alexander’s Gateway Chapel Funeral Home. The Rev. Verner London, the Rev. Dennis Taylor and the Rev. Lester Haynes officiated, with burial in Mt. Vernon Holiness Church Cemetery in Habersham County.  Mr. Kinsey died Thursday, Feb. 13, 2003, at Kindred Hospital of Atlanta from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.  Mr. Kinsey was a native and lifelong resident of White County. He attended Mt. Vernon Holiness Church at the time of his death. He was employed with the Times of Gainesville as a route delivery person.  He was preceded in death by his brother, Clifford Kinsey; sisters, Mamie Tolbert, Lessie McCallister; and grandson, Randy David Bryan.  Survivors include his wife, Betty Kinsey of Cleveland; son and daughter-in-law, Daniel and Sue Kinsey of Cleveland; sons, Mitchell Kinsey and Boyd Kinsey, both of Cleveland; daughters and sons-in-law, Wanda and Harry Fussell of Cleveland, Brenda and Stanley Oliver of Clarkesville; brother, Clyde Kinsey of Cleveland; sisters, Alma Kinsey, Ethelene McCallister and Della Henderson, all of Cleveland; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.  Memorials may be made to Mt. Land, W. Quinton
Funeral services for W. Quinton Land, 82, of Cornelia were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 23, at Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel. The Rev. Terry Rice and the Rev. Jack Hardeman officiated with burial in Yonah Memorial Gardens. Mr. Land died Saturday, Dec. 21, 2002, at a personal care home. Born in Fulton County on July 17, 1920, he was the son of the late John Wesley and Ada Laura Smith Land. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Fletcher Land, Jake Land and Frank Land. Mr. Land was a U.S. Army World War II veteran, and prior to retirement was co-owner and manager of Sandy Springs Hardware. He was a member of Level Grove Baptist Church and a former member and deacon of Sentell Baptist Church in Atlanta. Survivors include his wife, Irene Sutton Land of Cornelia; daughter and son-in-law, Anita L. and Tommy Parker of Cornelia; son, Thomas Wesley Land of Atlanta; sister, Amanda Brackett of Decatur; grandchildren and spouses, Kelly R. Lanier, Florene Ansley
Funeral services for Florene Ansley Lanier, 62, of Barnesville, formerly of Cornelia, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 18, in the chapel of McGahee-Griffin & Stewart Funeral Home. The Rev. Ralph Smith will officiate, with burial in Yonah Memorial Gardens.  Mrs. Lanier died Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2003, at Christian Ministries Hospice, Griffin.  Born in Habersham County on July 3, 1941, she was the daughter of the late Robert Ansley. A homemaker, Mrs. Lanier loved to garden and listen to music. She was of the Baptist faith.  Survivors include her special friend, E.C. Bates of Barnesville; daughters, Mary Abernathy of Helen, Janice Wood of Flowery Branch; sons, Scott Ansley of Cleveland, Lonnie Giles of Cumming, Russell Giles of Marietta; mother, Alpha Edmonds Ansley of Cornelia; brothers, Robert Ansley of Cornelia, Otis Ansley of Rahway, N.J.; several grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.  McGahee-Griffin & Stewart Funeral Home, Cornelia, is in charge of arrangements. Lattanzi, A.D. Joe
Piedmont College lost its No. 1 fan and one of its biggest boosters Tuesday with the death of A.D. Joe Lattanzi, following a brief illness. Lattanzi, 72, lived in Smyrna, but his heart was never far from the college where he played baseball as a student and met his wife, Peggy (Oliver). Joe, as he was universally known, was president of the Piedmont Letter Club and a former president of the Alumni Association. He was inducted into the Piedmont Athletic Hall of Fame in 1981, and in 1990 he received the colleges Alumni Service Award. A Bronx, N.Y., native, Lattanzi was employed by the Cobb County Board of Education for 31 years at Campbell High School as an American history teacher, a coach and assistant principal. The Campbell baseball field recently was named in his honor. A scout for professional baseball teams, Lattanzi was a Navy veteran and a court bailiff for the Cobb County Court System. He was a member of the National Rifle Association, Smyrna American Legion Post No. 160, VFW Post No. 2681 in Marietta, Smyrna Golden K Club, and Smyrna First United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife; three sons, Joseph Dante Lattanzi of Smyrna, Ricci Oliver Lattanzi of Rome and Anthony Adair Lattanzi of Lula; one daughter, Gina Elvira Lattanzi of Germantown, Tenn.; one sister, Clara King of Calhoun; and seven grandchildren. Lawrence, Howard ‘Gray’
