Mrs. Ora Kate Barton Davis
Mrs. Ora Kate Barton Davis,
69, of 400 Linda Lane, Calhoun, died Wednesday (August 14,
1985) at 3:30 a.m. at the Hamilton Medical Center in Dalton,
following a brief illness. Mrs. Davis was born in Gordon
County, October 19, 1915, a daughter of the late Haney W.
Barton and Elizabeth Sloan Barton. She was a lifetime resident
of Calhoun and Gordon County. Mrs. Davis was a member of the
Mt. Zion Baptist Church and before retirement was associated
with the Gordon County Training Center. She was married to the
late Earl Davis, who died in 1966. Survivors include, daughter
and son-in-law, Carolyn and Jerry Jackson of Calhoun; son and
daughter-in-law, Donald and Myrtle Davis of Calhoun; a sister,
Mrs. Nollie Barton Davis of Resaca; two grandsons, Keith Davis
of Dalton and Ken Davis of Calhoun; two sisters-in-law, Mrs.
Lucille Barton of Resaca and Mrs. Fannie Barton of Calhoun;
and several nieces and nephews. Funeral was Friday at 4 p.m.
from the Mt. Zion Baptist Church with Revs. Leroy Whitfield
and Clifford Free conducting the service. Pallbearers
included, Hubert Long, Quinton Haynes, John Barton, L.C.
Davis, Robert Bennett, and Avis Allen. Interment was in Mt.
Zion Cemetery with Rev. James Wells in charge of graveside
rites.

Donald Davis
Mr. Donald Earl Davis, 55, of
191 Holly Drive, Calhoun, died Sunday morning, January 1,
1995, at Gordon Hospital, following an extended illness. He
was born in Gordon County on August 15, 1939, son of the late
Earl and Ora Kate Barton Davis, and had spent his entire life
in Gordon County. He was of the Baptist faith and prior to ill
health was associated with Harbinger Company of Calhoun. He
was preceded in death by a son, James Randall Davis, in 1964.
Survivors include his wife, Myrtle Callahan Davis, to whom he
was married August 15, 1958; two sons and daughters-in-law,
Keith and Cindy Davis of Calhoun and Ken and Jackie Davis of
Kennesaw; a sister and brother-in-law, Carolyn and Jerry
Jackson of Calhoun; four grandchildren; and several cousins.
Funeral was Tuesday, January 3, at 2 p.m. from Mt. Zion
Baptist Church, with Revs. Jack Baker and Leroy Whitfield
officiating. Interment was in Mt. Zion Cemetery. The Owens
Family provided music for the service. Pallbearers were Tim
Roe, Bruce Hensley, Hubert Long, Bobby Mathis, Michael Suggs,
David Baker, Richard Dixon, Billy Jackson, Rick Holcomb,
Robert Bennett, Lee Shipman. Clifford Free Funeral Home of
Calhoun was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Rachel Davis Fuller
Combs Funeral Home announces
the death of Mrs. Rachel Davis Fuller, age 50, of Calhoun who
passed away in the Gordon Hospital, Monday morning, May 4, at
7:15 a.m. following several months of illness. She was a
member of the Evergreen Baptist Church. She is survived by her
husband, Bill Fuller of Calhoun; one son, Max Lamar Greeson of
Calhoun; one grandson, Eddie Dean Greeson; father, Clem Davis,
Route 1, Resaca; one brother, William Clyde Davis of Resaca. A
brother, Earl Davis, preceded her in death three years ago.
Several nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services for
Mrs. Fuller were held Wednesday afternoon, May 6, at 4 p.m.
from the chapel of the Combs Funeral Home with the Rev. Joe
Garrett, the Rev. J.B. Kirby and the Rev. Raymond Edwards
officiating. Burial was in the Fain Cemetery. Active
pallbearers were William Clyde Davis Jr., L.C. Davis, Lamar
Davis, Donald Davis, Jerry Jackson and J.D. Addy. Honorary
pallbearers were James Coggins, Zeb Casey, Buddy Bagley, Ricky
Kirby, Ben Blankenship, Marshall Wyatt, G.W. Shaw, Grady
Bagley, Hughdon Davis and W.P. Hunt.

