Aarons, Minnie

On the 29th day of July the death angel visited our home and took fromus our loving daughter and sister, Minnie Aarons. She was only sick twodays...Minnie bore her suffering with patience. She joined the Baptist churchat Friendship at an early age and lived a true Christina until death. Sheleaves a father, mother, and three sisters and a host of relatives and friendsto mourn her departure...

Her remains were laid to rest in Friendship cemetery, Revs. J.L. Wyattand J.M. Anderson conducting the funeral services...

Akins, Lou

In loving memory of our loving sister, Lou Akins, who departed this lifeApril 17, 1926. She was the daughter of Mrs. Julia Howard; wife of D.F. Akins.Born October 20, 1878, departed this life April 17, 1926, age 48 years, fivemonths, and 27 days old. she was the mother of nine children, six livingand three gone on before...

She joined the church at Cross Roads when quite young and remained amember of that church until death. The body was laid to rest at Cross Roadscemetery.

Allen, Forest

Forest, the little eleven-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. S.H. Allen diedat their home Saturday night; his little body was laid to rest in the cemeteryhere Sunday afternoon, after funeral services conducted by Rev. F.T. Wills.

The little boy was afflicted all his life and never walked and playedlike other little boys here, but we’re sure that he is now walking thestreets of gold...

Andrews, Tom

The Forsyth County News, April 13, 1922

Mr. Tom Andrews died at the home of his father on Route 4 Monday, andhis body was laid to rest at Coal Mountain with military honors Tuesdays,Revs. Thomas and Forrist conducting the services. He had been sick for manymonths and his death has been expected for some time. He is survived by hisparents, a number of other relatives and scores of friends to whom we extendsympathy.

In memory...Thomas Watson Andrews...Mr. Andrews was born June 11, 1895.At the age of 16 he gave his life to Christ...

When the call of duty came in 1917, he answered that call and gave hisservice willingly for his country’s cause. No braver soldier ever foughton the battle fields of France than Thomas Watson Andrews. It was while inservice that he was gassed with that deadly gas that made his lungs an easyprey for that disease which cost him his life on April 10, 1922.

It was with heavy and broken hearts that his beloved ones saw him interredin Coal Mountain cemetery . The funeral services were conducted by Rev. Forristand Rev. Thomas...

Anglin, J. C.

The Forsyth County News, February 3, 1927

Mr. J.C. Anglin died January 19 at the home of his daughter, Mrs. A.M.Bell, near Duluth. He was 87 years old. He served in the Confederate army;was wounded at Vicksburg. He was a successful farmer of Forsyth County. Heis survived by two sons, two daughters, several grandchildren, and a hostof friends. His remains were interred at Sharon on the 20th, funeral servicesconducted by Rev. J.W. Coffman. The bereaved ones have our heartfeltsympathy.

Bacon, Dr. Edmond M.

The Baptist Leader, August 29, 1895

Dr. Edmond M. Bacon died at his home in Forsyth County, Georgia withinhalf a mile of his birthplace, December 19, 1894, aged 60 years. He was broughtup on a farm in the early settlement of the county, with only such educationaladvantages as a newly settled country afforded. In early manhood he studiedmedicine. Graduating at the Southern Medical College, he entered upon hislife work of farming and practicing physic in the country, in both of whichhe was decidedly successful. He was united in marriage December 18, 1869,with Miss Laura A. Ellis of Cumming, whose gentle ministries at the householdaltar made her a model wife and mother. Eleven children, all living, andnine of whom are still with the family, were the offspring of this union.A Methodist from conviction and by inheritance, 18 years ago he united withthe church, since which time he lived a quiet, unobtrusive and Christianlife...In full possession of all his mental powers, the end suddenly came---hisdisease being hereditary heart affection.

Bagby, Mrs. W. T.

A tribute to Mrs. W.T. Bagby, who died at her home near Bethel February1, 1924, after a lingering illness of 12 months with cancer. The deceasedwas 75 years of age, and leaves a husband, three sons, and three daughtersto mourn her departure.

Her children are: Mrs. W.F. Orr; Messrs. F.F. and G.V. Bagby of ForsythCounty; and Mrs. C.M. Buice, Mrs. L.B. Benson and H.C. Bagby of Flowery Branch.Her sisters are: Mrs. J.T. Watson and Mrs. R.H. Thompson of Forsyth County,and Mrs. J.M. Rylee of Buford.

Funeral and interment was at Bethel Sunday February 3, conducted by Revs.Thompson and Warren.

She joined the Baptist church in early womanhood...

Thomas Bagley died at his home near Big Creek Post Office on last Tuesdayevening and was buried at Sharon Church on Wednesday, Rev. B.B. Sargentconducting the funeral services.

Uncle Tommie, as he was familiarly called, was 72 years old and had beena member of Sharon Church for a number of years. He was perhaps the oldestmember in the church. He raised a large family, all of whom survive him,with the exception of two or three. Among those living are Messrs. D.H. andCephus Bagley of Big Creek, and Mrs. James Gilbert of Texas...

