WHITMIRE: There is much confusion about the name of Mary Whitmire. Her marriage license lists her as Mary M. Whitmire. The 1850 Forsyth County census lists her as M M Pettyjohn. She is Mary in the 1860 Forsyth County census, Meary A. in the 1870 Forsyth County census, and Mary M. in the 1880 Forsyth County census. Her tombstone at Crossplains Baptish Church on McGinnis Ferry Road in Forsyth County, lists her as Mariah H. Pettyjohn.