Mr. Ralph Greeson
Mr. Ralph Greeson, 63, of
Route 6, Calhoun, died Sunday morning at the residence,
following a heart attack. Mr. Greeson was born August 25,
1914, a son of the late Lon and Mollie Childs Greeson. He was
employed by the O'Jay Mills of Calhoun, was a member of
Evergreen Baptist Church and the Red Carpet Cattlemen's
Association. Mr. Greeson is survived by a son, Max Lamar
Greeson of Calhoun; a grandson, Eddie Dean Greeson;
stepmother, Mrs. Rosetta Greeson of Calhoun; four sisters,
Mrs. Winnie Langston, Mrs. Emma Bowling, Mrs. Nancy Holland
and Mrs. Ruth Smith, all of Calhoun; a brother, Aubrey Greeson
of Calhoun; half-brother, Talmadge Greeson of Calhoun; and
several nieces and nephews. Funeral was Tuesday at 2 p.m. from
the Bradley Anderson Memorial Chapel of Max Brannon and Sons,
with Marlin Holcomb officiating. Graveside services were
conducted by Rev. Harold Quarles. Active pallbearers serving
included, Charlie Gentry, Clell Gentry, Robert Holland, Larry
McBee, Marvin McBee and J.B. Hunter. Honorary pallbearers
serving included, Billy Parker, Eugene Silvers, Jim Long, Lee
Holmes, Clyde Davis, Reynold Williams, Donald Davis, Raymond
Peeler, Ray Talley, Jack Smith, Ray Grogan, Vernard Holland
and Jimmy Holland. Burial was in Fain Cemetery.

Mrs. Annie Lucille Davis
Mrs. Annie Lucille Davis, 79,
of Route 3, Calhoun, died Thursday (Nov. 26) in the Gordon
Hospital, following an extended illness. Mrs. Davis was
born in Gordon County, May 20, 1902, a daughter of the late
Sam King and Fannie Porter King and had spent her entire life
in Calhoun and Gordon County. She attended the Craneater
Church of God. She was preceded in death by two
brothers, Boaz and Grady King, and two sisters, Mrs. Judith
Sanders, and Miss Ruby King. Survivors include one son, Ford
Davis of Route 5 Calhoun, one grandson, Dr. Larry Davis of
Route 5 Calhoun, one great-grandson, several nieces and
nephews also survive. Funeral services for Mrs. Annie Lucille
Davis were held Friday Nov. 27, from the Chapel of the Combs
and Free Funeral Home with Revs. Gordon Mize and Herman Timms
officiating. The Lee Hunt Quartet was in charge of the music
for services. Interment was in the Fain Cemetery.
Pallbearers include, Ralph Gaines, Roy Crowley, Bishop King,
Sammy King, Jack Mealor, and Steve Walraven. Combs and
Free Funeral Home of Calhoun was in charge of the arrangements
for Mrs. Annie Lucille Davis.

Ford Davis
Mr. Henry Ford Davis, 73, of
649 Amakanata Road, Calhoun, a well-known Calhoun businessman,
died Wednesday, Jan. 15, 1997, at 9:49 a.m. at Hamilton
Medical Center in Dalton, following an extended illness.
He was born in Gordon County on July 27, 1923, son of the late
Rev. Roscoe Davis and Lucille King Davis. He had spent
his entire life in Gordon County, was a graduate of Red Bud
High School, and a member of Echota Baptist Church. He had
been involved in the grocery business for more than 50 years
in Calhoun and was the owner of Ford's Supermarket on
Oothcalooga Street from 1965 until his retirement.
Survivors include his wife, Maggie Taylor Davis of Calhoun; a
son, Dr. Larry Davis of Calhoun, a grandson, Jeffrey Davis of
Atlanta; and three stepgrandchildren, Greer, Will, and Emily
Ostuw, all of Calhoun. Funeral was Friday, Jan. 17, at 2
p.m. from Echota Baptist Church, with the Revs. Jimmie Timms
and Clifford Free officiating. Interment was in Fain
Cemetery. Kathryn and Raymond Quinn provided music for
the service. Pallbearers were Charles Fuquea, David
Honea, Steve Walraven, Johnny Edwards, Will Ostuw, Greg Hasty,
and Doug Hasty. Honorary pallbearers were Frank Hicks,
H. J. Robbins, Gus Cate, Grady Taylor, James Honea, Tommy
Upchurch, and Paul Haley. Clifford Free Funeral Home of

