SMILEY WALLACE, ROME SALESMAN, DIES AT HOSPITAL

Smiley C. Wallace, 40 son of John W. Wallace, prominent Rome merchant, passed away at a local hospital Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock, following an operation for acute appendicitis.
Mr. Wallace was for many years connected with the Simpson Grocery company in Rome, but had been employed as salesman by the Iten Biscuit Company of Chattanooga recently. He was a member of the American Legion and was a constant worker in that organization. News of his death cast a cloud of gloom over the entire city.
He is survived by his widow, two children, Edith and Virginia, his father, John W. Wallace, and three brothers, Clarence of Gadsden, Norman and Rosser, of Rome. \par Exact funeral arrangements will be announced later by the Emmett Cole funeral home, but it is likely that the services will be held Friday at the South Broad Methodist church with Rev. T. E. Crutcher officiating.
Interment will be in Myrtle Hill cemetery.
