Mrs. Martha Helms Stevens, 79, well-known resident who had lived in Rome and Floyd County for the past 60 years, died this morning (May 12, 1939) at 9 o'clock at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. J. H. Kilgo, 509 West Eleventh Street. She had been ill since suffering a stroke a month ago.

Funeral services will be held Sunday afterrnoon at 3 o'clock at the First Baptist church. Dr. Bunyan Stephens will officiate, assisted by the Rev. H. E. Wright. Interment will be in the family lot in the New Armuchee cemetery.

Mrs. Stevens was born in Bartow County on August 26, 1859, daughter of W. T. and Rebecca Helms. In April, 1883, she was married to Robert Green Stevens, who preceded her in death on May 19, 1911. Mrs. Stevens was a devoted Christian and a member of the First Baptist Church.

Surviving her are four sons, Carl, Luther, Dewey and Golden Stevens, all of Rome; three stepsons, John and Dan Stevens of Rome; Robert Stevens, of Wichita, Texas; four daughters, Mrs. J. H. Kilgo, Mrs. W. E. Davis, Miss Pearl Stevens all of Rome; Mrs. J. L. Gossett of Columbus; 18 grandchildren, one great grandchild and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will include R. S. Kennard, Joe Outler, Bob McKenzie, Paul Scoggins, R. B. Cormany, Raymond Warren, S. A. Marshall, Sr., and John Williamson. They are asked to meet at the Emmett Cole Funeral Home Sunday at 2:15 p.m.