Mr. Bunyan D. (Bun) Davis
Mr. Bunyan D. (Bun) Davis, 88,
of Red Bud Road, Route 7, Calhoun, died Friday (May 21, 1982)
in Gordon Hospital, following an extended illness. Mr.
Davis was born in Murray County, Aug. 15, 1893, a son of the
late James and Julia Black Davis, and had spent the greater
part of his life in Calhoun and Gordon County. He was a
member the Antioch Baptist Church and was a retired farmer.
Mr. Davis was a veteran of World War I, having served with the
U.S. Army. He was a member of the American Legion.
Survivors include his widow, the former Miss Nancy Clifford
Free, to whom he was married Sept. 10, 1917; a son, Buddy
Davis of Calhoun; four daughters, Mrs. Dwinell (Doris) Owen,
Mrs. Merrell (Lois) Owen, Mrs. Spencer (Maxine) Talley,
and Mrs. Buddy (Jamae) Baker, all of Calhoun; a sister, Mrs.
Lucille Barton of Resaca; 11 grandchildren, 9
great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral
was Sunday at 3 p.m. from the chapel of Combs and Free Funeral
Home, with Rev. Clifford Free conducting the service.
Interment was in Fain Cemetery. Active pallbearers were
Don, Danny and Kenny Owen; Randall, Allen, Terry and Mark
Talley, Steve Baker and Russell Davis.

Mrs. Nancy Clifford Davis, 92,
of Route 7, Red Bud Road, Calhoun, died Wednesday at 1:15 a.m.
in the Cherokee Nursing Home, following a long illness.
Mrs. Davis was born in White County, May 26, 1895, a daughter
of the late Andrew Jackson Free and Melinda Cox Free, but had
spent the greater part of her life in Gordon County. She
was a member of the Toonight Church of God. Mrs. Davis
was preceded in death by her husband, Bunyan (Bun) Davis in
1982. Survivors include, son and daughter-in-law, Buddy
and Martha Davis of Calhoun; daughters and sons-in-law,
Merrill and Lois Owen, Mrs. Doris Owen, Rev. James and Maxine
Cobb, and Buddy and Jamae Baker, all of Calhoun; a brother,
Chester Free of Acworth; 11 grandchildren, 11
great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral was Thursday at 4 p.m. from the Combs Chapel of the
Clifford Free Funeral Home with Rev. Clifford Free conducting
the service. Pallbearers included, Steve Baker, Russell
Davis, Danny, Kenny and Don Owen, and Randall, Terry, Alan and
Mark Talley. Interment was in Fain Cemetery with Rev.
William Roberts in charge of graveside rites.

Mrs. Julia Lois Owen, 75, of
2913 Red Bud Road, NE, Calhoun, died Monday, March 4, 1996, at
her residence, following a brief illness. She was born
in Gordon County on June 17, 1920, daughter of the late Bunyan
D. Davis and Nancy Clifford Free Davis. She had spent
her entire life in Gordon County. She was a member of
Blackwood Springs Baptist Church and the
Amazona Stewart Circle where she served as the first
president. Before retirement, she was associated with O'Jay
Mills. She was preceded in death by a sister, Jamae
Baker. Survivors include her husband, John Merrill Owen;
a son and daughter-in-law, Don and Joyce Owen of Calhoun; a
brother, Buddy Davis of Calhoun; two sisters, Maxine Cobb and
Doris Owen, both of Calhoun; two grandchildren, Don Owen, Jr.
of Knoxville, TN, and Autumn Owen Waller of Atlanta; a great
grandson, Garren Owen of Knoxville; and several nieces and
nephews. Funeral was Wednesday, March 6, at 11 a.m. from
the Combs Chapel of Clifford Free Funeral Home, with Dr. John
Bledsoe and the Rev. Clifford Free officiating.
Interment was in Fain Cemetery. Pallbearers were Russell
Davis, Steve Baker, Danny Owen, Kenny Owen, Randall Talley,
Alan Talley, Terry Talley, and Mark Talley. Members of
the Amazona Stewart Circle served as honorary escort.

Mrs. Jamae Davis Baker, 56, of
Lance Road, Calhoun, died Thursday (Apr. 6, 1989) at Floyd
Medical Center in Rome, following a year of declining health.
Mrs. Baker was born May 6, 1932 in Cherokee County, a daughter
of the late Bunyan D. and Nancy Free Davis. She had
spent most of her life in Gordon County and was a member of
Antioch Baptist Church. Survivors include, her husband,
John H. (Buddy) Baker, to whom she was married for 39 years;
son and daughter-in-law, Steven J. and Patti J. Baker of
Calhoun; daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Robert (Bob)
Causey of Douglasville; a brother, Buddy Davis of Calhoun; 3
sisters, Mrs. Lois Owen, Mrs. Doris Owen and Mrs. Maxine Cobb,
all of Calhoun; 2 grandchildren, Chad Causey and Chuck Keener
Baker; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral was Saturday
(April 8, 1989) at 3 p.m. from the Antioch Baptist Church with
Revs.Charles Moulton and William Roberts conducting the
service. Singing was arranged by the Antioch Baptist
Choir. Pallbearers included, Sammy Oliver, Brian Baker,
Jerry Childs, Jerry Bearden, Steve Balliew, Donnie White and
Claude Frady. Interment was in Chandler Cemetery with
Rev. Gordon Mize in charge of graveside rites.

