Among the passengers who came in on the Louisville & Nashville train night before last were Mr. W.L. Whiteley, a prominent citizen of Rome, Ga., and his
wife, on a visit to relatives in this city. Arriving at the depot, they were met by their nephew, Mr. C.D.Bayne, with whom they entered a carriage and were
driven to the latter's residence. Just as Mr. Whitely emerged from the vehicle he complained of stiffness of his limbs and on entering the house, was
stricken with paralysis, from the effects of which he died yesterday morning at 6 o'clock. This page was last updated Thursday, 15-Aug-2013 16:05:46 MDT

Sudden Death
Mr. Whiteley was widely and favorably known in this section of the country, was a devoted husband and father and a consistent member of the Methodist
Church. He leaves a sorrowing wife and seven to morn his loss. His family arrived last night. The remains were forwarded to Rome for interment by morning
train.
(In working on my Bayne family I came across a note on William L. Whiteley of Rome Ga. He and his wife had come to Montgomery, Alabama to visit her Family. She was a Day before marriage. Her Father & Mother had lived and died in Montgomery,Co. Ala. Col W.L. Whiteley with wife had come by train to Montgomery. As He stepped down from the cab he was struck down by a stroke and was taken into the home of Charles David Bayne, Nephew. There he died.
C.D.Bayne's mother was Hette Adeline Day, who married Samuel Pool Bayne in Russell Co. Ala. I hope this may be some aid to the Whiteley family for it has been posted that he died at some other place.
Regards, David L. Bayne
