MR. O. P. BENNETT FORSYTH COUNTY MERCHANT PASSES (Died Oct 23, 1952)

Mr. O. P. Bennett, a well known merchant of Forsyth County passed away Friday morning October 24 at the home of his daughter Mrs. Earl Westbrook Mr. Bennett's health had been bad for some time. Funeral services were held Sunday, October 26 at Holbrook Methodist Church with Rev. B. L. Barton and Rev. Frank Ray officiating. Surviving are his wife and six children. GAINESVILLLE, Feb. 22 - Funeral services were held today for John D. Black Sr., 64, of Gainesville, former Forsyth County member of the Georgia house of Representatives, who died in Hall County Hospital Saturday after a sudden illness. A livestock dealer, affiliated with Black's Commission Co., he had lived in Gainesville for the past 12 years, moving here from Cumming. He was a graduate of North Georgia College and worked for a while as a banker in Dahlonega. In 1920, he moved to Cumming were he was in the livestock business. He was born in Dawson County. Mr. Black served three terms

  MR. JESS W. BRAMBLETT PASSED AWAY JANUARY, 19 (1951)

The hearts of relatives and friends were saddened at the passing of a beloved. citizen of this county, Mr Jess W. Bramblett after a short illness Friday night January 19. Mr. Bramblett would have been 80 years of age if he had lived a few weeks longer. He was a good christian man, a member of Friendship Baptist church and well loved by all who knew him. He is survived by his widow, one daughter, Mrs Otto Heard of Mari etta and one son, Mr. Grady Bramblett, a number of Grandchildren, brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews and a host of friends in his community, this county and elsewhere.We extend our deepest sympathy to all of these, we of the Forsyth County News count ourselves in that number who mourn his passing. Dr. R. H. Bramblett Life-long Resident Passes at His Home

Dr. Rader Hugh Bramblett, 66, lifelong resident of Forsyth County and family physician in this area since 1911, died Tuesday at his home near here after a long illness. Dr. Bramblett was deeply loved by many hundreds of families in this section of the State, whom he had served as physician and personal friend. He was engaged in active practice until 1950,when his final illness rendered him unable to work. He was a member of Friendship Baptist Church a member of LaFayette Lodge, No. 44, F. & A. M and Past Master of Redwine Lodge. No. 174, F. & A. M. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Ida Garrett Bramblett; a daughter, Mrs Clyde W. Bannister; a son, Dr. Rupert H. Bramblett, all of Cumming, two sisters, Mrs. Nettie Heard of Cumming; and Mrs Nora Holbrook Plant City, Florida; two brothers, W. C. Bramblett, Cumming; and T. A. J. A. Chadwick, Fire Victim, Laid to Rest

CANTON, Ga., July 2-Funeral services for Jonah A. Chadwick, 44, who died in the $1,500,000 Canton fire, were held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church in Cumming.  Officiating were the Rev. Paul Thompson, the Rev. Jay Bottoms and the Rev. J. T. Sewell. Burial was in the churchyard.  

Mr. Chadwicks body was recovered Friday.  He was a jig operator at the Cantex Co., a corduroy manufacturing plant which was one of the five businesses that burned.

Survivors include his wife, sons, Michael, Bill and Teddy Chadwick; mother, Mrs. B. M. Chadwick of Cumming; brothers, Amos Chadwick and Wilburn Chadwick, of Cumming and Weldon Chadwick of Atlanta; sisters, Mrs. Cliff Croy of Atlanta and Mrs. Eulas Dean Harris of Canton.(June 29, 1955)

Dr. Davison , Georgia Baptist Staff Chief, Dies  (Died Sept. 1953)

Dr. Thomas Callahan Davison, chief of staff at Georgia Baptist Hospital and a nationally known surgeon, died Thursday night at his home, 25 Valley Rd., NW. Funeral services will be held at 5 p. m. Friday at Spring Hill. Dr. Louie D. Newton and Dr. Monroe F. Swilley, Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Westview Cemetery. Although Dr. Davison had been in ill health for more than a year, he had been active until last month. He was 69. Dr. Davison was an honorary fellow of the International College of Surgeons, a former president of the American Goiter Association and a member of the founder's group of the American Board of Surgery. * * *