Mr. William C. (Bill) Davis,
82, of Route 3, Calhoun died at 9:35 p.m. Monday in Gordon
Hospital, following a period of illness. He was the son
of the late James M. and Julia Black Davis. He was
a retired farmer and a Baptist. He was preceded in death
by his first wife, Katie Beason Davis in 1966. Survivors
include his widow, Mrs. Quillie Thomas Davis of Calhoun; a
son, Hughdon Davis of Calhoun; a daughter, Mrs. J.D. (Pauline)
Baxter of Calhoun; four grandchildren, Reed Davis, Brock,
Jeffery and Brian Baxter; eight great-grandchildren; a
brother, Bun Davis of Calhoun; two sisters, Mrs. Rueben Poarch
of Calhoun, and Mrs. Lucille Barton of Resaca; step-sons,
Hazel Thomas of Villa Rica, R.D. Thomas, Jr. of Calhoun, and
Walter Lee Thomas of Calhoun; five step-daughters, Mrs. Ruben
Allen and Mrs. D.F. Phillips of Resaca, and Mrs. Stanton

Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Wednesday from the chapel of
Thomas Funeral Home with Rev. Ewell Hardman, Burt Vaughn and
Lee Hunt officiating. The Owens family was in charge of

Jeffery, and Brian Baxter; also Carlton Poarch and Timmy
Erwin.

Mrs. Quillie Evelyn Thomas
Davis, 88, of Calhoun, died Friday afternoon (Oct. 30, 1987)
in the Cherokee Nursing Home, following three years of
declining health. Mrs. Davis was born on Nov. 16, 1898
in Gordon County, a daughter of the late A.T.R. and Molly
Reddick Parsons. She was a member of the Mt. Pleasant United
Methodist Church at Red Bud. She was preceded in death
by her husband, R. D. Thomas, Sr. in 1965, to whom she was
married for 50 years; by W.C. (Bill) Davis in 1980, to whom
she was married for 12 years; and by two sons, Rev. Hazel
Thomas and Troy R. Thomas. Survivors include, five
daughters, Mrs. A.R. (Earlene) Allen of Resaca, Mrs. Stanton
(Mary Jo) Erwin, Mrs. D.F. (Janelle) Phillips, Mrs. Jackie
White and Mrs. S.L. (Helen) Tate, all of Calhoun; two sons,
R.D. Thomas, Jr. of Calhoun, and Walter L. (Peanut) Thomas of
Columbus, Ohio; step-daughter, Mrs. J.D. (Pauline) Baxter, and
a step-son, Hughdon Davis, both of Calhoun; two sisters, Mrs.
Lucille Hardy and Mrs. Jo Ella French, both of Calhoun; two
brothers, D.C. Parsons and Clyde Parsons, both of Calhoun;
32 grandchildren, 66 great-grandchildren, 32 great-great-granchildren
and several nieces and nephews. Funeral was Sunday (Nov.
1, 1987) at 3 p.m. from the Mt. Pleasant United Methodist
Church at Red Bud with Revs. Billy Thomas and Fred Goodwin
conducting the service. Singing was arranged by the Owens
family and Terry Phillips. Rev. Gordon Mize was in charge of
graveside rites, and pallbearers included, Johnny Frix, Ray
Erwin, Larry Phillips, Randy Erwin, Mike Thomas, Eddie Thomas
and Reuben Allen, Jr. Honorary pallbearers included,
Hughdon Davis, Fred Reddick, Jimmy French, Danny Erwin, Timmy
Erwin, Sammy Phillips, Garry Phillips, Richard Thomas, J.D.
Baxter and Tommy White. Interment was in the Mt. Pleasant
Cemetery.

