This indenture made this tenth day of August in the year of our Lord, eighteen hundred fifty four between James A. H. Brownlow of the county & State aforesaid of the one part and Obediah Barker of the same place of the other part.

Witnesseth, that the said James A. H. Brownlow hath this day made and delivered to the said Obediah Barker, his certain pecuniary note, Subscribed with his hand and seal and bearing even date with these presents. Whereby the said James A. H. Brownlow hath promised to pay the said Obediah Barker, or bearer, eighty Seven dollars and seventy cents, on or before the twenty fifth day of December eighteen hundred & fifty five for value received. Now for and in consideration of the Sum of five dollars by the said Obediah Barker to the said James A. H. Brownlow in hand paid at & before the Sealing and delivery of these presents the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged as well as for the better securing the payment of the aforesaid pecuniary note, the said James A. H. Brownlow hath granted bargained and Sold & doth by these presents grant bargain and sell unto the said Obediah Barker his heirs and assigns all that tract or parcel of land situated lying and being in the county aforesaid - Known as lot number two hundred & fifty four, in the fourteenth district of the first section of originally Cherokee, now Forsyth County, agreeable to the original survey, containing forty acres more or less with all the rights members & appurtenances to the said lot of land anywise appertaining or belonging. To have and to hold Said bargained promises to the said Obediah Barker, his heirs and assigns to his and their own proper use benefit and behoof forever. And the said James A. H. Brownlow for himself his heirs executors and Administrators the said bargained promises unto the said Obediah Barker will warrant and forever defend against the claim of himself and his heirs and against the claims of all other persons whatever. Provided that nevertheless that if the said James A. H. Brownlow, his heirs Executors and administrators shall will and truly pay or cause to be unto the said Obediah Barker his heirs and assigns the aforementioned sum of Eighty Seven dollars and Seventy cents on the day and time mentioned and appointed for the payment thereof in said pecuniary note mentioned according to the owner of said note there and from thence forth as will these presents indenture & the right to the property conveyed as the said pecuniary note, Shall cease determine and be void to all intents and purposes.
