David George Washington Loudermilk

David Washington Loudermilk was the second eldest son of Jacob and Mary Polly Washburn Loudermilk.  David was born July 30, 1837 in Habersham Co, GA and died Nov 3, 1862 in Mt. Jackson, Virginia.  He was married to Martha Caroline Rice who was the daughter of Jesse (Jepe) & Webbey Dooley Rice.  Caroline was born Jul 24, 1835 in Habersham Co, GA and died after 1910 in Habersham Co, GA.  Caroline is buried in an unmarked grave in the Loudermilk Cemetery in Habersham County, GA.  The children of David & Caroline are:

Mary Elizabeth Loudermilk born May 10, 1858; died Nov 24, 1935
George Houston Loudermilk born Jan 10, 1859; died Feb 15, 1944
Sarah Clomer Loudermilk born Sep 27, 1861; died Oct 13, 1932

David was one of 4 sons of Jacob & Mary Polly Washburn to join the Civil War in Company C, Phillips Legion, Habersham Rifles.  Three of his brothers survived the war and returned home.  David enlisted 7/1/1862 and died 11/3/1862 from pneumonia in the Mt. Jackson Confederate Hospital.  The hospital was located across the road from Our Soldiers Cemetery where David is buried.  The plaque on the monument at Our Soldiers Cemetery shows his death date as Jan 4, 1862; however, this date is incorrect and should be 11/4/1862 according to Civil War records.  Caroline Loudermilk drew David's confederate pension in Habersham County.