Mr. Hughdon W. Davis
Mr. Hughdon W. Davis, 68, of
Dews Pond Road, Calhoun, died unexpectedly Monday, July 18,
1988, at his residence. He was a son of the late William
C. and Kate Beason Davis, and husband of the former Miss
Pauline Owens. He was also preceded in death by a
sister, Louise Davis. He was a lifetime resident of
Gordon County and a graduate of Red Bud High School. He
was a Baptist and a member of the Oothcalooga Masonic Lodge
No.154. Also the local VFW and American Legion Units and
was a veteran of World War II. He had formerly served as
Gordon County sheriff for 16 years, two years as a juvenile
officer, and was presently serving as chief of police of the
city of Calhoun, with 12 years of service. Survivors
include, his widow, Mrs. Pauline Owens Davis of Calhoun; son
and daughter-in-law, Reed and Anita Davis of Calhoun; a
sister, Mrs. J. D. Baxter of Calhoun; two grandchildren, Brent
Evan Davis and Charlin Opal Davis, both of Calhoun; two
stepbrothers, R.D. Thomas, Jr. of Calhoun and Walter Lee
Thomas of Ohio; five stepsisters, Mrs. Reuben Allen,
Mrs. S.L. Tate, Mrs. Stanton Erwin, Mrs. Jackie White and Mrs.
D.F. Phillips, all of Calhoun. Funeral will be at 4 p.m.
Monday (July 25, 1988) from the First Baptist Church of
Calhoun with Dr. Bert Vaughn and Rev. LeRoy Whitfield
conducting the service. Coleman Balliew, Charles
McDearis and Juanita Davis will have charge of music.
Pallbearers will include, Carlton Walraven, Howard Holbert,
Sid Roberts, Lee Hunt, George Hayes, Judge Jere F. White,
Junior Thomas, Everette DeFoor, Larry Evans and Ford Davis.
They are asked to meet at the funeral home at 2:30 p.m.
Monday. Honorary pallbearers include, Tom Shanahan, Doug
Hite, Frank Dickinson, John Slagle, Clifford Free, Ken Patton,
E.M. Whitfield, Calhoun City Police Dept., Mayor, Council and
employees of the city of Calhoun; Gordon County
Sheriff's Dept.; Georgia State Patrol, GBI and FBI. They
are asked to meet at the church at 3:30 p.m. Monday. The
body of Mr. Davis will lie in state from 3 to 4 p.m. Monday at
First Baptist Church preceeding the funeral. Until that
time it will remain at Thomas Funeral Home. Interment
will be in Fain Cemetery.

Mr. Reuben Alonzo Poarch, 88,
of Route 3, Red Bud Road, Calhoun, died at 1:35 p.m. Saturday
(Jan. 17, 1987) in Gordon Hospital, following four weeks of
declining health. Mr. Poarch was born in Gordon County, Feb.
1, 1898, a son of the late Alonzo (Lun) and Mollie Jones
Poarch. He was a retired farmer and was a Baptist.
Mr. Poarch was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Olga Lee
Davis Poarch in 1981; two daughters, Mrs. Shirley Gentry in
1980 and Mrs. Mary Lou Chapman in 1986; and a son, Carlton
Poarch in 1986. Survivors include, three daughters, Mrs.
Dorothy Ellis, Mrs. Johnnie McFarland and Mrs. Sue Johns, all
of Calhoun; four sons, Floyd Poarch, Reuben Poarch, Jr.,
Jack Poarch and Bobby Poarch, all of Calhoun; 36
grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren and two
great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral was Monday (Jan. 19, 1987) at 2 p.m. from the
Craneater Church of God with Revs. Gordon Mize and A. W.
Brummett conducting the service. The Owens Family was in
charge of music. Grandsons served as pallbearers and included,
Terry Poarch, Larry Dodd, Roy Chapman, Wayne McFarland,
Charles Poarch, Roger Johns, Darrel Poarch, Jack Poarch, Jr.
and Steve Poarch. Honorary pallbearers included, Bradley
Eads, J. W. Haygood, Glenn Crowe, Raymond Quinn, Buddy Baker,

Mr. Carlton L. Poarch
Mr. Carlton L. Poarch, 65, of
Route 3, Calhoun, died at 7 o'clock Sunday morning (Nov. 23,
1986) in Hamilton Medical Center of Dalton, following one year
of illness. Mr. Poarch was born on Feb.16, 1921 in
Gordon County, a son of Reuben Poarch, and the late Olga Lee
Davis Poarch, who died Oct.1, 1981. He was a member of
Craneater Church of God; was a veteran of the U. S. Army
having served during World War II, and was retired from being
owner/operator of Poarch Grocery on the Red Bud Road.
Survivors include, his widow, Virginia Sparks Poarch, to whom
he was married for 45 years; three daughters, Mrs. Barbara
Bishop, Mrs. Carol Wilson and Miss Desha Poarch, all of
Calhoun; four sons, Terry, Sammy, Ricky and Chuck Poarch, all
of Calhoun; father, Reuben Poarch of Calhoun; three sisters,
Mrs. Dorothy Ellis, Mrs. Sue Johns and Mrs. Johnnie McFarland,
all of Calhoun; four brothers, Floyd, Junior, Jack and Bobby
Poarch, all of Calhoun; 15 grandchildren, one great-grandchild
and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Poarch was preceded
in death by a son, Carlton Eugene Poarch on March 30, 1943;
two sisters, Mrs. Shirley Gentry on Feb. 8, 1980 and Mrs. Mary
Lou Chapman, who died the evening before, Nov. 22, 1986.
Funeral was Tuesday at 3 p.m. from the Craneater Church of God
with Revs. Gordon Mize and A.W. Brummett conducting the
service. Pallbearers included, J.D. Baxter, Hughdon Davis,
Dewitt Everett, Eddie Gentry, Eddie Watkins, Billy Davis,