Funeral services for Howard “Gray” Lawrence, 58, of Baldwin were held at 3:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 14, at Damascus Baptist Church. The Rev. Gene Todd officiated, with burial in the church cemetery.  Mr. Lawrence died Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2003, at Habersham County Medical Center.  Born in Banks County on July 1, 1944, he was the son of the late Bush and Dora Ausburn Lawrence. He was preceded in death by his brothers, James Lawrence, Pete Lawrence and Rudolph Ausburn.  Mr. Lawrence was a former subcontractor with Gwinnett County and was a cattle farmer. He was a member of Damascus Baptist Church.  Survivors include his wife, Glenda Segars Lawrence of Baldwin; daughter, Christy Lawrence of Baldwin; son and daughter-in-law, Stanley Gray and Kristy Lawrence of Baldwin; sisters, Isabelle Goss of Danielsville, Latrelle Lawrence of Baldwin; half-sister, Ruby Carter of Carnesville; brothers, Dock Lawrence of Alto, Wayne Lawrence of Homer; and grandson, Kenneth Lawrence.  Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel, Baldwin, was in charge of arrangements. Long, Capt. Larry
Funeral services for Capt. Larry Long, 44, of Baldwin were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 11, at Level Grove Baptist Church. The Rev. Terry Rice and Chaplain Pat Duran officiated with burial in Yonah Memorial Gardens. Mr. Long died Friday, Aug. 9, 2002, at St. Josephs Hospital in Atlanta following a brief illness. Born in Stephens County on Nov. 9, 1957, he was a 1976 graduate of Habersham Central High School. He was a member of Level Grove Baptist Church, Cornelia Lodge No. 92 F&AM, the Mountaineer Shrine Club and Yaraab Temple in Atlanta. He was captain in charge of jail and road patrol with the Banks County Sheriffs Department with seven years of service. Mr. Long was preceded in death by his father, C.R. Long. Survivors include his wife, Kathy McEntire Long of Baldwin; mother and stepfather, Faye Newsome Long and Vermon Wright of Cornelia; daughter, Mary Long of Commerce; son, Billy Long of Baldwin; stepsisters, Joy Echols of Lula, Jane Davis of Ellenwood; brother, Ronnie Long of Cornelia; stepbrother, Richard Wright of Forest Park; and one grandchild. Lopez, Alejandro
Funeral services for Alejandro Lopez, 42, of Gainesville were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 20, at St. Mark Catholic Church, Clarkesville, with Father Luis Zarama officiating. Burial will be in San Andres Enguaro, M. Pio de Yuriria, GTO, Mexico.  Mr. Lopez died Thursday, Jan. 16, 2003.  Born in Sanenuaro, Mexico, on Oct. 5, 1960, he was the son of the late Otilio Lopez and Francisla Fernandez.  Survivors include his daughters, Rosi Lopez and Brenda Lopez, both of M. Lovell, Donnie Benfield
TRILBY, Fla. – Funeral services for Mrs. Donnie Benfield Lovell, 90, of Trilby, Fla., formerly of Clarkesville, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 16, at Hillside Memorial Chapel in Clarkesville. The Rev. Michael Rogers will officiate with burial following in the Flat Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in Rabun County.  Mrs. Lovell died Friday, Jan. 10, 2003, at a private nursing home in Zephyrhills, Fla., following an extended illness.  Born on Dec. 3, 1912, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bright Lovell.  Survivors include a son, Lewis Lovell, Groveland, Fla.; daughters, Lorene Foster, Trailacoochee, Fla., Evelyn Sullivan, Dade City, Fla., and Marie Lovell, Greenville, S.C.; brother, Clyde Benfield, Batesville; sister, Azelee Brewer, Marietta; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.  The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 15, at the funeral home.  Hillside Memorial Chapel, Clarkesville, is in charge of arrangements.

Lovell, Mildred McAllister
Funeral services for Mildred McAllister Lovell, 74, of Mt. Airy will be held at 2 p.m. today, Jan. 14, at Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel. The Rev. Richard Horne and the Rev. Connie Berry will officiate, with burial in Victory Baptist Church Cemetery.  Mrs. Lovell died Sunday, Jan. 12, 2003, at her residence following an extended illness.  Born in Habersham County on Nov. 9, 1928, she worked as a medical clerk with the Habersham Medical Group in Clarkesville for 29 years and was a member of Victory Baptist Church.  She was preceded in death by her father, Paul McAllister; husband, J. Earl Lovell; son, Ricky Lovell; and brothers, Eugene McAllister and Freddie McAllister.  Survivors include her mother, Pearl McConnell McAllister of Baldwin; daughter, Helen Lovell of Mt. Airy; daughter and son-in-law, Sandra L. and Doug Canup of Mt. Raymond Payne will officiate, with burial in Yonah Memorial Gardens.  Mrs. Lovell died Sunday, Feb. 9, 2003, at Stephens County Hospital.  Born in Rabun County on May 30, 1915, she was the daughter of the late Virgil Austin and Sallie Adeline Curtis Keener. Lynch, Louise Baugh Free
Funeral services for Louise Baugh Free Lynch, 101, of Lula, were held at 4 p.m. Friday, March 14, at Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel. The Rev. Scott Ledbetter officiated, with burial in Whitehall Baptist Church Cemetery.  Mrs. Lynch died Thursday, March 13, 2003, at a private nursing home.  Born in Hall County on Sept. 23, 1901, she was a homemaker and the oldest member of Whitehall Baptist Church. Maney, Jewell Pruitt Jr.