His Brother, Dr.Hal Davison, also is a prominent Atlanta physician. In addition to serving as chief of staff at Georgia Baptist Hospital, Dr. Davison was chief of surgical services at Grady and Georgia Baptist Hospitals, served as consultant to the Sheffield Cancer Clinic here and was an associate professor of surgery at the Emory University School of medicine. Born in Woodville, Ga. in 1883, Dr. Davison was graduated from the old Atlanta College of Physicians and Surgeons in 1906. He was one of Georgia Baptist Hospital's first interns, joining the staff when the hospital was known as Tabernacle Infirmary. At the outbreak of World War I, Dr. Davison was commissioned a captain in the Army Medical Corps. He taught the carrel  ???in method of treating wounds in the Army medical school in ? and later, at Walter Reed Hospital practiced the ?. (Unable to read majority of this paragraph)

 Mrs. Fannie Hurt Passes Friday, Oct., 19. (1951)

Mrs. Fannie Hurt, wife of the late Henry L. Hurt passed away October 19, at the home of her daughter Mrs. George McClure of near Ball Ground. She was a lifelong resident of Cumming, a devoted wife, mother and friend. She was a member of the First Baptist church, was active in the church until her health failed several years ago. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. George McClure, three sons, Henry Hurt of Ball Ground, Staff Sgt. Garland Hurt of Lancashire, England, Ottis Hurt of Atlanta, two brothers W. A. Hawkins and Wesley Hawkins of Cumming, one brother-In-law, M W. Webb of Atlanta, seven grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Mr. J. E. Kirby , Age 86  Cumming Resident  Passes Monday, Sept 24

The many friends of Mr. J.E. Kirby Will regret his passing away, which occurred at the home of his daughter, Mrs. L. C. Denson, on Eastern Heights, in Cumming, on Monday, September 24th. Mr. Kirby was a lifelong resident, of Cumming and Forsyth County. At one time he owned and operated a newspaper in Cumming, The North Georgian. He was eighty-six years old at his death. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. L. C. Denson, and Mrs. J. P. Fowler, both of Cumming. Four sons survive. They are R. E. Kirby of Cumming, J. H. Kirby, Tallahassee, Fla.; Thos. B. Kirby, Tampa, Fla.; John E. Kirby, Candler, Fla.; and one sister, Mrs. Effie McBrayer of Lavonia, Ga., and a large group of grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Mr. George L. Merritt, age 80, retired businessman passed away unexpectedly following a heart attack at his home here Tuesday afternoon around 3:30. Rev. Patterson, Prominent Methodist Minister Passes Sunday (1952)

Final rites were held, Monday September 22, at St. Paul Methodist church Gainesville, for Rev. D. S. (Doc) Patterson, a retired minister who preached for 30 years in Georgia.  Rev. Patterson died Sunday morning at his home in Gainesville, at the time of his death, he was serviing Brookton Charge as supply Pastor.  He served Cumming Charge as Supply Pastor last year, even tho he was on retired list.  Both Rev. Patterson and his wife, the former Miss Elender Childers, were born in Forsyth County.   Surviving are his wife, the former Miss Elender Childers; two sons, Milton of Cumming and Pierce of Canton; four daughters, Mrs. W. MRS. JOHN L. (Mabelle) PHILLIPS (1951)

The passing of Mrs. John L. (Mabelle Phillips February 28, marked the earthly end of one of the best women who ever lived in the county. Having been born and lived most of her life in this section, she was well known and genuinely loved by all who knew her. She was a devoted wife, a great christian, one who like her Savior went about doing good. She honored the Lord with what she was and what she had all her life. She believed in putting the Kingdom first and as is mentioned in Proverbs 31:18, "Her candle goeth not out by night". Again "she choose the good part that was not taken away from her." She was saved early in life and devoted all the remainder of her years in serving Him whom she trusted for her salvation and to whom she had committed all things against that day. She taught in the Sunday School of the First Baptist Church, the church of her membership until the end, for more than forty years. A marvelous record. But not just a record and not just filling the place, but she led many to Christ by her teaching and Godly life. She fought a good fight, she kept the faith to the end, she finished her course and won the crown of righteousness. She knew for some time that her days were few and told many of us that she was not only ready but anxious for the summons, and had all things in readiness. She had planned her funeral hymns and all details with full instructions as to her burial, which was carried out just as she had directed at her church March 1st, and her body interred at Friendship cemetery besides her husband who proceeded her by several years. Mrs. Ben P. Roper (June 24-1951)

Mrs. Ben Roper passed away Sunday June 24, at her home after a long illness, she was 80 years of age the daughter of the late W. Newton and Sadie Tribble. Mrs. Roper had been a member of Friendship Baptist Church for almost sixty years. At the time of Mr. Ben Roper's death in 1943, they had been married 48 years, Mr. Roper was a very prominent merchant and well remembered for other activities in the Business world. Harold Shoemake , Age 18, Accidentally Killed Sunday Night (?day, June 4th 1953)

Mr. Charles Harold Shoemake, 18 and employee of the State Department of Education in Atlanta died at Grady Hospital at 3:02 a. m. Monday as a result of head injuries. He was hurt at 12:40 a. m. in a wreck on U. S. Highway 19 at the intersection of Elkins road, according to Northside unincorporated area police. The car in which the youth was riding crashed into a culvert. Willie Durham, age. 19, a close friend and neighbor was riding with him.