Miss Jennifer N. Poarch, 21,
of 1943 Rome Road S.W., Calhoun died Thursday, July 16, 1998
from injuries received in a car-truck accident in Bartow
County. She was born Sept. 3, 1976 in Floyd County,
daughter of Sammy and Debbie Sutherland Poarch. She was
a student at Floyd College, was a beautician, and spent her
lifetime in Gordon County. She was a 1995 graduate of
Gordon Central High School, where she was a member of the
band, a cheerleader, Key Club, and Fellowship of Christian
Athletes. She was a member of the Elkettes and a member
of Victory Temple Church of God. Survivors include a son,
Kouper Heath Poarch Pasley of Calhoun; parents, Sammy and
Debbie Sutherland Poarch of Calhoun; two brothers, Jason Brent
Poarch and Samuel Allan Poarch, both of Calhoun; grandmothers,
Virginia Edwards of Adairsville and Clara Nell Sutherland of
Calhoun; and aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and fiance, Jason
Bone of Calhoun. Funeral was Sunday, July 19 at 3 p.m.
from Victory Temple Church of God, with the Revs. Jimmy Hogan,
Jeff Dutton, and Charles Green officiating. Music was
arranged by Bobby Sutherland. Interment was in the
family lot at Craneater Cemetery. Pallbearers were Andy

Mrs. Mary Lou Chapman, 63, of
128 Eighth St., Calhoun, died unexpectedly Saturday evening
(Nov. 22, 1986) at her residence, following a heart attack
suffered earlier. Mrs. Chapman was born in Gordon County
on Oct. 26, 1923, a daughter of Reuben Poarch and the late
Ogla Lee Davis Poarch who died Oct.1, 1981. She was a
retired textile employee and was a Baptist. A brother,
Carlton Poarch of Calhoun, died Sunday morning (Nov. 23,
1986); and she was preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Shirley
Gentry, Feb. 8, 1980. Survivors include, her husband,
L.O. Chapman of Calhoun; a daughter, Mrs. Betty Balliew of
Calhoun; two sons, Roy Lee and Troy Chapman, both of Calhoun;
three sisters, Mrs. Johnnie McFarland, Mrs. Sue Johns and Mrs.
Dorothy Ellis, all of Calhoun; four brothers, Jack, Bobby,
Junior and Floyd Poarch, all of Calhoun; four grandchildren,
one great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral was Tuesday (Nov.25, 1986) at 1 p.m. from the Echota
Baptist Church with Rev. Marvin Carr conducting the service.
Pallbearers included, Roy Glenn Dodd, David Poarch, Wayne

Mrs. Johnnie Mae McFarland,
72, of 113 Thomas St., Calhoun died Thursday, March 4, 1999 at
her residence. She was born in Gordon County on Sept.
26, 1926, daughter of the late Reuben and Ogla Lee Davis
Poarch. She was a retired employee of Mount Vernon
Mills, also known as the Echota Cotton Mill. She was
preceded in death by her husband, Roy McFarland, in 1996; four
sisters, Dorothy Ellis, Sue Johns, Shirley Gentry, and Mary
Chapman; and a brother, Carlton Poarch. Survivors
include a son and daughter-in-law, Wayne and Faye McFarland;
two grandsons, Jason McFarland of Fort Bragg, N.C.; and Daren
McFarland of Calhoun; four brothers, Jack Poarch, Floyd Poarch,
Junior Poarch, and Bobby Poarch, all of Calhoun; and several
nieces and nephews. Funeral was Saturday, March 6 at 2
p.m. from the Bradley Anderson Memorial Chapel of Max Brannon
& Sons Funeral Home, with the Rev. Phillip Anderson
officiating. Interment was in Chandler Cemetery, with
the Rev. Al Cunningham in charge of the graveside rites.

