Oscar Smith

Funeral services for Oscar Smith were at 2 p.m. today at Cave Spring Baptist Church. The Rev. James Guy and the Rev. Glenn Puckett officiated. Interment was in Forney, ALA. Mr. Smith, 101, of 18 Park St., Cave Spring, died Tuesday evening at a Rome health-care center. He was born in Cherokee County, Ala., March 15, 1888, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Tom Smith. He had been a longtime resident of Floyd County, where he was a member of the Cave Spring Baptist Church and was a retired farmer. He was preceded in death by his wife, Omie Alexander Smith in 1936. Survivors include a daughter, three sons, Earl Smith, Lindale, Marvin Smith, Rome, and Horace Smith, Centre, Ala.; 14 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. Talley Brothers Funeral Home of Rome was in charge of the arrangements.
