Wiggins Funeral Set For Friday Afternoon

Mrs. George A. Wiggins, 88, member of a prominent Floyd County family of the Calhoun Road, died Wednesday at 6:50 p.m. in a Rome hospital, following an illness of five months. Her condition became serious five weeks ago.
Mrs. Wiggins was born in Floyd County Jan. 17, 1871, daughter of the late Henry Ivey and Amanda Lovell Fincher. She was married to George A. Wiggins in 1890 and was preceded in death by him in August, 1936, and was also preceded in death by a daughter, Mrs. P. J. Dempsey, in Oct. 1936. Mrs. Wiggins was a member of the Celanese Methodist Church where she was the oldest active member.
Survivors include five daughters, Misses Emma, Minnie, Mary and Ruth Wiggins and Mrs. Ida Bryan, all of Rome; five sons, G. W., H. I., J. R., R. W. and J. F. Wiggins, all of Rome; 14 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 4 p.m. in the Celanese Methodist Church with the pastor, the Rev. Larry Bauman, officiating. Interment will follow in the family lot of the Oaknoll cemetery.
The following will serve as pallbearers and are requested to meet at the residence at 3:15 p.m. Friday: Frank Rogers, L. L. Ringer, Robert Watters, Bert Dempsey Jr., Roy Anderson and Lee Taylor.
The body will be carried to the residence today at 5 p.m. to lie in state until the funeral hour.