Mr. Lester Banister, the twenty-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. C.M. Banisterof Route 7, died last Sunday morning and his remains were laid to rest inZion Hill cemetery Monday.

The death of this young man records the second death in Mr. Banister’sfamily in the course of one week. On Saturday night, a week preceding thedeath of the young man, a daughter of Mr. Banister breathed her last.

In loving memory of little V.D. Bell, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. T.M. Bell,who departed from this life July 18, 1920. Little V.D. was born in Hall CountyJuly 18, 1918; little V.D. had been sick most of her life; when she was eightmonths old she took the flu and then pneumonia fever, and after she got wellshe took stomach trouble which gave her a lot of trouble; when she was 18months old, she took the flu again, and when she got well she had enjoyedbetter health than ever. When warm weather came, she got stout and on July16, we went to see her grandmother Bell and stayed all night. V.D. seemedto be well and enjoying herself; on Saturday morning we went to Cross RoadsChurch; after that we went to the home of Mr. D.F. Akins, where she ate hersupper heartily and afterwards played herself off to sleep about 9 o’clock.At 10 o’clock she woke up sick and took cholera-infantum. She got worseand Sunday afternoon God said, “Little V.D. , you have sufferedenough...”

Her body was laid to rest at Cross Roads Church. Rev. G.W. Forest conductedthe funeral service...V.D. was the only child of the family.

She had been a great sufferer for some time and her death was notunexpected.

...Her soul has joined the angelic choir on the other side and is singingpraises to the God whom she served so faithfully during her short sojournof 18 years here on earth.

Her body was laid to rest in Cumming cemetery Tuesday afternoon in aconcourse of sorrowing relatives and friends, the funeral being conductedby Rev. J.W. Gober.

Mr. D.W. Boling of Midway, on Route 7, passed away at his home Wednesdaymorning after a brief illness with pneumonia.

Mr. Boling was a good citizen and a consecrated member of the Baptistchurch at Bethlehem. His death came as a surprise to everyone as he had beenin the best of health and was in Cumming one day last week.

He is survived by a number of children, a wife, and many relatives whowill mourn his loss.

Interment was at Friendship Thursday, the funeral being conducted bythe pastor, Rev. R.H. Thompson.

On Monday, December 12, death claimed Gordon, the loving son of Mr. andMrs. Boling of near Sheltonville, Georgia. He was sick about three weekswith fever. Gordon leaves a father, two sisters, and one brother...Gordonwas only 20 years old.

He professed a hope in Christ and joined the Baptist church in 1916.

The funeral was held at New Harmony Church, the service being conductedby Rev. Cochran.

Rome, Georgia. May 5.---Many Rome friends of G.M. Boyd, 78, who diedThursday at his home at Adairsville, attended the funeral there Saturdaymorning at 10:30 o’clock. Mr. Boyd was one of the most prominent businessmenin Gordon County, and formerly was in business in Rome. He was a staunchmember of the Methodist church.

Mr. Boyd is survived by three sons: Willis M., G.M., Jr., and __________.He was the father of Col. Carl Boyd, who died in France...Atlanta Journal.

Mr. Boyd was reared in this county, was a brother of Mr. W.E. Boyd, andhas scores of friends here who will regret to learn of his death.

...Joel Thaddeus Bramblett was born August 3, 1889 at Cumming, Georgia.At the age of 14, he united with the Friendship Baptist Church at that place.He was married to Miss Harriet Naomi Sams, September 30, 1909. He attendedthe Georgia Eclectic College of Medicine and Surgery and was graduated April11, 1911. He came to Oklahoma in 1918, located at Norman, removed to Amber,Oklahoma in 1919 and to Pocasset in 1922 and here it was that he was calledbeyond by a car accident, hurrying from Mineo where he had been to sign somelife insurance papers, to fill some hurried calls awaiting him at home. Hedied October 24, 1924 at the age of 35 years, two months, 2 days. He leavesa wife, two children, Edith and Willis, two sisters, Mrs. Nora Holbrook ofFlorida and Mrs. Nettie Heard of Cumming, Georgia, and four brothers, Dr.R.H. and Truman of Cumming, Georgia, Corbett of Norman, and Dr. Jim ofVerden...

A wave of sadness of the wide-spread variety was cast over Cumming andForsyth County when the word was passed from mouth to mouth that the icyhand of death was laid at the vitals of J. Marvin Buice, who was 36 yearsold, on Saturday night, October 30, about 9:30 o’clock.

Mr. Buice was well-known in this section of Georgia. He was the typeof man who numbered his friends by his acquaintances, for to know him wasto love him. Mr. Buice had lived practically all his life in the Sharon communityof Forsyth County and was known all over the state as the leader of the BuiceBrothers Quartet, also as an educator. He was principal of the Kennesaw HighSchool at the time of his death.