Mrs. Minnie (Sue) Johns, 64,
of the Reeves Community, Calhoun died Saturday evening,
Nov.11, 1995, at her residence, following several months of
declining health. She was born on Dec. 6, 1930, in
Gordon County, daughter of the late Reuben and Olga Lee Davis
Poarch. Before ill health forced her retirement, she was
employed by Jameson Inn. She was a member of Reeves
Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by two
sisters, Mrs. Mary Chapman and Mrs. Shirley Gentry; and a
brother, Carlton Poarch. Survivors include her husband,
James Glen Johns, to whom she was married for 49 years; a
daughter and son-in-law, Pat and Ralph Huie of Calhoun; a son
and daughter-in-law, Roger and Dorothy Johns of Calhoun; five
grandchildren, Robin Johns Blackman of Memphis, Tenn., Laura
Johns McMillan of Atlanta; Bree Huie of Carrollton; and Erin
Huie and Cody Johns, both of Calhoun; two sisters, Mrs.
Dorothy Ellis and Mrs. Johnnie McFarland, both of Calhoun;
four brothers, Jack Poarch, Junior Poarch, and Floyd Poarch,
all of Calhoun; and Bob Poarch of Resaca; and nieces and
nephews. Funeral was Monday, Nov. 13, at 11 a.m. in the
Bradley Anderson Memorial Chapel of Max Brannon & Sons Funeral
Home, with Rev. Jether Cochran officiating. Interment
was in Miller Cemetery. In lieu of flowers,

Mr. Danny Eugene (Donkey)
Poarch, 31, of 439 Langston Drive, N.E., died Thursday morning
(Sept. 7, 1989) from injuries received in an auto accident.
Mr. Poarch was born April 2, 1958, in Gordon County, a son of
Junior and Loretta Henson Poarch. He attended Red Bud
schools and was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of the
Calhoun VFW Post. He was employed as a welder with the
U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and was a member of New Town
Baptist Church. Survivors include, a son, Christopher
Chad Poarch of Calhoun; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Junior Poarch, a
sister, Miss Penny Poarch, and three brothers, David Poarch,
Darrell Poarch and Robin Poarch, all of Calhoun; grandmother,
Mrs. Bonnie Greeson of Calhoun; and several aunts, uncles,
nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral was at 2 p.m.
Saturday (Sept. 9, 1989) from the Bradley Anderson Memorial
Chapel of Max Brannon & Sons Funeral Home with Rev. Eddie
Brannon conducting the service. Music was arranged by

Mrs. Shirley Poarch Gentry,
age 42, of Gordon County, passed away in the local hospital
Friday morning, February 8, following one year of declining
health. She spent her lifetime in Gordon County, was an
active member of the College St. Church of God. She was
active in the Ladies Auxillary of V.F.W. For many years
she was employed at Crown Craft Textile Co. Survivors
include her husband Charles M. Gentry, Calhoun; three sons,
Lynn, Nevin and Tony Gentry all of Calhoun; parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Reuben Poarch, Calhoun; five brothers, Carlton Poarch,
Floyd Poarch, Junior Poarch, Jack Poarch, and Bobby Poarch all
of Calhoun; four sisters, Mrs. Dorothy Ellis, Calhoun, Mrs.
Mary Chapman, Mrs. Johnnie McFarland and Mrs. Sue Johns all of
Calhoun; and one grandchild. Funeral services were
conducted Sunday, February 10 at 3 p.m. from the chapel of
Thomas Funeral Home with the Revs. Gordon Mize, Les Connell
and Herman Timms officiating. Pallbearers serving were

Rev. Homer E. Davis, 72, well
known Baptist minister of Gordon County, died Wednesday
afternoon at Polk General Hospital, following a heart attack.
Rev. Davis was born Nov. 23, 1905, a son of the late James M.
and Julia Black Davis. He had pastored churches in
Gordon County and was a member of the Antioch Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Davis, Aug. 30,
1976. Rev. Davis is survived by his widow, Amanda Davis,
Calhoun; three daughters, Mrs. Patricia McGiboney of
Covington, Mrs. Kay Holden of Waynesboro, Va. and Mrs. Lynn
Rudeseal of Clermont; a son, Billy Davis of Utica, Mich.;
sisters, Mrs. Lucille Barton of Resaca and Mrs. Reuben Poarch
of Calhoun; brothers, Bunyan Davis and Bill Davis both of
Calhoun; eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, step
children, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral was
Friday at 2 p.m. from the Bradley Anderson Memorial Chapel of
Max Brannon and Sons, with Revs. James Braddy and Gordon Mize
officiating. Active pallbearers included, Carlton Poarch,
Brock Baxter, Jeffery Baxter, Bryan Baxter, Randall Talley,
Allen Talley, Michael Hunt and Furman Gravley. Honorary

