John W. Wallace, Retired Merchant, Succumbs Sunday
John Wiley Wallace, 86, retired merchant of the Desoto Park community, died at his residence at 2:15 p.m Sunday following an extended illness.
He was born in Cleaborn County, Ala., March 15, 1865, but had resided in Floyd County since the age of 5. He had been in the grocery business for 50 years prior to his retirement a few years ago. Mr. Wallace had been a member of the Vann's Valley Methodist Church for 65 years.
He was preceded in death by four sons and one daughter. Surviving are the widow, the former Miss Martha Ola Blosier; one son, Norman Wallace, Rome. Six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. today at Jennings chapel with the Rev. S. H. Pendley and the Rev. J. C. Patty officiating.
Intement was in East View Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Fred and Walt Reid, Bernard Wallace, Milton Jones, J. G. Abell and B. B. Bobo. Honorary pallbearers were Rual Hardin, Wyatt and Paul Foster, Paul Weems, Don Powers, Charlie Gibbons, Lamar Montgomery and C. H. Irvin.