Impressive funeral services were held for Mr. Buice on Monday, November1 at Sharon Baptist Church, where hundreds of sorrowing relatives and friendsassembled to pay the last tribute of respect to one they had known and loved.The large profusion of flowers further attested the love and esteem in whichthe deceased was held. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Henry Warren,Rev. C.A. Vaughan, and Rev. Grady Gerrard. Ingram-Moore were in charge ofthe funeral services.

Mr. Buice was survived by his mother, Mrs. R.G. Buice, and the followingbrothers and sisters: George W. Buice, Clermont; R. Lee Buice, Duluth; Mrs.H.J. Mr. Castleberry was employed in the government service at Camp McClellannear Anniston, Alabama, when he contracted the Spanish influenza. It wasfirst thought that he only had a cold and last Sunday came to Dallas forthe purpose of carrying his family back to Anniston with him.

As soon as he arrived...he took to his bed and grew rapidly worse untilSunday morning when he died...

Rev. Thomas M. Elliott conducted the funeral ceremonies which were heldat the home of Mr. Griffin and the interment took place at the cemeteryhere.

He is survived by his wife, who was formerly Miss Maude Griffin of thisplace, and four small children.

Brother Jesse joined Sharon Church September 25, 1875, baptized by Rev.Fred Hawkins, Pastor of Sharon Church...His straight forward life and honestywon for him the place of County Treasurer of Forsyth County, which officehe held for 18 years, serving the county to the very best of his ability.

At the age of 21, he joined the army, was a member of Co. I, 43rd &A. Regt., went into camp above Marietta at Big Shanty. Organized the 43rdGa. Capt. Skid Harris elected Colonel Hiram P. Bell, Lt. Col. and H.C. Kellogg,Major; was with the Regt. all through the war---was with them through Georgia,Tennessee, Kentucky, Mississippi, and back through these states. At BattleofResaca, Georgia, his brother, Lewis L. Clement, was killed and on down toAtlanta, Georgia, he lost his left foot, shot off above the ankle, and theright foot almost severed by the same ball. Was taken prisoner on the battlefieldand carried back to Camp Dougla(t?), where he was held a prisoner until theend of the war the next spring, his parents and family mourning him as dead.His home coming was like one risen from the dead...

A number of boys who went overseas from this county attended the funeralin uniform and paid their last tribute of respect to their departedcomrade.

While we regret the death of this young man, who sacrificed his lifefor his country, we rejoice in the fact that his body is laid beneath theshade of the trees around his old home where his parents and loved ones canmeet and strew flowers of love and friendship o’er his last restingplace.

The daughter of a preacher, she married a preacher and boretwo preacher sons. As a circuit rider’s wife crossing the Blue Ridgein a gray buggy drawn by an old gray mule, she sat by her husband’sside holding a six-weeks-old baby in her lap. Snow covered the ground. Manyweekends she stayed alone with her babies from Thursday to Tuesday whileher husband attended to his 14 appointments,

Her health had failed for the last five years, but after November shewas unconscious most of the time, suffering very much but all the time sherepeated the scriptures...

And now though the body lies in West Hill cemetery by that of her husband,her soul is aloft and with the seraphs she herself is singing.---MadisonMadisonian, July 22, 1921.

Ellis, Mrs. G.W.

On Monday morning at her home on Route 2, about two miles from Jefferson,occurred the death of Mrs. G.W. Ellis. She had been in ill health for severalyears, but her death came suddenly from heart failure caused from complicationof troubles.

Mrs. Ellis was the daughter of the late Col. Bishop, one of the mostprominent citizens of Dawson County. She was about 50 years of age, was welleducated, refined, and a woman of intellectual attainments...

She leaves a husband, four sons, the eldest of whom is a member of the1917 graduating class of Martin Institute. Also a brother, Mr. H.C. Bishopof Gainesville, and three sisters, Mrs. C.L. Bryson of Jefferson, Mrs. Webbof Atlanta, and Miss Leila Bishop, a teacher in the Maysville High School.

The remains of Mrs. Ellis were laid to rest in Woodbine cemetery on Tuesdaymorning.---Jackson Herald

Mrs. Ellis was a former resident of this county and has many friendshere who will regret to learn of her death.

In memoriam. On the morning of April 1, 1919, my dear husband answeredthe call to come up higher. Great indeed is the mystery of life and death.Lemey died of pneumonia. His suffering was great indeed but his durationwas only a few days. He was 40 years, 3 months, and 24 days old. His remainswere laid to rest in Ophir cemetery, funeral services being conducted byRev. Stone. He joined the Baptist church when quite young and lived a consistentand useful member until his death. It is sad to think of my dear husbandbeing with me and my five children no more on earth but it makes our heartsrejoice to know if we live as we should we can be with dear Lemey in a betterworld where there will be no sad parting but all will be happiness throughouteternity...
