Stung to Death by Bees
Calhoun, Ga., May 5
Mr. Meshack Boaz
one of Gordon County's oldest settlers, and one among her most
respected citizens and progressive farmers, died at his home
in Sugar Valley district, yesterday evening, under very
peculiar circumstances and quite unexpected by himself and
family. Though a man advanced in years, being eighty six years
of age, Mr. Boaz was out on his farm, looking after his
farming interests. Yesterday morning he returned to the house
about the usual dinner hour, and upon arriving there found his
bees swarming. He undertook to hive them and was stung one
time on top of the head, from the effects of which he died
late in the evening. After receiving the sting the pain became
so intense that a physician was sent for, but upon his arrival
no seriousness was attached to the matter and he left. After
leaving Mr. Boaz became decidedly worse and the
physician was sent for again, but before his second arrival
Mr. Boaz was dead. He was walking about a short time
before his death, and had gone in and laid down on a lounge on
his back veranda, where he died shortly after laying down.
Mr. Boaz was the father of our fellow townsmen, B. G.
and N. J. Boaz, and of Captain J. G. Boaz, of
Atlanta, Ga.