He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs Guy Shoemake of cumming, one brother, Mr. Hugh Shoemake, U. .S. Army, Korea, and Mrs. Hugh Shoemake and children of Cumming. REV. TRIBBLE RITES TODAY IN CHURCH HE LED 23 YEARS

Funeral services for the Rev. T. P. Tribble, Baptist minister in Georgia the past 40 years, will be held at 2 p. m. Wednesday in the Chattahoochee First Baptist Church where the Rev. Tribble was pastor for 23 years. Dr. Guy Owen, the Rev. G. W. Southard and the Rev. Major Williams will officiate. Burial will be made in Westview Cemetery. The Rev. Tribble died Monday at an Atlanta private hospital after a brief illness. Members of the Atlanta Baptist Ministers' Association (?) Bolton Lodge No. 416, F. and (?) Rev. T. P. Tribble Dies after 40 years' Ministerial Service (1952)

The Rev. T. P. Tribble, Baptist minister in Georgia more than 40 years and former pastor of the Chattahoochee First Baptist Church for 23 years, died Monday at a private hospital fter a short illness. Ordained in Atlanta, Feb. 7, 1910, the Rev. Mr. Tribble served as pastor of country and village churches from 1910 until 1923, when he came to Atlanta. While serving as pastor at the Chattahoochee church, he also was active in the Atlanta religious circles. He retired in 1946 because of failing health   Mr. Tribble served on the executive committee of the Atlanta Baptist Association and was listed in the guide, " Religious Leaders of America, 1941-42." He also was author of the book, "A Perfect Salvation", published in 1938. Born in Forsyth County, Mr. Tribble was a schoolteacher and superintendent of schools in Eatonton before entering the ministry. He received his A. B. degree from the University of Georgia, A. M. from Oglethorpe University and D. D. from Trinity College. He also attended Webster University The minister was active as a Mason and still held his church membership at the Chattahoochee church. Funeral services were held Wednesday, December 31st, at the First Baptist Church in Chattahoochee with the remains placed in state at 1 o'clock. Rev. Guy Owenm, Rev G. W. Southard, Rev. Major Williams officiating. Interment, Westview. Surviving are his wife; two daughters, Mrs. J. W. Edwards and Mrs. J. O. Meeler, both of Atlanta, and a son, W. L. Tribble, Jacksonville.

MRS. J. B. WALLACE PASSES (1951)

Mrs. Barney Wallace who was the former Isabelle Holbrook passed away at her home near Alpharetta Sunday February February 25th. She was 64 years of age. She was reared in Forsyth County and lived in Cumming for a good many years. Funeral service was held at Alpharetta Methodist Church, Monday February 26th at 2:30, burial in City cemetery. Survived by her husband, four daughters, Mrs. J. C. Beverly of Atlanta, Mrs. Everett Newton, Mrs. Joe Henderson and Mrs. Atwood Powell all of Alpharetta, also 2 sons Messrs Egbert and Olen Wallace of Alpharetta and six grandchildren.

Mr. C. O. Wheeler Dies At Age 75; Prominent Citizen of Cumming

Funeral Services were held Tuesday, September 29 at The Chapel for Mr. Claude Wheeler, a life long resident of Forsyth County who passed away Sunday night September 27, after a long illness. Mr. Wheeler has made his home here for over 30 years and was liked by everyone who knew him. At one time he was employed by Strickland & Wisdom, Ford dealer, Otwell Motor Company, Ford Dealer, also four years as Justice of Peace, Cumming District, and at the time of his illness he was bookkeeper for Ingram Funeral Home. He is survived by his wife, two sons, Messrs Alton and Joe Wheeler, three daughters, Mrs. Egbert Shadburn, Mrs. Glen Hardin, Mrs. B. R. Farr, eleven grandchildren and a host of other relatives. Funeral service for Dr. William T. Wynn, 79, retired GSCW professor who died Tuesday in a local hospital, will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday in the First Methodist Church here. Burial will be in the Milledgeville Cemetery. Dr. Wynn headed the English department at GSCW for nearly a quarter century.