Funeral services for Jewell Pruitt Maney Jr., 62, of Oxford, Ala., formerly of Cornelia, will be held at 1 p.m. today, Dec. 13, at Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel. Dr. Robert Culver will officiate. Burial will follow in Yonah Memorial Gardens, with the Rev. William Cox officiating at graveside. Mr. Maney died Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2002. Born in Habersham County on Sept. 3, 1940, he was a graduate of North Habersham High School. Mr. Maney earned an associate’s degree from the University of Georgia. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served in the Vietnam War. Mr. Maney was an independent salesman and was a member of Greenbriar Baptist Church. Mangum, Gladys ‘Dell’
Funeral services for Gladys “Dell” Mangum, 74, of Gainesville, will be held at 11 a.m. today, March 14, at Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel. The Rev. Sanford Kimbrell will officiate, with burial in Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Gainesville.  Mrs. Mangum died Wednesday, March 12, 2003, at her residence following an extended illness.  Born in Floyd County on April 8, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Gilbert and Lydia Watkins McDougald and was preceded in death by her husband, James W. Mangum. Marcus, Audrey Estelle Nations
Funeral services for Audrey Estelle Nations Marcus, 73, formerly of Clarkesville, will be held at 2 p.m. today, Jan. 21, at Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel. The Rev. Bill Trotter and the Rev. Kenneth Pilcher will officiate, with burial in Amy’s Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, Clarkesville.  Mrs. Marcus died Sunday, Jan. 19, 2003, at her son’s residence in Williamston, S.C., following an extended illness.  Born in White County on Jan. 28, 1929, she was the daughter of the late James Harve and Sinda Elizabeth Ledford Nations. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfonzo Lee Marcus; son, Allen Marcus Jr.; brother, Floyd Nations; and sisters, Florabelle Pardue, Flonnie Herrin and Pauline Eller. Marcus, Phillip Grant
Funeral services for Phillip Grant Marcus, 34, of Clayton were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 22, in the chapel of Hunter Funeral Home. The Rev. Ronia Hunter officiated with burial in Rabun Memory Park with military honors. Mr. Marcus died Saturday, Dec. 21, 2002, at his home following an extended illness. Born in Rabun County on Oct. 20, 1968, he was a physician’s assistant and a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Wade R. Hunter. Martin, Ethelene Tomlin
Funeral services for Ethelene Tomlin Martin, 82, of Lula were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 24, at New Bridge Baptist Church. The Rev. W.A. Jenkins and the Rev. Jesse Savage officiated, with burial in the church cemetery. The Rev. Henry Barnes officiated at graveside. Mrs. Martin died Sunday, June 22, 2003, at her residence. Born in White County on Feb. 16, 1921, she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Lizzie Freeman Tomlin. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Franklin Martin. Mrs. Martin was a homemaker and a member of New Bridge Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her brother, Daniel Tomlin. Mattox, Gertrude Williams
Funeral services for Gertrude Williams Mattox, 88, of Cornelia were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 29, at Israel Christian Methodist Episcopal Church. The Rev. Brad Goss officiated, with burial in Level Grove Cemetery.  Mrs. Mattox died Saturday, Jan. 25, 2003, at Habersham County Medical Center.  Born in Columbus on Dec. 24, 1914, she was the daughter of the late Nettie and Dave Williams. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Pope Mattox.  Mrs. Mattox was a member of Israel C.M.E. Church.  Survivors include her daughters, Lattrella Scott, Charlie Mae Banks and Jean Gober, all of Cornelia, Sally Brown and Peggy Burgess, both of Alto; son, George W. Mauldin, Hubert Ray
Funeral services for Hubert Ray Mauldin, 77, of Baldwin were held at 2 p.m. Monday, July 29, at Whitfield Funeral Home, South Chapel. The Rev. Bill Trotter and the Rev. Jeff Tyler officiated with burial in New Birth Baptist Church Cemetery. Mr. Mauldin died Saturday, July 27, 2002, at his residence following an extended illness. Born in Paulding County on July 28, 1925, he was the son of the late George Washington and Allie Mae Bullock Mauldin. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Patricia Pauline Gailey; one grandchild; and one great-grandchild. Mr. Mauldin served in the National Guard and was retired from Schnadig Corporation with 30 years of service. He was a member of New Birth Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon. Funeral services for Martha Duncan Meaders, 57, of Alto will be held at 2 p.m. today, July 9, at Living Mission United Methodist Church. The Rev. Edwin Smith, the Rev. James Duncan and the Rev. Funeral mass for Juan Angel Medina, 5, of Alto will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 13, at St. Mark Catholic Church. Moore, Willie Mae Harris