Mrs. Amanda Lou Rickett Mason,
74, of Route 2, Calhoun, died at 8:15 a.m. Sunday in Hamilton
Memorial Hospital, following a period of illness. She
was a daughter of the late P.W. and Minnie Holland Stone of
Gordon County. She was retired from Georgia Textile for
over 20 years, was a member of the Mount Olive Baptist Church.
She had spent her entire life in Gordon County. She was
preceded in death by her husbands, Henry Rickett in 1961; Bob
Mason in 1976 and Rev. Homer Davis in 1978.
Survivors include a son, Odell Rickett of Calhoun; two
daughters, Mrs. Reba Cook and Mrs. Mamie Jo Williams of
Calhoun; a brother, Ernest Stone of Ramhurst; a sister Mrs.
Ruby Phipps Nowlan of Calhoun; nine grandchildren and three
great-grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted at
2 p.m. Tuesday, March 13, from the chapel of Thomas Funeral
Home, with Revs. Robert Hudgins and Richard Harkins
officiating. Mrs. Brenda Watkins was in charge of the
music. Interment was in Bethlehem Cemetery in
Sonoraville. Active pallbearers serving were Edward,
Orvin and Jesse Mac Clark, James Duke, Calvin Tate and Renia

Mr. George Winston Davis, 68,
of Resaca, died Saturday at 3:45 a.m. in a Rome Hospital,
following an illness of two weeks. Mr. Davis was born in
Gordon County, July 2, 1909, a son of the late James and Julia
Black Davis and had spent his entire life in Calhoun and
Gordon County. He was a member of the Mt. Zion Baptist
Church and prior to his retirement was associated with the
Glasrock Products Co. Survivors include his widow, the
former Miss Nollie Barton to whom he was married July 19,
1930, a daughter, Mrs. Jimmy Lou Davis Haynes of Calhoun; two
sisters, Mrs. Lucille Barton of Resaca; Mrs. Reuben Poarch of
Calhoun; three brothers, Bun, Bill and Rev. Homer Davis, all
of Calhoun; a granddaughter, Mrs. Shea Haynes of Calhoun and
several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were Monday at 3
p.m. from the Mt. Zion Baptist Church with Revs. Leroy
Whitfield and Gordon Mize officiating. Interment was in
the Fain Cemetery. Pallbearers serving included J.D.
Baxter, Hughdon Davis, Carlton Poarch, Junior Davis, Donald

Mrs. Nollie Davis
Mrs. Nollie Lou Davis, 87, of
Resaca died Monday, Aug. 17, 1998 at 9:40 a.m. at Calhoun
Health Care Center. She was born in Gordon County on
Dec. 13, 1910, daughter of the late Haynes Barton and
Elizabeth Sloan Barton. She had spent her entire life in
Gordon County. Before her retirement, she was employed
by Gordon County Schools as a lunchroom employee. She
was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church and was preceded in
death by her husband, George Davis, in November 1978.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Jimmy Lou and
Quentin Haynes; a granddaughter, and grandson-in-law, Sheae
and Jeffery Wyatt; and two great-grandsons, Jeremy and Josh
Wyatt. Funeral was Wednesday, Aug. 19 at 11 a.m. from
the Combs Chapel of Clifford Free Funeral Home, with the Revs.
David White and James Cobb officiating. Pallbearers were
Larry Petty, Jerry Jackson, Ken Davis, Keith Davis, Hubert
Long and Willard Barton.

Mrs. Jimmie Lou Haynes, 55, of
775 Ga. 53 S.W., Calhoun died Sunday, March 7, 1999 at 10:14
p.m., following several weeks illness. She was born in
Gordon County on May 28, 1943, daughter of the late George
Winston Davis and Nollie Lou Barton Davis, and had spent all
of her life here. She was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist
Church and was employed by Nell's Market on Highway 53.
Survivors include her husband, Quentin Haynes, Jr. of Calhoun;
a daughter, Pamela Sheae Wyatt of Calhoun; and two grandsons.
Graveside and interment services were conducted Tuesday, March
9, at 11 a.m. from Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, with the Rev. Brad
Dillard officiating. Pallbearers were Larry Cochran,
Eric Cross, Carl Cross, Larry Petty, Brian Baxter and Jerry
Jackson. Thomas Funeral Home of Calhoun was in charge of
