Mr. Satcher

Mr. Alfred H. Satcher, age 82, of Piney Woods Road, Taylorsville, GA, died Saturday, September 3, 2005, at his residence.
Mr. Satcher was born in Bartow County, GA, on January 9, 1923, the son of the late Jesse H. Satcher, Sr. and Clara Mae Adams Satcher. He had lived in the Doraville, GA area for a number of years before returning to his childhood home. Prior to retirement in 1978, Mr. Satcher had been associated with Southern Bell for a number of years. He was a member of the New Hope Baptist Church. Mr. Satcher was a veteran of World War II, having served in the United States Army. He was a member of the American Legion, a member and Past Master of the John W. Akin Masonic Lodge #537 F&AM of Taylorsville, the Tucker Shrine Club where he was Captain of the Motorcycle Corps and was a member of the Yaarah Shrine Temple of Atlanta. Following retirement, Mr. Satcher enjoyed working his farm, riding horses and visiting with friends. He also loved to travel, especially to Florida. Mr. Satcher was married on July 2, 1949 to Betty Jo Taylor Satcher, and she preceded him in death on September 11, 2003. Also preceding him in death were his parents and a brother, J. E. Satcher.
Mr. Satcher is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Sandy and Tom Kelly of Taylorsville, a granddaughter, Jeanne Skiles and her husband, Craig, of Charleston, SC, two grandchildren, Alex Skiles and Morgan Skiles, four brothers, Harold Satcher of Aragon, GA, Hollis Satcher of Rome, Hoyt Satcher and Jesse Satcher, Jr., both of Taylorsville; one sister, Betty Jackson of Taylorsville. A host of nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for Mr. Satcher will be held on Tuesday morning at 11 am. in the Hertigage chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home with Rev. Drew Brown officiating.
Interment will follow in the Floyd Memory Gradens with the Shanklin-Attaway Post 5 of the American Legion Guard in charge of military graveside rites.
Mr. Satcher will lie in state in the Hertitage Chapel of the Jenniings Funeral Home where the family will receive friends Monday evening from 5 until 7 p.m.
Members of the John W. Akin Masonic Lodge #537 F&AM will serve as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Regency Hospice, 20 Fox Chase SE, Cartersville, GA 30120, or to the Shriner's Hosptial, c/o Yaarab Temple, 400 Ponce De Leon Avenue, Atlanta, GA, 30308.