Funeral services for Willie Mae Harris Moore, 85, of Toccoa were held June 16 at 2 p.m. at Zebulon Baptist Church, Toccoa. Burial was in the church cemetery. Mrs. Moore died Thursday, June 13, 2002, at Stephens County Hospital following an extended illness. She was the daughter of the late Henry and Bessie Harris of Mt. Airy. She was preceded in death by her husband, Otis Moore; son, Bill Moore; and brothers, Odell Harris, Ernest Harris, Joe Harris. Mrs. Moore and her husband were owners of Moore’s Food Market in Toccoa for many years. She was a member of Zebulon Baptist Church. Moreland, Ilene Hollomon
DEMOREST — Ilene Hollomon Moreland, 95, of Demorest, GA, formerly of Donalsonville, GA, died Sunday, October 1, 2006, at her residence following a brief illness. Mrs. Moreland was born on August 20, 1911, in Colquitt County , GA , to the late Freeman Hollomon and Lexie Snipes Hollomon. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Jack R. Moreland; one son, James Moreland; two sisters and three brothers. Mrs. Moreland was of the Methodist faith and was a homemaker. Survivors include one son, one sister, one brother, six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, October 4, 2006, at Kimbrell-Stern Funeral Directors with Rev. Zack Worsham and Rev. Edsel Young officiating. Funeral services for Sara Easterbrooks Murphy, 42, of Cornelia were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 30, in the chapel of McGahee-Griffin & Stewart Funeral Home. Father Dan Brown, the Rev. Blaine Walker and Father Doug Dailey officiated, with burial in Level Grove Cemetery.  Mrs. Murphy died Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2003, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center following an extended illness.  Born in Pennsylvania on Jan. 31, 1961, she was the lawn and garden manager at Wal-Mart, Cornelia, where she was employed for 13 years. Graveside services for E. O. Dr. Mac McCleskey, 99, of Clarkesville, formerly of Atlanta, were held at 3 p.m., Sunday, June 30, at Crestlawn Memorial Park. The Rev. Lendell Ainsworth officiated. Dr. McCleskey died Friday, June 28, 2002. A retired pharmacist, Dr. McCleskey owned and operated the Hemphill Ave. Pharmacy from 1925 to 1980. He was a 50-year member of the Georgia Pharmaceutical Association Honor Club, a 50-year member of the John Rosier Masonic Lodge and received a Certificate of Award from Mercer University for outstanding service in the field of pharmacy for 55 years. He was preceded in death by wives, Grace Light McCleskey and Cleva P. McCleskey. Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Kathleen and Dan Knight of Clarkesville; son and daughter-in-law, Gayle and Marianna McCleskey of Alpharetta; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. McIntire, Mary Gastley Wheeler

1923-April 5:  Tri-County Newspaper Mrs. Mary McIntire dies in Gainesville - Mrs. Mary McIntire, aged 84, died at Gainesville on last Sunday, April 1, 1923.  Her body was brought here last Monday and buried at Bethlehem Baptist Church, where she had been a member for the past fifty four years.  Mrs. McIntire was Miss Mary Gastley before marriage and a sister to Mr. T.J. Gastley and moved to this country from Germany with her parents at the age of seven years and like her brother and other relatives when she reached her adopted country she became a true and loyal American.  She was a (good) woman and highly respected by all.  She leaves nine children and a host of friends and relatives.  Submitted by Gila Ragan-Hoover

Nix, Randall R.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Etheleen Wilkins; and brother, Bernice Nix. Mr. Nix was a U.S. Army World War II veteran and was a member of Toccoa VFW Post #4346. He was manager of Sherwin-Williams Paint Store in Toccoa for 17 years, and retired after 17 years service as manager of the paint department of Stovall Building Supplies in Toccoa. He was a member of Hillside Baptist Church. Born in Lumpkin County on Aug. 1, 1909, she was the daughter of the late John and Alice Head Passmore. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Carl Dunagan and William T. Ohland; daughter, Jane Gaillard; son, Tommy Dunagan; and sister, Marie Chapman. Mrs. Ohland was employed for 46 years as a seamstress with Carwood Manufacturing Company in Winder. She was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church, Winder.
